  • This study is purposed to improve the performance of concrete made of recycled coarse aggregate. For this, recycled aggregate concrete was produced with SBR latex, and fluidity, dynamic performance and drying shrinkage were examined. According to the result, with mixing 6% of SBR latex, fluidity having resistance against segregation can be insured and compressive and flexural strength was increased. Especially the increment in terms of flexures was remarkable. In addition to, with above mixing ratio, drying shrinkage was reduced. Therefore there is a strong inference that superior recycled aggregate concrete can be produced with using 6% of SBR latex.

  • This paper presents the development of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) using lightweight aggregates. SCC using Lightweight aggregate properties have been evaluated in terms of flowability, segregation resistance and filling capacity of fresh concrete as per the standards of the Japanese Society of Civil Engineering (JSCE). The measurement of the mechanical properties of hardened SCC using lightweight aggregate, including compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, elastic moduli and density, as well as its dry shrinkage and carbonation properties were also carried out. The characteristics of SCC using lightweight aggregate at the fresh state showed that as the use of the lightweight aggregate, the flowability improves without exception of Mix No. 9 but the segregation resistance tends to decrease without exception of Mix No. 3, 4 and 5. The 28 days compressive strength of the SCC using lightweight aggregate was found to be 30 MPa or higher. The relationship between the compressive strength and the splitting tensile strength was found to be similar to the expression presented by CEB-FIP, and the relationship between the compressive strength and the elastic moduli was found to be similar to the expression suggested by ACI 318-08 which takes into consideration the density of concrete. The density of the SCC using lightweight aggregate decreased by up to 26% compared to that of the control SCC. Also, The dry shrinkage and carbonation depth of the SCC using lightweight aggregate increased compared to that of the control SCC.

  • It is necessary to maximize the durability of Concrete for the underground structure because its maintenance and reinforcement are difficult. For cracks due to drying shrinkage of the concrete on the characteristics of the material, there is a need for an alternative in the deterioration phenomenon that occurs. In this study, fundamental properties including drying shrinkage of mortar and concrete were investigated to replace fine aggregate from cooling slag for reducing drying shrinkage of mortar and concrete. In the case of rapid cooling slag fine aggregate, it was effective to reduce and restrain initial shrinkage of mortar and concrete, and compressive strength was increased through the all specimen in proportion to its replacement ratio.

  • The volume of construction waste material from the entire waste material volume in Korea is approximately 47.3% to take the biggest ratio, and from them, the waste concrete takes up approximately 62.8% that recycling is an urgent issue to address. Therefore, the government recommends more diverse and broader facilitation of the recycled aggregate in order to promote recycling the construction waste materials. In addition, when using concrete recycled aggregate in building, building standard such as floor area ratio and building height are being mitigation. The standard is a condition that mitigation the floor area ratio by up to 15% when using up to 25% of concrete recycled aggregate. Therefore, this study reviewed the relaxation of construction of construction standards when using concrete recycled aggregate in order to actively recommend the use of concrete recycled aggregate. And using the recycled coarse aggregate among the recycled aggregate, the appropriate mixing time in the batch plant according to the substitution rate was derived. In addition, using recycled aggregate admixture in order to improve the drying shrinkage, did comparative analysis about physical and mechanical property of concrete.

  • To solve the exhaustion problem of natural aggregate which were create the high value in construction and environmental industry, recycled aggregates have considerable benefits than other materials. However, even though many researches have been conducted with recycled aggregates, building structures with recycled aggregated are rarely constructed because it has lower quality than natural aggregates have. In this study, mechanical and strain properties of recycled aggregates concrete containing steel fibers have been reviewed in order to complement performance of recycled aggregates concrete. As results, recycled aggregates concrete showed lower compressive strength and elastic modulus than plain concrete. But, recycled aggregates concrete containing steel fibers showed equivalent performance with plain concrete. In review of drying shrinkage and creep coefficient, recycled aggregates concrete containing steel fibers showed similar behavior with plain concrete in the range of 0.5 Vol.% fiber content rate by internal restraint effect, moisture transport restraint effect and strength enhancement effect of steel fiber. Therefore, it is considered that mixing steel fibers with concrete is the effective method as a active application plan for recycled aggregates.

  • The properties of recycled fine aggregates which had different source concrete were examined by mortar test. With higher strength of source concrete, specific gravity of recycled fine aggregate was higher and absorption of recycled fine aggregate was lower due to reduction of the volume of adhered cement paste. The compressive strength and flexible strength of mortar with recycled fine aggregate were affected by the interface boundary of new mortar and the strength of adhered mortar. Strength development of mortar with recycled fine aggregate reduced because recycled fine aggregate become a porous material with the smaller strength of source concrete. The drying shrinkage of mortar was about$800{\sim}2000{\mu}m/m$. It was about 1.5 times than that of mortar with natural fine aggregate. Relative dynamic modulus of elasticity was a similar level with that of mortar with natural fine aggregate.

  • The aggregate, which does not satisfy the standard of KS F 2573, was selected for this investigation. The 28day compressive strength of recycled aggregate concrete without pozzolan material was 21.7MPa, which was less than the strength of concrete made with crushed stone. However, the compressive strength at 28 days was improved by mixing early rapid hardening cement to the cement at the weight ratio of 2.5%. Furthermore, the compressive strength at 91 days and 180 days increased significantly by adding fly ash, slag powder, and diatom powder. The tensile strength of recycled aggregate concrete with pozzolan material also increased about 40% compared to the general concrete. Futhermore, the shrinkage and creep of recycled aggregate concrete with fly ash and slag powder was a little decreased that of recycled aggregate concrete with fly ash and diatom powder. Relationship between compressive strength and creep coefficient was shown to the linear relation like as ${\sigma}_c=-30CF+404$.

  • This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of drying shrinkage for concrete slabs as a project for Korean pavement design procedure. According to the volume-surface ratios and aggregate types, the experiments have been executed for 252 days. In order to simulate the volume-surface ratio of a real concrete pavement slab, three-layer epoxy coating and wrapping were used to prevent the evaporation at the part of specimen surfaces. As a result of preliminary test, coating and wrapping method was identified as reliable for three months. According to the volume-surface ratio, the drying shrinkage of the concrete specimen using sandstone was measured 1.32 to 1.8 times higher than that of the limestone specimen. Comparing to the measured drying shrinkage strains and established ACI and CEB-FIP model equations, it turned out that those model equations were underestimated. Finally, considering the age and volume-surface ratios, the prediction equations of the drying shrinkage of concrete specimen were proposed through a multiple nonlinear regression analysis.
