Morphologic Study of Renal Arteries in Rats Fed High-salt Diet (과량(過量)의 식염투여(食鹽投與)가 백서(白鼠)의 신동맥(腎動脈)의 형태학적(形態學的) 구조(構造)에 미치는 영향(影響)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究))

  • To evaluate the morphologic changes of the renal arteries in the condition of high-salt diet, we scheduled the control group which fed routine animal diet added 0.06% of Sodium chloride, low-salt group which fed with 2.0% of sodium chloride, and high-Salt group which fed with 8.0% of sodium chloride. The experimental animals were sacrificed every two week until 20 weeks of final experimental week. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Slight intimal thickening of the renal arteries is observed from 16th experimental week and continued the end of the experiment in the rats of control group. 2. In low-salt group slight intimal thickening of the renal arteries is observed from 12th experimental week and continued to the end of the experiment. 3. In high-salt group the intimal thickening began from 6th experimental week and its degree was hasten with week, and provoked moderate to high degree of lesion at the end of the experiment. Medial proliferation and degeneration of the intima and media, though their quality is mild, also associated at the end of the experiment.

Effect of Storage Method on Seed Chemical and Germination Traits in Barley (보리 저장방법에 따른 주요 성분 및 발아력 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate storability and develop suitable storage method for barley. Rough and milled barley such as Olbori(covered barley), Ssalbori(naked barley) and Chalssalbori (waxy naked barley) were packaged in 3P bag and OPP film bag, respectively, and stored at ambient and low temperature warehouse conditions. The weight loss was higher in milled barley than that of rough barley during barley storage. Acid value, one of the most important factor for grain quality evaluation, was increased from 4.9-9.0 mg KOH/100g to 6.5-19.9mg KOH/100g in milled barley at 16 months after storage. Reducing sugar content was increased while germination and water absorption rates were decreased during barley storage period. In terms of penal taste of boiled barley, rough barley could be stored safely more than one year regardless of storage methods where-ase milled barley stored in ambient temperature ware-house produced nasty flavor at 8 to 10 months after storage.

  • A field experiment was conducted to find out the influence of cropping systems under rotation of paddy-upland soil on soil microorganisms with specific reference to cations concentration in the soil. The results obtained was summarized as follows. 1. The number of soil bacteria and actinomycetes increased in fallow, continuous cultivation of rice and soybean while the number of fungi decreased. 2. Gram negative bacteria as Pseudomonas spp. and Rhizobium spp. remarkably incerased with increasing Gram positive bacteria of Bacillus subtilis in continuous cultivatio of soybean. 3. The relative population of soil born plant pathogen such as Fusarium spp. Rhizoctionia spp. and Phoma spp. to the total soil fungi was high in cultivation of potato and Chinese cabbage. The ratio of soil plant pathogen to the total soil fungi was high in cultivation of potato with Chinese cabbage. 4. The number of bacteria and actinomycetes was positively correlated with ratio of Ca+Mg/K in soil while negatively correlated with soil fungi.

  • Research was initiated to evaluate four domestic and overseas organic soil amendments (SAs) on turfgrass groundcover and density and to provide basic information on practical sports turf establishment. This study was conducted in Agrostis palustris Huds. (CB) grown in sand-based root zone. A total of 20 treatments of SA+sand were prepared by mixing 10 to 50% (v/v). These amendments were SABP (Berger Peat), SAEP (Eco-Peat), SAGS (G1-Soil), and SAPP (Premier Peat). Turfgrass groundcover and density significantly varied with SAs, its mixing rate to sand and week after seeding (WAS). Cumulative turfgrass density was variable, but a great change occurred between 2 and 4 WAS. Turfgrass density at 2 WAS ranged from 36.7 (SABP 30) to 89.7% (SAGS 20), being 53.0% in differences among treatments. However, CB reached to carrying capacity around 6 WAS. Thus, most treatments were similar to 90% or so in density. At the end of study, overall groundcover ranged between 60.7 (SAEP 10) and 96.7% (SAPP 50). Proper mixing rate was variable with SAs, being 10 and 20% for SABP and SAGS, respectively. But the optimum rate was 50% for both SAEP and SAPP.

Respiration of Fresh Sweet Persimmon and Its Use for Packaging Film Selection (온도조건에 따른 단감의 호흡특성 및 포장재 조건 선정)

  • Respiration and quality of persimmon fruits were monitored through the storage at 0, 5, 15 and $25^{\circ}C$. Respiration rate data at different temperatures were used for determining the $O_2$ and $CO_2$ permeabilities required to maintain the optimal package atmosphere (1~3% $O_2$, 4~7% $CO_2$). The estimated gas permeabilities were then compared to those of available plastic films for examining their potential application at various temperature conditions. $O_2$ consumption and $CO_2$ production were at similar order and leveled at stable value after initial time span with higher rates measured at higher temperatures. Major quality indexes during storage were observed to be ascorbic acid content change and firmness destruction with the most significant changes at $25^{\circ}C$ Higher $O_2$ and $CO_2$ permeabilites were required at higher temperatures, and common plastic films were shown to be unable to satisfy those requirements. Films or devices of high permeation property such as silicone rubber or microporous film may be combined to increase the permeation properties satisfying the required high gas permeabilities.

  • 겨울철 농경지 이용율 제고 및 자연경관 조성을 위하여 녹비작물을 재배하는 면적이 지속적으로 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 그 동안 녹비작물에 대한 연구는 주로 파종적기, 작물에 대한 양분공급효과 및 타감 효과 등에 집중되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 토양 중 양분공급 및 미생물활성의 경시적 변화, 잡초억제 및 작물생육에 대한 녹비작물의 투입효과를 알아보기 위하여 수행하였다. 국립농업과학원 구내포장에서 2007년 9월 하순에 헤어리베치(8kg/10a)와 호밀(10kg/10a) 종자를 파종한 후, 이듬해 4월 하순에 수확하여 토양에 환원하였다. 질소공급량은 화학비료(15.2kgN/10a) 대비 헤어리베치(32.2kg/10a, 212%), 호밀(9.2kg/10a, 60%) 및 헤어리베치+호밀(15.5kg/10a, 102%)로 헤어리베치의 질소공급효과가 매우 높았다. 토양 무기태질소 함량은 녹비 처리 후 30일경에 최대에 도달하였으나, 호밀 처리구는 조사기간 동안 큰 변화가 없었다. 토양 유기물 함량의 변화는 시험 전(10DBI)과 비교하여 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 녹비환원 후 10일경에 일시적으로 감소하는 경향을 보였는데 이는 녹비환원 후 토양경운에 의한 영향으로 판단되며, 무기태질소와는 달리 호밀처리구의 유기물함량이 지속적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 토양 탄수화물(수용성 당)은 시험 전에 가장 높았으며, 시간의 경과와 함께 서서히 감소되는 양상을 보였으며 토양 미생물탄소 및 미생물질소의 양은 녹비처리구가 화학비료 처리구에 비해 높았으며 녹비환원 후 50일 까지는 증가하다가 그 이후에 감소하는 경향을 보였는데 이는 토양의 무기태질소 및 탄수화물과 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 녹비처리 후 85일경에 잡초발생량을 조사한 결과, 화학비료 처리구에 비하여 헤어리베치 처리구는 40%, 호밀 처리구는 68%, 헤어리베치+호밀 처리구는 40%의 잡초억제효과가 있었다. 고추과의 수량은 화학비료 처리구(702kg/10a)>헤어리베치(694kg>10a)>헤어리베치+호밀(361kg/10a)>호밀(179kg/10a)의 순으로 나타났다.

  • Intestinal mucosal mast cell (MMC) responses were studied in rats experimentally infected with Metngonimur yokogawai (Dlgenea: Heterophyidael. Twenty Sprague-Dawley rats were fed each 2,500 metacercariae isolated from the sweetish and sacrificed on the week 1, 2, 3 and 4 post-Infection (PI). Recovery of worms was performed from the small intestine of each rat. To visualize the MMCs, duodenal and jejunal (upper, middle and lowers) tissue sections were made and stained with alcian blue/safranine-0. The average worm recovery rates were 16.2% and 13.8% on the week 1 and week 2, respectively, but they decreased rapidly to 4.1% and 4.2% on the week 3 and week 4 PI, respectively, which indicate spontaneous worm expulsion after the week 2. The MMC number In the Infected rats was, compared with uninfected controls, significantly Increased In the whole small intestine, through the whole period of observation. The peak level of mastocytosis was observed on the week 3 PI. It is strongly suggested that MMCs might be involved In the expulsion process of flukes from the rat intestine.

Changes in Enzymatic Activities during Eoyukjang Fermentation (어육장 발효 시 생성되는 효소의 활성 변화)

  • Eoyukjang is a traditional sauce-type of Korean food that is similar to a soybean sauce made from fermented soybeans, and it is produced from a fermented mixture of sea foods, meats, and meju (soybean paste). This study examined periodical changes in the enzymatic activities of ${\alpha}$-amylase, esterase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, protease, lipase, and lipoxygenase within the culture broth and solids of eoyukjang during 1 year of fermentation. The eoyukjang solids had 234-532% higher protein content than the culture broth. The specific activities of ${\alpha}$-amylase, esterase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, and protease increased in both the culture broth and solids. Particularly, in the culture broth, ${\alpha}$-amylase, esterase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, and protease activities rapidly increased (3- to 8-fold) until 10 months of fermentation, and then drastically decreased. However, the activities of lipase and lipoxygenase in both the culture broth and solids were less than 0.05 unit/mg of protein, respectively, throughout fermentation; thus, their activity levels were low and changed little over the 12 months. Overall, while the solids had higher protein content than the culture broth, the broth had greater enzyme activity levels during eoyukjang preparation.

  • Induction of cytochrome P45O (CYP) and 7-etholqresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) in the microsome exposed to 3-methylcholan-throne (MC), $\beta$-naphthoflavone (BNF) and phenobarbital-Na (PB) was investigated, Microsome was isolated from digestive gland of clam (Coelomactra antiquata) and then exposed to each chemical in concentration range of 0.1 to 1.0 mM for 7 hours. The CYP content and EROD activity in the microsome exposed to each chemical significantly increased compared to the control group. The overall CYP and EROD induction potency was in order of MC>BNF>PB. The induction response of EROD was two times higher than that of CYP level in the microsome exposed to MC, but the induction response of EROD was slightly higher than that of CYP level in BNF and PB exposure groups.

  • Quality characteristics of yakju prepared by different yeast strains such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae S 2, Saccharomyces cerevisiae S 6 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae IFO 1950 were investigated during fermentation. The pH in all kinds of yakju was gradually decreased until 6 days and then it was constant. In stage of fermentation, acidity of yakju made of Saccharomyces cerevisiae S 6 was higher than others. At the beginning stage of fermentation, ethanol contents were in the range of 0~2% increased to 9.5~11.5% after 10 days. Yakju made of Saccharomyces cerevisiae S-2 showed higher ethanol contents than others. Free sugars in yakju were found to be glucose and maltose. The contents of free sugars were decreased until 6 days and they were not detected. The content of ethanol in yakju showed the highest value at the 6th day and those of yakju A, B and C were 11.9, 9.5, 10.9%, respectively. Main organic acids in yakju were citric acid and lactic acid. The content of citric acid in yakju B was higher than others.
