Development of the CII Knowledge Structure (건설지식정보분류체계의 개발 - CII 사례를 중심으로)

  • The industry is becoming more competitive and it is essential for any organization to continuously improve in order to stay competitive. As an effort to increase their technical and managenial capabilities, many organizations have been trying to adobt 'new knowledge' coming out of research and implementing it to their business processes. It is a common belif that tins theme of 'Knowledge Management' is helpful in keeping organizations healthy and competitive. This study was performed in the context of 'Knowledge Management'. This paper will describe the development process of the CII Knowledge Structure which was developed by CII to help its member organizations become incresingly 'knowlege-oriented'. The CII Knowldege Structure systematically organizes 'knowledge' that has been produced from various CII Research. Structure and contents of the CII Knowledge Structure and the implications of development of the Knowledge Structure will also be discussed in this paper.

  • MOCT(Ministry of Construction & Transportation) suggested 'A Plan for Implementation of Knowledge-based Economy for the Construction Industry' to add high value to the construction industry by means of knowledge-based management techniques. However, there are no guidelines which help the bodies of the construction industry(government, research center / university, enterprise, etc) with doing a knowledge management. So it is difficult to implement the knowledge management systems for the construction industry. To establish the knowledge portal for the construction industry, the objective of this study is to present works, which help the bodies of the construction Industry(government, research center/university, enterprise, etc) with doing knowledge activities efficiently. To accomplish this objective, we analyzed the overall knowledge management activities. And we suggested an implementing direction of the knowledge management systems for the construction industry and a strategy for implementing the knowledge management systems in the construction industry. As results of this study, we established a strategy of knowledge management and works of the bodies of the construction industry(government, research center / university, enterprise, etc) We expect that the results of this study will be used as a manual of the bodies of the construction industry for implementing knowledge management systems and the knowledge portal that brings the construction industry to high value added industry.

  • Since its introduction in mid 1990s, Financial Crisis in Korea, knowledge management (KM) has been considered as a new, optimal way of corporate management style. And a large number of researches, either theoretically or empirically, were carried out in order to find out what the key success factors will be in common. However, though key success factors are extracted, it can hardly be a successful project if those are not well matched for the unique industry characteristics, still more in construction industry. Even we can find some KM precedents in construction industry, it can hardly be revealed how far they exerted themselves in order to match key factors with industry characteristics. Hence, at the dawn of implementing KM, this research work will scrutinize key success factors (KSFs) derived from previous studies and funnel those KSFs into construction domain. Then rearranged KSFs will be proposed with each key issues. Therefore, this article can contribute to setting strategies for KM in construction sector.

  • Better utilization of the knowledge of employees in any organization has long been accepted as a vital component of a corporation's competitiveness. This has been considered even more important in the construction industry due to the dynamic and intermittent nature of construction projects. With the rapid advance of network technologies during the last decade, construction companies quickly shifted their focus of knowledge management to interactive online repositories. However, the efforts of leveraging organizational knowledge has remained fragmented in the construction industry until recent years. In addition, companies have begun to realize that actual returns on this investment in network technologies would be far less than initial expectations if online efforts do not incorporate companies' general offline knowledge management efforts, which are done without the use of computer network. Thus, this paper focused on assessment of implementing current Lessons-Learned Systems at the large construction companies in Korea to provide the foundation for developing a renovated conceptual Lessons-Learned System model.

  • 제조업과 유통업 등을 대상으로 했던 '한국서비스품질우수기업 인증'이 건설업 부문으로 확대되면서 건설업계의 관심이 커지고 있다. 서비스품질우수기업 인증제도는 기업 및 국가 경쟁력 제고와 소비자의 삶의 질 향상 및 권익보호를 위해 서비스 품질에 대해 이뤄지는 유일한 정부 인증으로 재단법인 키캄연구소(KICAM : 한국건설경영연구소)가 절차를 진행하고 지식경제부 기술표준원이 인증서를 발급해 준다. 2001년 시행된 이래 현재까지 800여 개 제조 유통업체 및 공공기업이 인증을 획득했고, 지난 9월부터는 고객서비스를 중시하는 건설산업 구조변화를 반영해 건설부문에도 시행됐다. 건설업 서비스품질 인증은 아파트 분양에서부터 입주, 사후관리까지 모든 단계의 사전 사후서비스 프로세스는 물론 서비스 품질문화 달성을 위한 리더십 등 추진력 부문, 고객만족 추진체계 등 시스템 부문, 서비스 경영성과 부문 등을 평가지표에 따라 종합 심사하게 된다. 특히 현장평가와 고객평가, 그리고 암행평가를 토대로 기술표준원 인증심사위원회에서 1000점 만점에 800점(중소기업은 700점) 이상을 획득한 기업에 한해 우수기업으로 인정해 준다. 건설업 서비스품질 인증제도에 대해 살펴본다.

An Investigative Study on the Impact of Construction Policies on Market Entry and Exit of Construction Companies in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province (건설정책이 대구·경북지역 건설기업의 시장 진입과 퇴출에 준 영향에 관한 조사연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the effects of changes in policies of the construction industry on the entry and exit in the construction industry and to present the direction of changes in construction industry policies based on the analysis results. The purpose of this study is also to present by analyzing the factors influencing the increase and decrease of builders in the actual construction market. The results of the survey indicate that for general contractors in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, which are mostly small and medium-sized construction companies, the strengthening of registration standards (capital, technicians, etc.) has a significant impact on market entry and exit. However, on the other hand, many of the construction policies implemented to eliminate unqualified contractors in the construction market have had the effect of increasing the number of unqualified contractors. This suggests that construction policies in the construction cycle have not achieved their objectives.

  • Utilizing information and knowledge is one of the major objectives in the management of construction firm. This trend has been developed both inside of the firms and overall industry-wise. Therefore conventional methods of performance evaluation based on the financial statements such as balance sheet under GAAP(Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) are not sufficient to cover various Performance of constriction firms. Core competency of construction firms needs to be evaluated by the new performance evaluation model. In this research, the concept of BSC (Balanced Score Cards) is utilized to develop the performance evaluation model for construction firms considering four major performance indicators including financial perspective, customer perspective, learn and growth perspective, anti internal business perspective. A model of performance evaluation including criteria is proposed to evaluate construction firms based on their vision and strategy.

  • Performance measurement in corporation administration is very important. Though there is measurement, grasp problem, and because can improve. Corporation's tangible measuring is possible by specific amount of money of financial statement or loss and gain statement etc. but corporation's intangible property measurement isn't objective and there is no quantitative measurement method. So this research presents model which can do size of construction corporation's intangible property(Intellectual Assets) through model that measure corporation's intellectual assets to do quantification objectively and wish to present development direction of measurement method.

  • The purpose of the current study is to explore what are critical success factors(CSFs) from Posco Engineering and Construction Company's knowledge management practice. From a deep case study of the company, five CSFs are delineated. The first factor is to clarify knowledge management vision and strategy so that people in the company clearly understand directions of where the company goes to implement knowledge management. The second one is to grip the whole picture of knowledge management realms. Narrow eyes for the knowledge management leads to failure. The third factor depends on how to acquire people's cooperation. The fourth one has something to do with a way of approach. Unilateral or delegated approach is fragile for the successful implementation of knowledge management. Shared approach raises the probability of success. The fifth one is to monitor implementation acts and processes.
