  • Application layer multicast(ALM) has been developed as an alternative to support the multi-receiver applications due to the slow deployment of IP multicast. Unlike routers in IP multicast, end systems participating in a ALM session are not optimized for relaying data and have various processing and network capacity. Therefore, with the increased role of end systems, the delay incurred at the end systems occupy large portion of the end-to-end delay. In this paper, we model the end system delay of ALM sessions and analyze its impact on the performance of the existing ALM schemes. Furthermore, we propose an enhanced scheme, based on the existing mesh-based scheme, which reflects the end system delay We also evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme by simulation and show that it reduces the end-to-end delay compared with the existing scheme.

  • Theoretical foundation and algorithms are presented of a new surface modeling and pre-processing system for the three-dimensional structures. The modeling method is based on the boundary representation scheme and composed of two hierarchical model structures: curve-network and surface models. The concept of modeling curve as a union of links is introduced to facilitate surface modeling via various transfinite mapping techniques or Coons Patches. Efficiency and novel aspects of the present method are discussed. Finite element mesh genceration and application procedures will be reported in a later paper.

  • Modern networks consisting of various heterogeneous equipment are often installed in a distributed manner. Thus the NETCONF standard was established to manage networks centrally and efficiently. In this paper, we present a method that integrates each NETCONF layer into a single system based on the results of previous studies. In the RPC Layer, an asynchronous communication channel and parallel processes are possible using multi-threading. In the Operation Layer, operational efficiency is increased by using a data group with dependencies between the equipment configuration data and by improving the data structure, enabling efficiently processing of XML queries even with multiple managers. The data modeling techniques and grouping methods in the Content Layer are presented in detail for interoperability between the Operation Layer and the Content Layer. Finally, the GUI program was implemented and its implementation is reported. We performed an experiment comparing the improved NETCONF with the standard NETCONF to measure factors, such as query processing ratio, query processing speed, and CPU utilization. The improved NETCONF demonstrated excellent query processing ratio and query processing speed, whereas the standard NETCONF had excellent CPU utilization.

  • Substructuring-based hierarchical approach for design analysis and optimization of structural frames is presented in this study. The conceptual framework of this method is in the hierarchical modeling for design processes as well as structural systems and the methodology combining substructuring analysis and multilevel optimization. Mathematical models for analysis and synthesis are established on the common basis of substructuring systems. Modularized behavioral analysis, design sensitivity analysis and optimization are linked and integrated on the mathematical and structural basis of substructuring. Substructures are coordinated with the active constraints for system level and the weight ratio criteria. Numerical examples for test frames show the validity and effectiveness of the present approach.

  • In this paper we proposed a hierarchical ASM for real-time tracking of non-rigid objects. For tracking an object we used ASM for estimating object contour possibly with occlusion. Moreover, to reduce the processing time we used hierarchical approach for real-time tacking. In the next frame we estimated the initial feature point by using Kalman filter. We also added block matching algorithm for increasing accuracy of the estimation. The proposed hierarchical, prediction-based approach was proven to out perform the exiting non-hierarchical, non-prediction methods.

  • The SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) documents are represented as logical structure information, spatial layout structure information, temporal synchronization structure information and hyperlink structure information, according as the structural characteristics of SMIL documents based on XML. This paper proposes the effective modeling and query method for the multi -structure information of inherent SMIL documents. In particular, we present the object-oriented modeling by using UML class diagram in order to represent the objects classes for the structured information of SMIL documents, and the hierarchical structure and the relationships for the objects classes. In addition, the objects classes definition is specified in compliance with SQL3 for database standard language. We also propose the access method and the query representation for hierarchical structure in order to retrieve efficiently the structural objects of SMIL documents.

  • A method of automatic 3D tunnel modeling is proposed. The proposed method used the parametric representation of geometry and a hierarchical and relational data structure. These two bases provide the generalization and extension for 3D tunnel modeling. Especially, these two fundamentals ion the basis iota representing the characteristics of the tunnel structure for analysis. The constant-curvature characteristic is exploited to generate 3D mesh on the tunnel surface. This is attributed to the advantage that any 2D automatic mesh generation algorithm can be applied to 3D mesh modeling.
