새로운 에너지물질 분자의 설계기술 동향

  • 냉전의 또 하나의 부산물은 우주경쟁인데, 인공위성 등 발사체의 추진기관은 거의 예외 없이 액체연료를 사용하는 액체추진로켓이고, 이것의 연료가 되는 액체산소, 액체수소 등은 발사체에 저장된 상태로 보관 할 수 없다는 단점 때문에 거의 군사용으로 적용되고 있지 않다. 지금은 SATURN-V와 같은 거대한 액체 추진 로켓을 대신해서 부분적으로 재활용이 가능한 우주왕복선이 사용되고 있는데, 여기에는 처음 이륙단계 대부분의 추력을 고체추진제에 의존하고 있기 때문에 이들의 성능 향상을 위한 좀 더 강역하고, 안전성을 높일 수 있는 에너지 물질에 대한 요구가 증대되고 있는 실정이다.

  • A Numerical Simulation which uses preconditioning algorithm to examine unsteady combustion processes for the AP/HTPB propellant with a converging-diverging nozzle has been compared with experimental data for solid rocket motor. To analysis reacting flow of solid rocket motor, unsteady pressure, temperature contour was simulated by grid moving of propellant.

  • 130mm D.B. 추진기관의 고온 시험에서 나타난 극심한 이상 연소 현상을 해결하기 위해 미세한 고체 입자들을 연소 가스에 분산시켜 불안정 연소를 억제하는 particulate damping 효과를 연구하였다. 고체 입자로서 효과적인 것으로 알려진 $K_2$$SO_4$. ZrC, Graphite를 CTPB, HTPB 고분자 물질에 충진시켜 epoxide, isocyanate 반응기와 가교 반응을 일으킴으로써 고무상의 탄성체 성질을 갖게 하는 $K_2$$SO_4$/CTPB, ZrC/Graphite/HTPB, ZrC/Graphite/AP/HTPB, ZrC/AP/HTPB 조성의 연소 안정제를 개발하였다. 이 연소 안정제는 외경 17mm, 길이 1000mm의 안정봉 형태로 제작하여 모타의 중심 cavity에 조립한 후 지상 연소 시험을 통하여 성능을 확인하였다. 시험 결과, 조성에 AP를 포함시켜 연소 안정제에 일정한 연소 속도를 부여하여 추진제 grain 연소 동안 고체 입자를 연소 가스에 분산되게 설계한 ZrC/Graphite/AP/HTPB, ZrC/AP/HTPB 조성의 연소 안정제가 불안정 연소 억제에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.

  • 고체추진제(solid propellant)는 연료와 산화제가 혼합/결합되어 있어 폭발적인 연소반응을 통하여 많은 에너지를 빠른 시간에 방출한다. 많은 에너지가 급격히 변환되는 과정에서 소량의 에너지가 음향에너지(acoustic energy)로 변환되는 것은 피할 수 없다. 이와 같이 원하지 않는 에너지의 변환이 어느 정도 이상을 넘을 때, 연소 불안정(combustion instability) 현상이 발생했다고 한다. 상당히 많은 로켓 모타들이 연소불안정현상으로 인하여 개발기간의 지연과 설계변경 등으로 경제적 손실을 야기하고 있다.   • Auto ignition of hybrid rocket using $N_2O$ catalytic decomposition was studied in the present study. The hybrid rocket consists of catalytic igniter, solid fuel, combustor, and nozzle. The Ru/$Al_2O_3$ catalyst for $N_2O$ decomposition was synthesized by an impregnation method, and $N_2O$ conversion as reaction temperatures was measured. The temperature change of the catalytic ignitor was measured at the operating condition, and the possibility for the auto ignition of hybrid rocket was validated.

  • Combustion Characteristic with initial port-diameter of fuel was studied in hybrid propulsion system using cylindrical single port-grain. In order to understand a variation of combustion characteristic with initial port-diameter, experimental studies were performed with the GOX and $GN_2O$ as oxidizer, and PE as fuel. As results, burning rate decreased with increase of initial port-diameter of fuel. And the variation of burning rate with using $GN_2O$ is smaller than using GOX.

  • Burning rate of a propellent is an essential factor when designing a propulsion system. In order to come up with burning rate, first we need to design and build propellent grain to get neutral pressure curve. Then check the pressure with ground test and calculate the burning rate using burning rate equation. This burning rate is then compared to the burning rate of a propellent which was resulted from making a standardized specimen and combusting it using a strand burner. An accurate burning rate is calculated after comparing those two burning rates. For this study, compact propulsion system was designed, produced, tested and analyzed in order to get burning rates, an essential factor in propulsion system design, in an effective way.

  • In this research, the modeling of erosive burning and analysis of effective parameters were carried out for the application of fluid-structure integration analysis. The manufacture, test, and analysis of erosive burning motors were carried out to estimate the erosive burning applying Lenoir & Robillard model considering effective parameters. The erosive burning phenomenon was detected from experimental results. Erosive burning model and its effective parameters were evaluated and analyzed considering existence of aluminum in propellant, relationship among erosive burning coefficients according to characteristic length, effect of grain initial temperature. The erosive burning model was applied to the fluid-structure integration analysis, and the estimated results were close to the experimental results.

  • Nozzleless booster is one of the applicable components for integral rocket ramjet (IRR). In order to predict nozzleless solid booster performance, the simplified theoretical analysis was applied for L/D=5, 6, 7, 9, 11, and 13. Al-HTPB and Zr-HTPB propellant with a high metal content were used to increase the hardness because of the combustion gas flow effect. It was found that the trends between the simplified theoretical analysis and experiments were similar.

  • In this study, basic research on the thrust control by controling oxidizer mass flow rate of a $GO_2$/PE hybrid rocket is presented. For this purpose, hybrid rocket system including oxidizer flow control system and data acquisition system was developed. To control oxidizer mass flow rate, we used needle valve with stepping motor which was controled by LabVIEW program. During the fundamental experiments, this system managed to follow the pre-programmed (20 N - 10 N - 20 N - 0 N) thrust level.
