The National Museum of Korea is a nation's representative museum library that provides collection development, organizes, and utilize museum collections. Considering the limited budget, staffing, and users' awareness of the museum libraries in general, the role of the National Museum of Korea is vital. The purpose of this study is to establish the identity and development plan of the National Museum of Korea library as a specialized library. For this purpose, the current states of the National Museum of Korea library, preliminary studies, domestic and overseas case studies, and user & expert interviews were conducted. As a result of the study, the study suggested future directions to secure the professional identity of library, and development plans for collection, service, and human resources by museum library, and also to increase the role of library in museum and to improve users' awareness.

주: 고문서는 그 의미가 대체로 문자로써 표현되어 있는 것이요, 동시에 이를 발급한 여자는 아울러 이를 받을 대상인 수자, 즉 주객과 대상사이에 어떤 작용을 미치는 요건이 구비되어 있는 갑오경장 이전의 문서를 지칭한다. 고문서는 사학연구에 있어서 중요한 위치를 점유하고 있는데, 그 자체가 사료, 내지는 법률적인 의미에서 가치가 높이 평가되고 있기 때문이다. 우리나라에 있어서 고문서의 분포상황을 보면 대체로 서울대학교 부속도서관에 60,000매, 국립중앙도서관에 13,000매, 연세대학교 도서관에 15,000매, 고려대학교 도서관에 10,000매, 영남대학교 도서관에 5,000매, 장서각에 건기 1,000점이 수장되어 있다. 이러한 고문서의 충분한 연구가 수반되어 활용되어야 함은 물론이다. 그러나 귀중한 사료로서의 고문서에 대한 정리가 아직도 이루어지고 있지 못하다. 더우기 도서관에 있어서 고문서의 분류표, 내지는 기술목록법에 관한 기준조차도 설정되어 있지 못하다. 우리나라 도서관에 있어서 고문서의 정리, 말하자면 부류, 목록을 위한 선행과제로써 고문서의 용어에 대한 간략한 해설을 소개코자 하는 것이다.

This study analyzed academic information seeking behavior, focusing on university students, the main users of the university library, to derive considerations for the development and improvement of the subject guide of the university library. As a result of the analysis, university students highly evaluated their subjective information seeking ability, but it was found that it was difficult to set specific search terms. The purpose of using academic information is specific, and it has been shown that there is a tendency to perform all information search activities in one database. In addition, when selecting information resources, reliability, suitability, and recency are primarily taken into consideration. Awareness of university libraries and subject guides was generally low, but their reliability was found to be high. Based on this, it is necessary to consider the classification of information sources according to specific information seeking purposes, the composition of information resources, explanatory element technology related to information resource selection criteria, comprehensive database, topic keyword recommendation, library marketing, and close cooperation with internal institutions.

This study empirically analyzed how users and librarians perceive the roles and functions of the future public library through a survey and suggested what should be considered in establishing the future direction of the development of future library. As a result of the analysis, both librarians and users aware that contents were the most important aspect in the operation of future public libraries. In addition, users perceive the importance of information services higher than librarians, which shows that future public libraries require to develop and offer various information services. In contrast, the adoption of the latest information technology showed relatively low awareness of its importance in future public libraries. Therefore, the use of content and the provision of various channels and tools to satisfy information needs were perceived as more important than the adoption of information technologies.

The study aims to derive major factors from the results of needs analysis to develop the reference service model and guidelines at the national level. The literature review and case study enabled investigation of the considerations to develop the reference service model and guidelines. The Needs Analysis revealed librarians' and users' needs about the reference service. The major factors and implications derived from the analysis suggest the directions of the National-level reference service model and guidelines development process. This study has significance because it presented the implications and the development process of the reference service model and guidelines for domestic libraries, and directly contributed to the development of the reference service model and guidelines for the National Library of Korea.

Public library users' perception of librarians can be an important aspect in improving the public library uses and the quality of informn services. Thus it is necessary to identify what factors affect users' perceptions of librarians. This research empirically investigated users' general perceptions of librarians and the factors affecting them through a survey. As a result, it was found that the use of library collections, library facilities, and participation in club activities through the library affect the formation of a positive perception of librarians. In addition, the roles of the librarian are expanding from informational activities to supporting social activities. In contrast, the factors of direct interaction with the librarian, including participation in public library programs, circulating library collections, and communication with librarian, do not have a significant effect on the formation of the perception of librarian. Thus librarians need to consider library users more substantially and to support them in various ways.

Copyright is a legal criterion for determining the scope and method of digital library service. Works with expired protection periods correspond to the public domain and can be freely used by anyone. For this reason, it is a priority consideration in digital library construction and services. The purpose of this study is to examine how actively libraries are using expired protected works for digital library services. To this end, the relevant provisions of the Copyright Act applied to the construction and service of digital libraries were first summarized, and the meaning of the copyright protection period was theoretically examined. The current status of online services for expired works by the National Library of Korea was examined, focusing on the works of three Japanese colonial era writers, Kim Yoo-jung, Lee Hyo-seok, and Chae Man-sik, to check the specific service status of expired works. It reveals that the National Library of Korea is not fully utilizing the scope of the law, and that this situation is linked to the rights of other authors included in the book. Based on these results, it suggests that there is a need to change the service unit to focus on copyrighted works and to use authority records to systematize the management of authors' death years.
