Purpose: The Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between resourcefulness and the health promoting behavior of high school girls. Methods: The subjects of this study consisted of 117 high school girls on S girls' high school. The data was analyzed with the SPSS computer program that includes descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean age of subjects was 18.0 years old. The mean score of resourcefulness was 114.2. The most frequently practiced resourcefulness item was "By changing my way of thinking, I am often able to change my feelings about almost anything". The next most frequently practiced resourcefulness item was "My self-esteem increases when I am able to overcome a bad habit". There was no difference in the degree of resourcefulness with respect to the general characteristics. The mean score of health promoting behavior was 115.2. The group whose concerns over health was shown high health promoting behavior. The health education class group was shown high health promoting behavior. There was statistically significant positive correlation between resourcefulness and health promoting behavior of high school girls. Conclusion: The findings of this study provides promising evidence to construct further studies on the increasing health promoting behavior programs relating to high school girls. To increase health promoting behavior for high school girls, it is necessary to continue or possibly expand on existing health education programs.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of health literacy and unmet health care needs on health promotion behaviors among elderly people receiving visiting health care services at community health centers. Methods: The subjects of this study were 180 elderly people over 65 years old who were receiving health care services at public health center The subjects fully understood the purpose of this study and voluntarily agreed to participate. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test and Hierarchical Regression Analysis using the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: Hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing health promotion behaviors of the subjects. The results were as follows: presence of occupation (β=.26, p<.001), social activity status (β=.26, p=.001), and health literacy (β=.16, p=.023). Conclusion: Therefore, in order to improve health promotion behaviors, it is necessary for visiting nurses to administer health education and programs by considering the level of health care understanding.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the actor and partner effects of self-efficacy, marital adjustment, and social support on the health promoting behavior of Korean pregnant couples. Methods: Participants were 132 couples who met the eligibility criteria. Data were collected from June to November, 2016 at a community health center. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Model was used for analyzing the actor and partner effects of self-efficacy, marital adjustment, and social support on health promoting behavior. Results: The fitness indices for the model were GFI=0.90, NFI=0.92, CFI=0.91, TLI=0.90, and RMSEA=0.04, which satisfied the criteria. Self-efficacy had actor and partner effect on health promoting behavior of wives, but had only actor effect of on health promoting behavior of husbands. Marital adjustment showed actor and partner effect on the health promoting behavior of pregnant couples. Social support only had an actor effect on the health promoting behavior of wives. And, marital adjustment and social support had a mutual effect. Conclusion: This study indicates that the partner involvement is needed to develop health promotion programs for pregnant couples.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate the factors associated with a mothers' caring behavior in health promotion of children with disabilities. Methods: Data were collected by using self-reported questionnaires from 371 mothers who had a 3-12 year old child with a disability from July 14 to 31, 2008. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis with the SPSS program. Results: There were significant differences on the mothers' caring behavior according to children's negative and hyperactive behavior, mothers' perceived burden, parenting efficacy, and social support. Children's characteristics explained 5.1% of mothers' caring behavior. The power of explanation ($R^2$) was 16.6% by adding mother's characteristics including mother's job, burden, parenting efficacy, satisfaction and stigma, and increased to 23.5% by adding social support. Conclusion: These results showed that mothers' caring behavior for their children's health promotion could be influenced by children's behavior problems, mothers' perception of burden, parenting efficacy, and social support. It suggests that health promotion programs for children with disabilities should focus on lowering subjective burden and enhancing mother's efficacy as a type of social support.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the job stress, health promotion behaviors and quality of life between public health officials and general administration officials. Methods: Subjects were 60 public health officials and 71 general administration officials in G-City in Korea. Data were collected from January 25 to February 5, 2016 through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: Job stress (t=4.060 p<.001) and quality of life (t=3.963, p=.025) were significantly different between public health officials and general administration ones, while health promotion behaviors were not significantly different between these two official groups (t=0.394, p=.606) Conclusion: Results of this study suggested that it was necessary for public health officials to develop intervention program aimed at reducing job stress. Also, it would be effective to focus on improving health promotion behaviors and quality of life for them.
Purpose: This study was to identify the correlations among climacteric symptoms, knowledge of menopause and health promoting behavior in middle-aged women. Method: 1.360 women between 40-60 years of age living in Incheon, were asked to complete a questionnaire on their health. The data was collected between October 10th and October 30th, 2002. The data was analyzed using T-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients with SPSS/pc program. Result: The variables significantly affecting climacteric symptoms, knowledge of menopause and health promoting behavior were education, perceived health status and family health - problems. The relationship between knowledge of menopause and health promoting behavior was statistically significant with a positive correlation. Conclusion: The knowledge of menopause by middle aged women was in positively correlated with health promoting behavior. Therefore, based on this study, we plan to develop a health education program to promote knowledge of menopause and health promoting behavior.
Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of mood state, resourcefulness, and health perception on health promoting behavior of hospital nurses. Methods: Convenience sampling was conducted for nurses working at three University hospital and 336 nurses were selected. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Results: The results of the analysis showed that the score for nurses' mood state was $41.76{\pm}18.90$; for resourcefulness, $11.30{\pm}20.63$; for health perception, $3.32{\pm}.77$, and for health promoting behavior, $111.55{\pm}17.76$. Mood state, resourcefulness, and health perception were significantly correlated with health promoting behavior. The overall explanatory power of the effects of nurses' mood state, resourcefulness, and health perception on health promoting behavior was 27.8%. Conclusion: Study results indicate that better mood state, higher resourcefulness, and higher health perception result in more health promoting behavior.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of self-esteem, family functioning, social support on health-promoting behavior and to investigate the factors affecting health-promoting behavior in adolescents. Method: The participants in this study were 181 students of high school located in Seoul and Daejon. The data were collected from November 1 to December 18, 2004. The date were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test or ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Result: Health-promoting behavior in adolescents was significantly different according to sex, grade, their father's school career and economic status. There was a Significant correlation between health-promoting behavior, self-esteem, family functioning and social support. Social support was a predictor of health-promoting behavior and accounted for 32% of the variance. Family functioning and self-esteem were also predictors of health-promoting behavior and accounted for 12% of the variance. Conclusions: This findings suggest that the program and strategies that increase health-promoting behavior by promoting self-esteem, family functioning and social support should be developed in adolescents.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the needs for developing a health promotion program for the elderly, and to compare the health promoting behaviors and perceived health status between high and low income elderly. Method: The data were collected from 80 high) income elderly and 84 low income elderly through face to face interviews. The instruments used in) this study were the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II) and Perceived Health Status. Results: 1) The total score of the HPLP for the elderly was 2.29. In the subscales, the highest degree of performance' nutrition', following 'stress management', 'spiritual growth' and 'health responsibility' and the lowest degree of performance was 'physical activity'. 2) The high income level elderly had significantly higher total HPLP scores than the low income level elderly. The biggest difference was found in 'physical activity' between high) and low) income elderly. 3) The mean score of perceived health status was 8.21. The high) income elderly had significantly higher perceived health status than the low income elderly. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that it is necessary to develop a health promotion program with reinforced physical activity, health responsibility for the elderly in Korea. In particular physical activity need to be increased for the low income elderly. The low income elderly need to have positive thinking for perceived health status.
The purpose of this study was to identify the burden, health promotion behavior and health status and to describe the relationship of the burden, health promotion behavior and health status of the family caregivers of intensive care unit patients. Method: The subjects were 48 family caregivers of ICU patients in a University Hospital. Data were collected between June, 1 and July, 31, 2000 using structured questionnaires. Research tools used were Suh and Oh's Burden Scale, Revised Walker, Sechrist, & Pender's HPLP(1987) ; Revised Nam's Health State Scale(1965). Result: The mean score of burden of family caregiver was 3.01(full score was 5). The mean score of health promotion behavior of family caregiver was 2.52(full score was 4). And the mean score of health status of family caregiver was 0.68(full score was 1.00). The score of psychological health state was a little higher than the physiological one. In correlational analysis, the burden and the health status of caregivers were reversely correlated . The correlation between the burden and the health promotion behavior, and the health behavior and health status were not significant. Conclusion: The more burden caregivers of ICU patients felt, the worse their health status. So nurses need to understand the family caregiver's burden and apply nursing care that can reduce burden, in order to improve the health status of family caregivers.
