  • This paper describes a compartment dynamic model for evaluating the contamination level of kritium in agricultural plants exposed by accidentally released tritium. The present model uses a time-dependent growth equation of plant so that it can predict the effect of growth stage of plant during the exposure time. The model including atmosphere, soil and plant compartments is described by a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, and is able to predict time-dependent concentrations of tritium in the compartments. To validate the model, a series of exposure experiments of HTO vapor on Chinese cabbage and radish was carried out at the different growth stage of each plant. At the end of exposure, the tissue free water(TFWT) and the organically bound tritium(OBT) were measured. The measured concentrations were agreed well with model predictions.

  • An analysis method is developed for the prediction of venting in multiple compartments which are connected in series or parallel through multiple ports. The existing method by the authors is modified to remove the limitation in number of ports and compartments, and the more general polytropic relation or solution of the additional energy equation replaces the previous isentropic relation allowing the prediction of pressure rise in addition to pressure drop. The accuracy of the method is verified by comparison with the results by NASA Flap code for the problem of pressure drop in a payload in the Space Shuttle cargo bay. It is expected that this method will be a useful tool in prediction of the pressure variation in a payload or payload capsule without mentioning the payload fairing itself.

  • The ship working environment of combat service support boat is very inferior to the ground working environment. For this reason, the crew of a combat service support boat suffer from an occupational disease such as hardness of hearing. Owing to its small size and low status, the improvement of its working and residential environment is occasionally ignored and its indoor noise was not fully investigated. In this study, for improving its residential environment indoor, the indoor noise of its shipboard compartments was analysed.

  • The ship working environment of combat service support boat is much inferior to the ground working environment. For this reason, the crew of a combat service support boat suffer from an occupational disease such as hardness of hearing. Owing to its small size and low status, the improvement of its working and residential environment was occasionally ignored and its indoor noise was not fully investigated. In this study, for improving its residential environment indoor, the indoor noise of its shipboard compartments was analysed. These studies define the indoor noise level of combat service support boat is very high and some of indoor noise is exceeded the criteria for ship noise. Compared with marine police vessels, the indoor noise levels of marine police vessels are higher than the level of combat service support boat.

  • In this paper, we introduce noise prediction program of HVAC system to assist low-noisy design of ship's cabin. The developed program calculates sound power levels at HVAC components considering primary and secondary noise generated by fan and duct element, duct element noise attenuation, and duct break-in noise based on the authentic empirical method suggested by NEBB and acoustic power balancing method. Sound pressure level at cabin with or without ceiling system is evaluated by the diffuse-field theory considering diffuser and duct break-out sound powers. Moreover, the program provides intuitive pre- and post-processors using modem GUI functions to help efficient modeling and evaluation of cabin and HVAC component noise. To validate the accuracy and convenience of the program, noise prediction for a HVAC system is demonstrated.

  • Metal ducts for transporting air conditioning and heating inside ships have recently been replaced by cloth ducts that have the advantage of delivering air evenly to the compartments, with excellent noise reduction in major compartments, such as combat command rooms, steering rooms, and sound detector cabins. Since the performance requirements of fabric ducts for vessels are strict, and the entire length of the ducts was imported from Korea, the government wants to create economic effects through localization of fabric ducts. Air permeability and fire prevention performance tests verified the applicability to naval vessels of fabric ducts developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries and HiDact, and performance requirements presented in the POS were verified. As a result of the tests, the fabric ducts met the requirements for air permeability and fireproof performance.
