Improvement Factors for Reinforced Concrete Firm against Removing the restriction of Construction Market Activation (겸업제한 폐지에 따른 철근콘크리트 전문건설업체의 발전요인)

  • Recently, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation announced a notice of the legislation related to remove the restriction of construction market activation in advance. he removement is an overwhelming change of the business structure in the Korean construction industry and has a far-reaching influence on general and trade contractors. The purpose of this research was to suggest improvement factors to survive an excessive competition in reinforced concrete market. This research did SWOT analysis to examine the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of reinforced concrete firm, and established business strategies. The factor analysis was also applied with questionnaire survey to staff in charge of reinforced concrete company. It is expected that the suggested improvement factors can give effective business strategies to reinforced concrete firm. Furthermore, trade contractors having difficulty in a bottleneck in management can get help from the result of this research.

  • 글로벌 물시장 동향을 살펴보면 ① 첨단 기술기반의 글로벌, ② 운영관리 시장의 확대, ③ 물기업의 토털 솔류션화(제조+건설+엔지니어링+운영관리), ④ 기후변화 대비 신규시장 형성 등 글로벌 물산업의 트렌드가 전환되고 있다. 특히 4차산업 혁명 기술과 코비드19의 영향으로 이러한 변화는 물산업 선도국가 및 선도기업의 정책·전략에 있어 지역별 특성과 분야별 물시장의 특성을 반영한 전략목표 재설정 및 재수립이 요구되고 있다. 한편 국내 물시장은 2020년 기준 상·하수도 보급률, 각각 98.7%, 94.5% 수준을 달성했음에도 불구하고. 해외시장 진출에 있어서는 미미한 수준에 머물고 있다. 따라서 국내 물산업의 지속적 발전을 위해서는 포화된 국내 시장을 벗어난 신시장 발굴이 필요한 상황이며, 국가별 상황에 대한 실태조사와 목표 시장별 분석을 통해 국가별, 분야별 맞춤 진출전략을 수립해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 국내 물기업의 유럽지역(프랑스/스페인) 진출 활성화를 위해 각 국가별 상황에 부합하는 목표 시장별 차별적 전략 도출을 위해 국가별 물시장 동향 및 전망, 진출목표 분야를 분석함으로써 국내 물기업의 프랑스/스페인 물시장 진입전략 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Forecasting the Changes in Construction Market by Analyzing General·Specialty Contractors' Perception on Business Area Abolition (종합·전문건설사업자의 상호시장진출 의향 및 참여방식 분석을 통한 종합·전문간 업역철폐에 따른 건설시장 변화 예측)

  • The purpose of this study is to forecast future changes in the construction market following the reorganization of the construction production system by analyzing the possible market size in which general contractors and specialty contractors may participate in each other, and by carrying out a survey. The ratio of correlation between general construction and specialty construction industries was derived by analyzing the relevance of work area of general contractors and specialty contractors, the similarity of registration standards, and the market in which general contractors and specialty contractors may be able to mutually participate. In order to overcome the limitation of previous studies which analyze the changes in construction market based on the statistical data, and to analyze in more detail the impact of reorganization of construction production system from market participants' view, a survey targeting general contractors and specialty contractors for their willingness and method of participating in the mutual market was conducted. As a result of the survey, it was found that 52% of general contractors were willing to participate in the specialized construction market and 55.1% of specialty contractors were willing to participate in the general construction market. It was found that there was a high willingness to participate in the earthworks, reinforced concrete works, facility maintenance and management, water and sewage facility works, and interior works, and high competition is expected for projects with a scale of 500 million to less than 3 billion won. Through this study, it will be possible for general and specialty contractors to understand the changes in the construction market due to the reorganization of the construction industry production system, and to respond effectively to these changes.

  • Existing safety education delivered to construction workers has limitations in concentration and immersion, so delivery power and interest are low. In order to improve the unstable behavior of construction workers and prevent safety accidents through education, a paradigm shift to hands-on education is necessary. Experiential safety education aims to contribute to the prevention of safety accidents and induce safe behavior by construction workers to recognize risks faster, select safe working methods suitable for the working environment, and improve emergency response and proactive response. Experiential education facilities have a follow-up learning effect in case of danger. The experience facility, which consists of the same working environment as the actual construction site, is designed to experience falls, equipment contraction, fire, and electric shock. In order to achieve the results of safety education that has invested a lot of time, construction workers must have motivation to participate, and "experiential safety education" through playful, deviant, and aesthetic experiences reduces serious accidents.

  • Strategic planning is an essential function of senior management in any business firm. Planning involves the firm's behavior in an competitive market and adaptation of the company's resources towards the selected market strategy. This study presents a methodological procedure for strategic planning in global top-tier construction firms. This procedure consists of the following stages. First, analyzed growth of revenue in which weight of total construction firms' revenue shown in Global Top 225 Contractors(ENR). Second, analyzed specialty of construction products. The products are General Building, Power, Water Supply, Industrial/Petroleum Process, and Transportation. Third, analyzed business the portfolio plan. The business portfolio plan includes both local/overseas market and specification/diversification of construction products. It affects the subsequent choice of a benchmarking for development of each construction company. The choice of the benchmarking firm, among several available alternatives, should follow a careful analysis of the characteristics and benefits inherent in the implementation of each.

  • It is the law that injured workers must be paid compensation through occupational health and safety insurance. But sometimes, construction companies cover the compensation for an accident by themselves in order to conceal the fact of an accident. The reason for this concealment is that they wish to get a high mark in PQ. From the point of view of a subcontractor, another reason is to avoid any negative consequences in bids. According to interviewees, some workers, knowing the vulnerability of their employers in this area, demand unreasonable levels of compensation. This study examined the circumstances, influences and participants' perception of accidents on construction sites.

The Impact of the Kwang-yang Steel & Iron Company역s Location to the Regional Economy (광양제철소의 입지와 지역경제의 변화)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of the Kwang-yang Iron and Steel Co.(KSCO) on the industrialization of the economic structure in Kwang-yang area. The research used the shift-share analysis and regional growth rate differential analysis. KSCO has influenced this area by changing the economic structure from traditional agriculture and fisheries to the manufacturing industry. KSCO also has influenced the population of Kwang-yang area. The number of employees grew from 594 in 1981 to 29,865 in 1992. However, after 1992, employee numbers decreased to 23,399 in 1998. KSCO was constructed in the region of traditional agriculture and fisheries in 1981. The social and economic status of the Kwang-yang area has changed greatly due to the growth of KSCO and the corresponding influx in population. KSCO has developed the related industry and changed this area into a booming industrial city. The number of employee has rapidly increased. At the end of the year 2000, 17,240 people work for KSCO and 39,593(28.7%) of the total population of Kwang-yang are related to KSCO.

  • Construction market situation has been changed quickly in the 21st century. One is a large variety of information, the other is the development of IT technology among the rest of the change. Accordingly, it is very important that information is managed systematically and made good use of broadly in proportion to the increase of information volume. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a applicable classification system in the construction phase. First of all, the Construction Information Classification proposed by the government is studied to apply the actual work and to build a applicable construction information classification for construction project. A base of the applicable classification system is the Construction Information Classification, SMM and Materials classification(Public Procurement Service). The applicable classification system to control and manage the construction information is consist of the 4 types : Facility classification, Element classification, Work classification, Resource classification (Materials, Equipment, Labor).

  • Nowadays knowledge is begging to supplant the traditional factors of production and has become the most important new corporate and competitive resource. Many construction firms have been trying to perform Knowledge management, and implement Knowledge Management System. For successful KMS, a company should check the exiting infrastructures which includes resources and knowledge which an organization already may have in place, their culture, and processes and adopt the proper approach according to their own business requirement. This study defined the knowledge life-cycle and proposed management knowledge method of construction field with KMS.

An Analysis on Evaluation of Construction Technology Value for Supporting Mid-small Construction Enterprises Pursuing Technical Innovation (기술기반 중소건설업체 지원을 위한 건설기술가치 평가 연구)

  • Based on Income-approach, this study develops the evaluation model which reflects construction industry's traits. Using Income approach, we derive future income's present value and evaluates the technological value by contribution to future income. As there exist more random variables in construction technology than in standardized manufactured products, we cannot help relying on not only quantitative estimation method but also qualitative evaluation by technology and market experts when we estimates construction technology value. Also, conservative estimation is needed for discount rate and cash-flow estimation, because of high uncertainty in sales and profits in construction industry. In empirical analysis, we applied economic periods of duration and cash-flow based on the standard guideline, and analyzed discount rate and technology factor based on characteristics of construction industry. The discount rate is estimated to 15% because of risk-premium increase by conservative evaluation. Technology factor is estimated to 46.7%, because technological intensity is estimated to 72% by technological superiority. Such implications can be inferred. Firstly, we need to build a database to diversify categories for division of sectors by activity or industrial classification which is now categorized only by two sectors in standard guideline. Secondly, the roles of experts who participate in technology evaluation are important because of volatility of construction technology.
