Development and Evaluation of Real-time Travel Time Forecasting Model: Nonparametric Regression Analysis for the Seoul Transit System (비모수 회귀분석을 이용한 실시간 통행시간 예측 기법 개발 및 평가 (서울시 버스를 중심으로))

  • Since the 1st of July, 2004, the public transport system of the Seoul metropolitan area has been rearranged. In the new system, bus lines are divided into 4 classes-wide area, arterial road, branch, and rotation lines with renewed fare system based on the total distance travelled. Since central control center known as the Bus Management System (BMS) integrates the entire system operation. it now becomes feasible to collect travel information and provide it to the users scientifically and systematically. The Purpose of this study is to forecast transit travel time using real-time traffic data coming from both buses and subway. This is significant contribution since provision of real-time transit information and easy access to it would most likely boost the use of mass transit system, alleviating roadway congestion in the metropolitan area.

  • Variable Message Signs (VMS) is one of the major components for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) services that provides real-time traffic and incident information to drivers. The objective of this research was to develop a method determining the optimal location of VMS considering safety and driving characteristics of various drivers. A driving simulator was utilized to evaluate how drivers can safely exit to off-ramp depending on various VMS locations while information relating route diversion was provided. The binary logistic regression and factor analysis were applied in developing a probability model that predicts the success of safe off-ramp exiting. Based on the developed probability model, a method to estimate the spacing between VMS and off-ramp is suggested. It is expected that the products of this study would be utilized as a tool in determining VMS locations for ITS planners and designers.

  • Throughout the nation, each local Agricultural Cooperative (AC) has built its own agri-products processing factory in order to provide the steady demand source for the locally produced agri-products. However, each factory of AC has performed poorly with no competitive advantages against the national brands of private companies. Thus, from the perspective of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF), the current situation of unorganized and inefficient management of the factories under the control of each local AC needs to be improved. In this case analysis, we introduce the problems of the AC factories and discuss the NACF's approach to solve the problems. In particular, given that AC as well as NACF are the non-profit organizations, it is worthwhile to fay special attention to the process of restructuring the system of distribution channels for the processed agri-products with the concept of marketing.

  • This research is motivated by the question, "Where, when, and through what mode does an individual passenger moving within a subway station use to travel from starting to final destinations ?" To answer this, the stations passed by the individual passenger, the path taken, and modes used need to be known beforehand. In the metropolitan integrated public transportation fare system, Automated Fare Collection System(AFC) can be a source of information on transit modes, stations, and paths of individual passengers. AFC calculates a fare for the passenger based on travel data such as boarding and alighting stations, time, and mode used. In this research, an Selected Station Analysis(SSA) method, in which AFC data is used to observe passenger movement in the metropolitan public transportation subway station from the perspective of subway transfer stations, is proposed. SSA subdivides individual passenger movement in transfer stations and analyzes initial station/time and final destination station/time information using the trip chain perspective.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop field-centered educational system in contract based department using DACUM for occupational group in software development and materialization area. Job model for contract based department was developed and both educational need and appropriate educational method was investigated and analyzed. Then, knowledge, skill and attitude were elicited and categorized. Subjects for S-OJT were organized and hierarchy of subjects was constructed according to career path set by job experts. Then, educational system in contract based department for software development and materialization was developed by connecting developed subjects with former curriculum. Based on this result the directions for the future studies was discussed.

  • As the rapid increase of highway investments from Private sector the organizations of highway operator became diversified, and thus causing various unexpected problems. Highways invested by private capitals have different fare rates and managing systems. It is desirable to reduce drivers' inconvenience using more than two sections of highways spread over different jurisdictions. The main purposes of this research are i) data survey and problem statements ii) prediction of future problems and preparing appropriate countermeasures. This research are divided into two parts. They are management system and fare collection system. Major investigations of this study are as follows, optimum toll operation models depend on charging systems and interchange shapes of two interconnecting expressways. Assuming that the current payment and the new electronic payment system aye used concurrently for a while, some alternatives for the inter-operation to collect tolls ate suggested focusing on the efficiency to tollway corporations as well as convenience to drivers. The advantages and disadvantages of the alternatives, including their characteristics, are compared.

  • The third-party logistics industry mainly delivers goods from a place to an arrival place on behalf of the freight owner. To handle the work, they need a transportation route including transportation equipment between the starting place and the arrival place, schedule information for departure/arrival and transportation cost. Actually, automatic searching for an optimal transportation route, which considers arrival and departure points for intermodal transportation, is not a simple problem. To search efficiently transportation route, the collection of schedule information for intermodal transportation and transportation route generation have become critical and vital issues for logistics companies. Usually, they manually make a plan for a transportation route by their experience. Because of this, they are limited in their ability if there is too much cargo volume and a great many transactions. Furthermore, their dependence on the conventional way in doing business causes an inefficient selection of transporters or transportation routes. Also, it fails to provide diverse alternatives for transportation routes to the customers, and as a result, increases logistics costs. In an effort to solve these problems, this study aims to develop a route planning system based on agent, which can collect scattered schedule information on the Web. The route planning system also has an algorithm for transportation route generation in intermodal transportation.

  • User travel behavior is based on the existence of complete traffic information in deterministic user optimal principle by Wardrop(1952). According to deterministic user optimal principle, users choose the optimal route from origin to destination and they change their routes arbitrarily in order to minimize travel cost. In this principle, users only consider travel time as a factor to take their routes. However, user behavior is not determined by only travel time in actuality. Namely, the models that reflect only travel time as a route choice factor could give irrational travel behavior results. Therefore, the model is necessary that considers various factors including travel time, transportation networks structure and traffic information. In this research, more realistic deterministic optimal traffic assignment model is proposed in the way of route recognizance behavior. This model assumes that when users decide their routes, they consider many factors such as travel time, road condition and traffic information. In addition, route recognizance attributes is reflected in this suggested model by forward searching method and backward searching method with numerical formulas and algorithms.

Control Mechanism of AMPK and Autophagy for Mitochondrial Biogenesis (AMPK와 자식작용의 미토콘드리아 생합성 조절 기전)

  • Increased oxidative stress by abnormal mitochondrial function can damage cell signal transduction and gene expression, and induce insulin resistance or diabetes. Autophagy, however, improve insulin resistance by clearance of malfunctioning mitochondria. Exercise also recovers the muscle dysfunction and degeneration by activating mitochondrial biogenesis. As it seems that exercise and autophagy might act as an orchestrated network to induce mitochondrial biogenesis, we investigated whether autophagy is involved in AMPK signal pathway stimulated by exercise or AICAR to increase mitochondrial biogenesis. And it showed that PGC-1 and mtTFA, but not autophagy marker LC3 mRNA expression were significantly increased by 6 hr of acute exercise. On the other hand, PGC-1 and mtTFA mRNA expression were upregulated by AICAR treatment to C2C12 myotube. However these genes were not inhibited by LC3 siRNA transfection. These results provide the evidence that autopahgy affects on mitochondrial biogenesis through different signal pathway from AMPK signal transduction.

Location Based Reliable Routing Protocol for Tactical Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (전술 모바일 애드 혹 네트워크를 위한 위치 기반의 신뢰성 제공을 위한 라우팅 방법)

  • Recently, developments in the field of communication and network technologies induced new paradigm in the defense weapon system. As a consequence, military authorities develop the Tactical Information Communication Network(TICN) system to adapt to the changing paradigm. One of the most important functions of TICN is real-time communication. As a result, TICN system needs to receive real-time information from the battlefield, and the key technology to support these features is MANET(Mobile Ad-Hoc Network) routing protocol. In this paper, we analyze problems of the shortest path scheme in tactical Ad-Hoc networks, which is widely used in common Ad-Hoc networks. We propose efficient routing protocol for tactical MANET by considering the environment of small combat units, such as node position, speed and data size. The proposed algorithm shows reliable data transfer and low latency in battlefield.
