  • Workflow mining is a newly emerging research issue for rediscovering and reengineering workflow models from workflow logs containing information about workflows being executed on the workflow engine. In this paper, we proposed workcase mining which was used dependency among activities. Main purpose of this paper is to minimize discrepancies between the modeled workflow process and the enacted workflow process as it is actually being executed. That is, we can get a complete set of activity firing sequences on buildtime. Besides, we can discover from workflow logs that which path out of all reachable paths a workcase has actually followed through on runtime. For this purpose we proposed two algorithm, the one is 'Activily-Dependent Net Algorithm' and the other is 'E-Walk Series Analysis Algorithm'.

  • Traditionally, economic growth has been uneven over the space. It has also been true for the recovery from social and economic crisis in old industrial areas of the advanced economies. Even if many of such old industrial areas were seriously affected by de-industrialization, some areas have been showing progress, while others have not been so. While interpreting this phenomenon used to be a key issue in economics, main stream liberal economic theorists' explanation was uneven distribution of economic resources, such as raw materials, labour and money. However, some revolutionary economic theorists have brought in the concept of "history" in explaining the phenomenon. Path dependence theorists, for example, interpretate the emergence of different growth paths with the concept of historical accidents. This contrasts to the recent argument of the group of scholars suggesting the concept of "regional resilience," who argue that uneven growth and different growth paths are originated from different regional resilience. This paper introduces the backgrounds, characteristics and utilities of the two theories: path dependence theory and the concept of regional resilience.

  • The Ruhr area in the Northwestern Germany grew rapidly from the 1850s based on coal mining and iron and steel industries, playing a key role as an engine of industrial growth. Since the 1950s, however, the area has been experiencing a serious economic crisis as the traditional industries declined. The crisis was comprised of increasing unemployment and abandoned industrial lands and facilities. Oberhausen and Gelsenkirhen are typical cities of the Ruhr, characterized by such economic crisis. Oberhausen attempted to solve the problems by developing a large leisure town, composed of a sopping mall, restaurants, and other arts and cultural activities, on a former steel mill site. Gelsenkirhen, on the other hand, went on to promote renewable energy industries, business incubators, and energy-saving housing complexes. This paper analyses the processes and outcomes of urban revitalization policies of the two cities, based on the path dependence theory, and draws theoretical and policy implications.

  • The advanced industrial economies have been suffering from rapid de-industrialization since the 1970s. In order to overcome such crisis, many countries have attempted to establish science parks and technopoles. Sophia Antipolis in France is one of the best examples of the worldly known technopoles, which was launched in the late 1960s. However, earlier evaluations on the technopole were not positive, while there were no dynamic innovative activities among institutions and firms of the technopole at least up to the early 1990s. While some changes in such circumstance have been observed since then, this paper attempts to investigate the changes and transformations occurring from the technopole since the late 1990s. Based on the review of the recent publications, statistics and expert interviews, the current paper concludes that Sophia Antipolis has been transformed into a dynamic and innovative technopole.

  • The idea that an effect counterfactually depends on its cause is simple and intuitive. However, this simple idea runs into various difficulties. The active route account, in order to avoid the difficulties, analyzes causation in terms of counterfactual dependence under certain control. In her recent article, Seahwa Kim criticizes Sungsu Kim's earlier attempt to defend the active route account from its counterexamples. Her criticisms are convincing, and defenders of the active route account or counterfactual analysis of causation in general need another defense. In response, a two-step defense is proposed. First, the scope of the active route account is restricted to 'proximate' causal relation. Second, a control over factors that are in proximate causal relation is offered to figure out 'distant' causal relation. The result is that with proper control, an effect indeed counterfactually depends on its cause.

  • Tracing an evolutionary technological trajectory in the macroscopic viewpoint is useful for technology policy, but not for corporate technology and intellectual property strategy. Tackling this issue, recent bibliometric studies using patents and papers have made efforts to identify more specific and detailed technological trajectory. However, these studies cannot go beyond simple description of the past trajectory. Also, identification of technology fusion and evolution relies on experts judgments. We suggest a way of identifying microscopic evolutionary technological trajectories by combining patent citation network analysis with dynamic technology tree. Also, using new indicators of generality, diversity and novelty, we can detect key technologies that can be a starting point of next generation technology and derivative technology. HVDC(High Voltage DC transmission) system technology is exemplified.

  • Order picking in automotive service parts warehouses is considered to be the most labor-intensive operation. Such warehouses contain hundreds of thousands of items, but normally 20% of products contribute to about 80% of turnover according to Pareto's 80-20 principle. Therefore most fast moving items are located near an outbound area which is called the "Golden Zone". Order picking routing efficiency is related to productivity and labor cost. However, most companies use simple methods. In this paper, we describe a series of computational experiments over a set of test cases where, we compared various previously existing routing heuristics to an optimal algorithm. We focus on examining the influence of the golden zone on the performance and selection of routing methods. The results obtained show that the optimal routing method increases the productivity at least 17.2%, and all the routing methods have better performance as the pick up rate from the golden zone increases.

  • Reaction rates for mononuclear heterocyclic rearrangement of N-(5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-N'-arylformamidines into 3-acylamino-1-aryl-1,2,4-triazoles were determined spectrophotometrically in dioxane/water (50 : 50, v/v). There are two different reaction paths according to pH. One is pH-independent path, the other is pH-dependent one. In pH-independent path, the result of substituent effect by IYT equation show that N-H bond breaking as well as new N-N bond formation controls the reaction rate. In pH-dependent path, concave-upward Hammett plot was observed. It can be concluded that new N-N bond formation is more advanced than N-H bond breaking in transition state for electron-donating substituents, but N-H bond breaking is more advanced than new N-N bond formation for electron-withdrawing substituents.

  • During the 1970s and 1980s, most of the industrial cities of the Western World went through serious de-industrialization process. While the economy of the cities declined, the cities were suffering from the lack of job opportunities, under-use of industrial infrastructure, and environmental degradation. Many of the cities attempted to tackle such problems, but very few of them have succeeded. However, the Ruhr area is showing some promising signs. This paper attempts to analyze regional revitalization policies of Dortmund, a central city of the Ruhr, and looks into the processes and outcomes of the policies. The author argues Dortmund has successfully created and set forth a new industrial path based on high-tech industries, such as information technology, micro-electromechanical systems(MEMS), logistics, and biomedical industries, away from its traditional industries, such as coal mining and steel making. Speaking from the perspective of path theory, he continues to argue that Dortmund has successfully 'locked-out' from the traditional industries, in contrast to the Grabher's argument.

  • This paper presents how to improve the efficiency and accuracy in the pricing and sensitivity evaluation for derivatives, since the need for the evaluation of complicated derivatives is increased. The Monte Carlo(MC) simulation using the quasi random number instead of pseudo random number can improve the elapsed time and accuracy for the valuation of European-type derivatives. However, the quasi MC simulation method has its limit for applying it in the multi-dimensional case such as American-type and path-dependent options due to the increased correlation between dimensions as the dimension of random numbers is increased. In order to complement this problem, we develop a modified method in which correlation values are controlled to be below a pre-specified value. Thus, this method is applicable for the pricing of either derivatives ill which underlying assets or risk factors are several or derivatives having path-dependent or early redemption property. Furthermore, we illustrate that it is important to take an appropriate grid interval for the use of finite difference method(FDM) by applying the FDM to one example of non-symmetrical butterfly spreads.
