  • The critical micelle concentrations(CMC$^*$) of the mixed surfactant systems of Sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) with Tetraethylene glycol monododecyl ether(TGME) in the aqueous solutions of NaCl at $25^{\circ}C$ were determined as a function of the overall mole fraction of $SDS(\alpha1)$ by the use of surface tension method. Various thermodynamic parameters for the micellization of SDS/TGME mixed surfactant systems were calculated and analyzed by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micelle model, based on the pseudo-phase separation model.

  • Recently, the composite materials have been researched actively by many researchers because of its useful properties. Especially, an interface crack on the dissimilar material exposes the behavior of the mixed mode crack even though under only the tension stress. In the previous papers, crack energy density(CED) was shown as the crack behavior evaluation parameter which can be expressed consistently from the onset until a final fracture. In a present paper, the basic properties of CED on the interface crack are examined because the results by CED at the homogeneous material above are also expected to be held at the dissimilar material. And we proposed that the contribution of each mode of CED can be separated and be evaluated. Furthermore, the total CED and contribution of each mode are evaluated by domain integral through a finite element analysis at the elastic crack model and the basic examination are carried out.

  • Rhamnolipids are recognized as eco-friendly biosurfactants and produced by the bio-process employing bacteria. Pseudomons aeruginosa is well-known to produce rhamnolipids in high yield during fermentation process. Rhamnose and 𝛽-hydroxylated fatty acid are main chemicals for rhamnolipids, which are produced in the form of congener mixtures. In this paper, the synthetic mechanism of rhamnolipids within bacteria cells was presented in part and foam control technologies were qualitatively described. Foam control during fermentation process was important to regulate a continuous process. During last decade, the technologies are developed enough to challenge to a commercial-scale production. In particular, rhamnolipids will be more valuable if these can be applicable to value-added chemicals, such as medicines.

  • In this study, damage evaluation of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites was investigated with acoustic emission method. Specimens of 1.7mm thickness laminate were made from PET and 7 layers o171ass fabrics. Notch and impact loading were added to the specimen and normal tensile test and tensile test with the dead load were carried out. AE signal was measured as the functions of notch ratio to the width0 and impact energy in order to find out the correlation between fracture mode and AE parameters. The result has shown that low amplitude of AE signal was due to the microcrack of matrix and its growth, whereas the amplitude in the mid range was the response to the delamination and interfacial separation. In the range of high amplitude above 90dB. the fracture of glass fabric was found. Tensile strength decreased with increasing notch ratio to the width and impact energy because of tile effect or delamination, the cracking of matrix and stress concentration. In proportion to the size of damaged area. AE signal showed its wider range of frequency and energy as well as increased number of hits.

  • In this study, the optimum analytical conditions for determination of distribution of propylene oxide in a nonionic surfactant and separation of fatty alcohols were investigated by Reversed Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography. To analyse the distribution of propylene oxide (PO) and carbon chain length of a fatty alcohol, we derivatized samples for the purpose of using a UV detector. Also, we studied the influences of columns and mobile phase composition to obtain the optimum separation conditions. In our experiment, Waters Symmetry $C_8(3.9{\times}150mm)$ column was used. And the optimum condition were obtained by gradient elution with methanol and water as the mobile phase. In the plot of log k' vs composition of water in the binary phase, the linerality was very good. We ploted the calibration curve to conform the quality of fatty alcohol, a good linerality was obtained.

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widespread soil contaminants and major environmental concerns. PAHs have extremely low water solubility and are strongly sorbed to soil. A potential technology for remediation of PAHcontaminated soils is a soil washing with surfactant solutions. While the use of surfactants significantly enhances the performance of soil remediation, operation costs are increased. Selective adsorption of PAHs by activated carbons is proposed to reuse the surfactants in the soil-washing process. The adsorption isotherms of pure chemicals (Triton X-100 and phenanthrene) onto three granular activated carbons were obtained. The selective adsorption of phenanthrene in mixed solution was examined at various concentrations of phenanthrene and Triton X-100. The selectivity results were discussed with pore size distribution of activated carbons and molecular sizes of phenanthrene and the Triton X-100 monomer. The selectivity for phenanthrene was much larger than 1 regardless of the particle size of activated carbons. The selective adsorption using activated carbons with proper pore size distribution would greatly reduce the material cost for the soil washing process by the reuse of the surfactants.

  • In this work, the electroplating of copper was introduced on PAN-based carbon fibers for the enhancement of mechanical interfacial strength of carbon fibers-reinforced composites. The surface properties of carbon fibers were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and contact angle measurements. Its mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied by interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$). From the results, it was found that the mechanical interfacial properties of Cu-plated carbon fibers-reinforced composites (Cu-CFRPs) enhanced with increasing the Cu plating time, Cu content and COOH group up to Cu-CFRP-30. However, the mechanical interfacial properties of the Cu-CFRPs decreased dramatically in the excessively Cu-plated CFRPs sample. In conclusion, the presence of Cu particles on carbon fiber surfaces can be a key factor to determine the mechanical interfacial properties of the Cu-CFRPs, but the excessive Cu content can lead the failure due to the interfacial separation between fibers and matrices in this system.

  • Debonding behavior of symmetric tilt bicrystal interfaces with <100> misorientation axis is investigated through molecular dynamics simulations. FCC single crystal copper is considered in each grain and the model is idealized as a grain boundary under mechanical loading. Embedded-Atom Method potential is chosen to calculate the interatomic forces between atoms. Constrained tensile deformations are applied to a variety of misorientation angles in order to estimate the effect of grain boundary angle on local peak stress. A new parameter of symmetric grain-boundary structure is introduced and refines the correlation between grain boundary angle and local peak stress.

  • Solubilization of bovine serum albumin(BSA) is performed using a reverse micellar system consisting of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate(AOT). Of particular, effects of pH, salt concentration and its type on the solubilization are investigated by means of the phase-transfer method. One of significant findings in our study is that the protein is to a large extent aggregated in the interface between organic and aqueous phases at lower pH and small salt concentration. In this presentation, the optimal extraction process conditions for BSA, which is bulky, are proposed.

  • Temperature and pH conditions were studied for an effective biosurfactant production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa YPJ-80. Efficient methods of biosurfactant separation were also investigated. pH-uncontrolled experiments at 35$^{\circ}C$ and an initial pH of 8 resulted in the best cell growth (3.6 g/L) and biosurfactant production (0.073 g biosurfactant/g cell). Biosurfactant separation was most efficient using solvent extraction with chloroform/methanol (2:1 vol%) followed by acidification using 1N HCl.
