Analysis of Factors Influencing the Construction Business Management Success (건설기업의 재무적/비재무적 요인이 경영성과에 미치는 영향분석)

  • This research outlined the factors influencing the business management success via analyzing a survey of business principles. The research process has been tested in comparison of both financial factors, which come out of objective data and non-financial factors so relevantly prioritized by combining these factors. In order to specify the factors, a check-list and analyzed essential features of category have been done with interviews and surveys. As consequently proceeding, the authors could deduce that non-financial but analytic factors such as business do-able, technician workability, compensation and benefits etc. play major roles in construction sector. The outcomes consider a construction business as fundamental human labor job as opposed to a manufacture business. On reasoning necessarily more objective research works to be done as developing this research's outcome, it is meaningful in suggesting the pivotal factors influencing the construction business management. Therefore, this research is expected to guide the direction to induce the improvement of business management to be done by further exemplary researches.

  • This study suggests strategies business strategies of specialty contractors by interaction analysis between business performance indicators and construction business indicators depending on operation types. To analyzing this research, a database was analyze for construction orders and business performance indicators for specialty contractors with KRW 7 billion from 1997 to 2010 yr. For organized management oriented specialty contractors, the amount of construction orders is directly affecting the corporate stability and therefore decreasing orders can negatively affect the owner's equity ratio. However, considering that the turnover ratio of total liabilities and net worth is affecting the owner's equity, an asset management plan needs to be established in a way to increase sales to the owner's equity secured with increase in construction orders. For a single leader oriented specialty contractors, the owner's equity ratio is also significantly affected by change in the amount of construction orders and some countermeasure is required. But, as liability ratio is affecting the amount of construction orders, some sort of countermeasures to decrease liability ratio is required.

  • Corporate Sustainability Management (CSM) is management approach and strategies that have grown in importance in recent years. and it is becoming increasingly important to organizations in every industry including the construction industry as well. It is important to establish and continuously manage and improve the strategies at the industrial and enterprise level and also to understand their trend. The most practical way to understand the overall sustainability management strategies and trend of construction companies is to analyze the sustainability management report of representative construction companies and to derive keywords for sustainability management, and then analyzed them using big data. The objective of the study is to analyze the trend of CSM strategies of Korean contractors in terms of key characteristics and implications by big data analysis employing keywords identified in the CSM reports of five major contractors in the Korean construction industry. Understanding the sustainable management strategy trend of construction companies has important significance in terms of being able to find out the issues that the construction industry and construction companies should focus on in order to pro-actively prepare for the future.

  • The purpose of this study Management Effectiveness Analysis of Construction Process Management. This study is to analyze the effects that process management has in outcome has been done by setting 5 elements of process management system as independent variables, making hypothesis, surveying and analyzing. The results of this analysis showed that process management operation level can be measured effectively through the application of Business Process Management System, and Process management strategy is found out to be contributed to improving strategy operation support, process management and IT connection technology. By seeing this research result, through optimally applying 'process management' in construction industry, process management can be used to improve the construction industry's potential competitiveness by improving effectiveness in works in the fields of strategy operation, process management, IT connection etc. So, by practically verifying the effectiveness of 'process management system', the purpose of this research is to come up with the necessity and the development of 'process management system' in construction industry.

Analysis of Dynamic Relationship between Changes in Domestic and Overseas Orders and Insolvency of Construction Companies (국내외 수주동향과 건설업체 부실화 간의 동태성 분석)

  • This study aims to analyze the relationship. The study applies EDF (Expected Default Frequency) as a variable that indicates management status of a construction company. To analyze changes in business structure of construction companies, the study refers to the amounts of domestic and overseas project orders as variables. The data was retrieved from TS2000 established by Korea Listed Companies Association (KLCA), Statistics Korea and International Contractors Association of Korea. The analysis period is between first quarter of 2001 and fourth quarter of 2010. The analysis results showed that as more domestic and overseas orders rolled in for domestic companies, their business conditions improved as the hypothesis suggested. However, the level of improvement varied. Further, when construction companies' business slowed down, the proportion of overseas projects tended to rise, while the ratio of domestic business decreased.

  • The object of this study is to present performance by applying six sigma quality management to a construction company. The research method involves to investigate and analyze data regarding six sigma projects in S construction company and a questionnaire survey from the personnel of the S construction company. The results of this study are as follows 1) S construction company utilized the six sigma quality management for 258 projects during the years of 2003 and 2004 and this bring the effect of cost reduction for quality. Moreover, before using the six sigma quality management, the average level of sigma in this company was around 2.8, after using this, the level increased to 3.6. Particularly, the construction management part, the level increased from 1.3 to 2.6.2) respondents recognize that quality management costs by applying six sigma is reduced. but there is only a little operational efficiency because it is In the early stage of applying six sigma quality management.

  • Knowledge has been one of the key factors influencing the companies' competitive power. Domestic construction industries have introduced Knowledge Management from 1990s around major construction companies. However, construction organizations have recently give a skeptical response about Knowledge Management. The existing Knowledge Management in construction industries does not satisfy the demands of workers. Furthermore it makes workers do double business. Therefore, this study investigates the workers' satisfaction of Knowledge Management, and becomes the preliminary study to suggest how to improve Construction Knowledge Management.

  • This study is to suggest specialty contractors with countermeasures to construction orders falling off, one of the construction business indicators for the construction industry, by analyzing the impact of dwindling construction orders to business performance indicators of specialty contractors as well as identifying inter-relationships between those performance indicators. To do this study, a data was analyze for construction business indicators and business performance indicators of specialty contractors providing heavy equipment. For specialty contractors that provide and utilize heavy equipment, the amount of construction orders is imposing a lasting impact to the turnover ratio of current assets. Therefore, it is determined that a business strategy needs to be established in order to secure current assets to respond to decrease in construction orders.

  • Foreign construction requires the globalization of management structure and role execution as a global manager. Therefore, this paper prospects the light and shadow of Korea construction business with the consideration about the foreign construction market and Korea's foreign construction. This paper interprets meaning about the foreign construction and analyzes the distinction, strategy, and competitive factor of foreign construction business. On the basis of interpretation and analysis, this paper suggests the innovative change of the domestic construction business manager and management system.
