A DPLL with a Modified Phase Frequency Detector to Reduce Lock Time (록 시간을 줄이기 위한 변형 위상 주파수 검출기를 가진 DPLL)

  • A new phase frequency detector based digital phase-locked loop (PLL) of 125 MHz was designed using the 130 nm CMOS technology library consisting of inverting edge detectors along with a typical digital phase-locked loop to reduce the lock time and jitter for mid-frequency applications. XOR based inverting edge detectors were used to obtain a transition earlier than the reference signal to change the output more quickly. The HSPICE simulator was used in a Cadence environment for simulation. The performance of the digital phase-locked loops with the proposed phase frequency detector was compared with that of conventional phase frequency detector. The PLL with the proposed detector took $0.304{\mu}s$ to lock with a maximum jitter of approximately 0.1142 ns, whereas the conventional PLL took a minimum of $2.144{\mu}s$ to lock with a maximum jitter of approximately 0.1245 ns.

  • An integrated 3.125Gbps clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit is presented. The circuit does not need a reference clock. It has a phase and frequency detector (PFD), which incorporates a bang-bang type 4X oversampling PD and a rotational frequency detector (FD). It also has a ring oscillator type VCO with four delay stages and three zero-offset charge pumps. With a proposed PD and m, the tracking range of 24% can be achieved. Experimental results show that the circuit is capable of recovering clock and data at rates of 3.125Gbps with 0.18 um CMOS technology. The measured recovered clock jitter (p-p) is about 14ps. The CDR has 1.8volt single power supply. The power dissipation is about 140mW.

Design of Wide-Range radiation measurement system using GM Tube and NaI(TI) Detector (GM Tube 및 NaI(TI) 검출기를 사용한 Wide-Range 방사선 측정 시스템의 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a wide-range radiation measurement system using GM Tube and NaI(TI) detector. The proposed system is designed as a small module optimized to control and count the detector signal of NaI(Tl) Detector and GM Tube. The radiation dose is measured in a wide-range 0.1uSv/h to 10mSv/h in conjunction with two detectors, and two detectors operate simultaneously at 10uSv/h to 100uSv/h, where the measurement interval overlaps. The radiation dose was selected using a wide-range radiation measurement algorithm that controls the on/off function of the detector in the appropriate interval for the overlapped radiation measurable interval. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, it has been confirmed that the measurement uncertainty of each section is measured as ${\pm}7.5%$ and it operates normally under ${\pm}15%$ of the international standard.

  • A series of density log data were obtained from the standoff experiments made in the four physical model boreholes of different densities, and the properties of spine and rib curves have been derived by the analysis of the gamma-gamma data. Particularly, the shape of gamma ray propagation path between source and detector, the geometrical property of spine and rib curves, the influence of borehole density and the detector combination on the properties of the curves, and the adequate detector combination for standoff compensation could be discussed. It was also confirmed that spine and rib slopes can be expressed as proportional to source-to-detector distance ratio between far and near detectors. The result of this experiment was also effectively applied for understanding the basic concept of spine and rib slopes.

A study on working out arc detector related regulations (아크 검출기 관련 규정 마련에 관한 연구)

  • More than 70% of the electric fire cases happen in this country are caused by arc. This paper aims to prepare measures of preventing electric fires resulted from arc by analyzing the technical standards and related regulations on the existing circuit breaker. Based on the study, we concluded that the technical and legal standards of the arc detector should be separately regulated from those of existing circuit breaker, considering the characteristics of arc detectors. Accordingly, we suggested in this paper that the arc detector related regulations should either be added to the existing circuit breaker related regulations, or to be handled separately. For effective prevention of electric fires caused by arc, it is urgently required to install arc detector and it is, therefore, appropriate to make it mandatory to install an arc detector. Under the given circumstance, it is suggested that the arc detector related regulations should be added to the existing regulations for the circuit breaker. The technical standards of arc detectors should reflect the arc judgement specification, breaking threshold of arc and the range of unnecessary signal that breaker should not react to respond.

A Study on the Improvement of the Mast Design for Wind Detector (풍향풍속 검출기 마스트 설계 개선에 관한 연구)

  • During the sea trial test for the aerovane in AOE-II, a malfunction occurred in the wind detector movement around 40 to 90° on the starboard side and around 270 to 320° on the port side. The purpose of this study was to analyze and improve the cause of the above phenomenon. The wind detector was covered with a mast structure and was not affected directly by the blowing wind, and a vortex air current was formed behind the mast structure, causing the motion malfunction. The above problem was solved by moving and installing the wind detector on the newly installed mast yard. After conducting vibration analysis and reviewing the effects of vibration, the wind detector was installed in the new mast yard and verified by a sea trial test. Since the improvement plan was slightly effective, the position of the wind detector moved away from the mast on the new mast yard and was re-verified through a sea trial test. The movement malfunction of the wind detector did not occur, confirming that it is an appropriate improvement plan.

Development of Radiation Detector with Intensifying Screen (증감지를 이용한 방사선검출기 개발)

  • In this study, simple and portable radiation detection system using X-ray intensifying screen, optical sensor and micro-controller unit for education was proposed. The system was simply composed of detection unit consisting of an optical sensor and intensifying screen, micro-controller unit, and was designed to be suitable for portable. Radiation was measured using developed detection system and absorbed dose dosimeter with changing tube voltage from 50 to 100 kVp. The tube current and SDD were fixed on 100 mAs and 100 cm, and dose were measured repeated ten times at each tube voltage. The response and linearity of the detection system were confirmed using the measured values. It was confirmed that the comparison measurement results of the detection system and absorbed dose dosimeter showed a high correlation(r : 0.998, p<.001). In this results, the feasibility of the detection system with intensifying screen and micro-controller unit based was confirmed, and we considered that the developed detection system could be applied to portable, compact, low cost system for education.

  • The degradation of image due to the finite size of sensing devices has been one of the problems in all digital imaging systems. The basic study on the improvement of the spatial resolution was carried out in both spatial and frequency domains by the resolution recovery techniques which have been used in optics. Here, the techniques were applied to CT (Computerized Tomography) system, and image with finer resolution was obtained by these techniques. The basic theory is described and the results of the simulation are shown.

  • Squeezed vacuum injection을 이용한 중력파 검출기의 관측감도 향상 기술은 중력파 검출기 광신호의 양자 잡음을 제어하여 관측감도를 높이는 기술로 이론적으로는 10dB에 가까운 신호 대 잡음비 향상을 달성할 수 있다. 실험실 환경에서는 이미 10dB 이상의 신호 대 잡음비 향상을 달성했으며 실제 중력파 검출기에서는 GEO600의 6dB의 신호 대 잡음비 향상이 현재까지 가장 높은 수준이다. 한국천문연구원에서는 2019년부터 차세대 중력파 검출기 기술개발로 1064 nm 파장의 squeezer 개발을 추진했으며 현재 parametric down conversion을 이용해 squeezed vacuum을 생성하는 공진기를 제작하여 시험하는 단계에 있다. 이 발표에서는 한국천문연구원의 1064 nm squeezer 개발 연구와 개발 현황에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

An Optimum Radar Signal Detector using Orthogonal Projection (직교 투사를 이용한 최적 레이다 신호 검출기)

  • To obtain accurate target information in a radar system, clutter or interference signals must first be effectively removed for target detection. In this paper, the signal is projected onto a constrained orthogonal subspace, so that a minimum variance optimal detector is transformed into an unconstrained detector. The proposed algorithm is equivalent to the conventional optimal detector algorithm, and th algorithm structure shows that the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization can be achieved to obtain the fast convergence. The performance of the proposed method was observed by simulation experiments.
