  • This study is a study on the factors of preference for mobile game characters whose intellectual property rights (IP) influence is great. There have been many cases in which user-side research has been conducted on the character's preference factors. However, it is largely macro-divided. Detailed analytical studies are needed because details are overlooked. By classifying the elements of the character, the five-point scale of the recorder also obtains the data through the survey. Detailed factors were analyzed according to the results. Prior studies and results were compared and factors consistent with prior studies were analyzed. Because this study analyzed detailed factors, unlike previous studies of macro view. It is expected to help develop characters in the future.

  • In digital age, multimedia technology has changed the learning method as a learner-directed way. CD-rom and internet that are major two multimedia learning way, has aimed at edutainment which combine education and entertainment. However, existing educational contents can only induce temporary learning motivation, and are in short of entertaining factors enough to induce continuous and ingenuous learning motivation. Therefore, in order to be used by users efficiently, educational software have to adapt characteristics of educational game more actively. In this paper, adoption method of characteristics of educational game in learning contents is sought and the specific example of adoption is demonstrated by a case study of developing vocabulary learning educational game.

  • On-line game gradually grew into a significant part in Korean culture due to rapid development of internet. As icons are utilized as interface, the concept of UI(User Interface) receives spotlight in playing games, and the play bug appears most frequently in MMORPG genre. The introduction of icons brought partial inefficiency in dividing screen sectors while playing games, which means play sector is reduced. On the meantime, components of UI possess different places so that cause considerable confusion to heavy users. This study attempts to analyze the top 5 commonly-played games and to understand the necessity and status of UI components by surveying heavy users. The result of this study shows that there is notable difference between UI of games on-service and preference of heavy users. This study could suggest UI of a better quality by restructuring and rearranging the UI components based on the heavy users' preference as shown in the survey. It is expected that this study can contribute to creating a more effective game play by eliminating possible changes of UI upon different games and realizing broader play sector.

  • Game balance is an very important factor for game design, it is necessary factor to make game more fun. Most of game companies have been using their own balance method for successful game development. An efficient balance method always can't guarantee successful game development but it is true for game developer to need standard balance method for efficient game development. Fighting system between characters is mainly implemented in genre including action. Direct balance factors for fighting between characters are their characteristics and attack patterns. In this paper, We identify direct balance factors for game including fighting system between characters and propose mathematical method for it.

  • In this paper, we characterize and analyze the technology elements and their hierarchy for the college graduating students performing capstone design projects in a game software major. When graduating students in a game software major must make a game for graduation, they need to know the pertinent technologies and their hierarchy. Technology analysis for game making would mean for students to recognize how the low level technologies taught in freshman and sophomore periods are linked to the high level technologies taught in junior and senior periods. Also, the analysis would help the professors design the game software major curriculum in detail based on the levels and the hierarchy of the individual technologies.

  • "White Day", a horror adventure game that has gone down in the history of the Korean gaming industry, is not a cruel horror game with hideous monsters and spooky mood, but a Korean-style horror game with auditory effects of ghastly sound. This paper aims at identifying the positive story-telling structure through the components of the game. This study found that the game is based on a well-organized scenario by the background, events and characters. In addition, its design and story-telling structure turned out to reinforce the positive effects of the game, by not imitating the western-style splatter games. As it provides players with playful components that bear mimicry and ilinx to maximize interactive fun, White Day is a prime example of positive games that are strongly needed in this era.

  • Smart phone games market is getting bigger. In this circumstance, the Experience game focusing user's activity is popular among the smart phone games because the user can be easily absorbed into the game and felt more sense of unity with the game. there are several studies about game storytelling which focus on story visualization or effective methods of game design, but the study of game storytelling connected with user's activity is not entirely satisfactory. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a system for user's activity visualization of the experience game for smart phone. To achieve this, firstly, we show the model which is about the overall configuration of experience game for smart phone. secondly, the detail configurations of the overall game model is introduced. lastly, standing on the model, we introduce a simulation model and a developed program.

  • As the prevalence of mobile platforms, expanding digital content production and also increasing interest about the serious game. However, existing educational serious games are short of application of educational function and lower effectiveness that not linked with off-line education. In this paper, we developed an educational serious game 'Rice-Mimi Adventure' for children based Tablet PC. The Games are designed five steps by four elements that storytelling, playing, music and cooking. Specially, players interaction between characters should be increase their own concentration and interest. For the effectiveness verification that linked education of on/off-line, experiment to 126 students of 3,4th grade in Choenan. A result shows positive data that on/off-line linked education using Tablet PC and effectiveness of game contents applied design factors. For this work, we should find effective class and teaching method using digital contents in off-line education for children.

  • This study mainly focused on horror movies and horror games. Camera angles of horror movies and compositions of horror games are main factors that can cause fear in people's minds. Through analyzing four kinds of factors, including sensual, expectant, restrictive and executive fear elements, in horror games, and combining with the patterns of camera angles and film techniques that Alfred Hitchcock applied in his horror movies, this research investigated certain types of compositions and concluded ones that were more effective on growing fear in players' minds and enhancing their involvement. In conclusion, only the combination of factors in horror-game compositions, like diagonal composition, dual-diagonal composition and inverse triangle-line composition, with visual elements enables player's growing sense of fear and the increase in involvement. Therefore, future works should apply more of these fear-inducing compositions.
