Fish species composition in eelgrass bed of Geoje island, Korea was determined using monthly samples collected by a surf net from August 2009 to July 2010. A total of 31 species, 1,387 individuals and 4,776.5 g of fishes were collected. The dominant species were Rudarius ercodes, Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Ditrema temminckii, Takifugu niphobles, Hypodytes rubripinnis, Chaenogobius annularis, Aulichthys japonicus, Syngnathus schlegeli, Pterogobius elapoides which accounted for 89.3% of total number of individuals of fish collected. Eelgrass biomass showed a peak in August (DW 154 g/$m^2$), low values in November (DW 31 g/$m^2$) to February (DW 41 g/$m^2$), and started growing from May (DW 78 g/$m^2$). The biomass of fish increased by the catch of a large number of Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Chaenogobius annularis, Pterogobius elapoides, Rudarius ercodes and Pseudoblennius percoides in May and September when the eelgrass grew fast. Meanwhile, Syngnathus schlegeli, Urocampus nanus and Aulichthys japonicus were collected year-round with no clear relationship to the biomass of eelgrass bed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure of the vegetation on the trail of Hallyeo Marine & Coastal National Park. Twenty six $10{\times}10m$ plots were established along the Jisimdo trail. The vascular plants were surveyed from March 2011 to October 2011. Camellia japonica was a major woody species in the study area, while Pinus thunbergii and Zanthoxylum ailanthoides were co-dominant tree species. There were positive correlations between Distylium racemosum and Ligustrum japonicum var. japonicum; Callicarpa japonica var. luxurians and Eurya japonical; Actinodaphne lancifolia and Cinnamomum japonicum; A. lancifolia and Machilus japonica. Positive correlations were found between A. lancifolia and P. thunbergii; Z. ailanthoides and C. japonicum. Species diversity (H') was ranged from 0.51907 to 1.0217, and was relatively low compared to those of same national parks. 10 populations of Milletia japonica which are rare and endemic species, were recorded from the list of rare and endemic species of the Ministry of Environment near by ammo dumps, this study recommend the long term habitat monitoring of the species.
The purpose of this paper is aimed at identifying the planting condition of greenbelt axis covering forests located at Sinhyeon-eup, Geoje-si and also establishing improvement plans for the ecological organization. The study was executed with buffer green space designed to mitigate noise, which is located at a halfway point linking Mt. Yukkyo(altitude of 50m) and Mt. Jungmae(altitude of 131m). The number of the biotope patterns was classified into 17 in total: the two are urbanized districts such as a townified district and streets and another 15 are greenbelts and open space such as forest biotope, inland water biotope, and landscaping tree plantations biotope. According to the analysis of biotope types, it was estimated that the making use of already established buffer greens as a linking medium with a foothold of Mt. Yukkyo and Jungmae, whose natural eco-system is well suited for habitation of living organism, is the one and only way to the influx of living organism into the downtown area. The green coverage rate of the base green area, sub-base green area and linkage green area was 160.29%, 128.37% and 44.37% respectively; the green capacity coefficient(i.e. GVZ[$Gr{\ddot{u}}nvolumezahl$]) for base green area, sub-base green area and linkage green area was $4.04m^3/m^2,\;3.95m^3/m^2\;and\;0.65m^3/m^2$ respectively. The base green area has constituted multi-layered vegetation structure and thus played a role as habitats for living organism and supply centre of species, whereas the sub-base green area has destroyed lower layer vegetation, and the linkage green area was in bad shape due to the lack of planting volume and damage of the shrub layer. Accordingly, this research paper intended to suggest detailed implementation plans for the improvement in landscape for city dwellers' use and relaxation; in other words, this paper focused on ecological build-up for the Influx of wild birds into the downtown area for the promotion of bio-diversity of species through the linkage of base green areas and the fostering of nature observing trails for citizens as well as the connecting of green areas through the build-up of roadside greens to make these green areas to be efficiently used as corridors for the influx of wild birds and bio-organism habitation and for citizens' using space.
To understand the vegetation structure in the ridgeline area of Nakdong-jeongmaek, six primary areas in Nakdong-jeongmaek were selected and their vegetation distribution was surveyed considering the environmental conditions and artificial influences. According to the results of community classification based on TWINSPAN, the vegetation in the surveyed region was categorized into 9 groups: Betula costata-Quercus mongolica community, Q. mongolica community, Pinus densiflora-Q. mongolica community, P. densiflora community, Deciduous oaks-P. densiflora community, Deciduous oaks community, P. thunbergii community, P. koraiensis-P. rigida community, and Chamaecyparis obtusa-Alnus firma community. In Baekbyeongsan(Mt.) located in Taebaek-si of Gangwon-do, Betula costata-Quercus mongolica community was found, reflecting the environmental characteristics of northern temperate climate. P. thunbergii community appeared in Gudeoksan(Mt.) of Busan metropolitan city, which is near the coast. Since Gudeoksan(Mt.) is near to the downtown and its altitude above the sea is relatively low, people visit the area often. Therefore, C. obtusa and P. thunbergii have been planted for producing forest trees and implementing anti-erosion afforestation. In the other primary survey areas, Q. mongolica-dominant communities, P. densiflora-dominant communities, and deciduous oak-dominant communities, which are representative forest vegetation types of Jeongmaeks in South Korea, were mainly distributed, showing no significant difference compared to the forest vegetation types of other Jeongmaeks. Since the Nakdong-jeongmaek from south to north, it shows clear characteristics of vegetation changes between the northern temperate climate and the warm temperate climate of the south.

This study was conducted to investigate spatio-temporal changes in macrobenthic community structure and benthic environmental conditions in Geoje-Hansa Bay, which is the greatest oyster producing site in Korea. Field survey for benthic environment and macrobenthos was seasonally carried out at 15 stations covering oyster farming sites and non-farming sites from February to November, 2008. The grain size of surface sediments was dominated by very fine silt with the mean phi of about $9\;{\Phi}$ and TOC was 1.9% on average. Mean dissolved oxygen content was 8.1 mg/L and lowest in August corresponding to the 2nd degree in seawater quality criteria. Total species number was 351 and mean density was $3,675\;ind./m^2$, both of which were dominated by polychaete worms. Spatio-temporal variation in above two biological variables was great with higher values seasonally in spring and spatially in channels rather than inner bay. Dominant species were Lumbrineris longifolia (21.3%), Aphelochaeta monilaris (17.8%) and Ericthonius pugnax(6.1%), all of which are typical species of organically enriched area. From the multivariate analyses, the whole macrobenthic community was distinguished into two groups of channel and inner bay group. Spatio-temporal changes of macrobenthic community in Geoje-Hansan Bay were related to those of TOC and acid volatile sulfide (AVS). Our results showed that Geoje-Hansan Bay should be intermediately affected by organic pollution, and that such organic enrichment was more remarkable at farming stations in the inner bay.
Hydra and hydromedusa specimens were collected from the Jisanchon Stream in Kyonggi-do (Pyongtaek-shi) and the coasts of Geojedo Island (Jangmok-ri), Korea during the period July 1999-June 2000. They were identified into Hydra magnipapillata Ito, 1947 (Hydridae, Athecatae) and Phialidium folleatum (McCrady, 1857) (Campanulariidae, Leptomedusae) respectively. H. magnipapillata is blackish or light brown color, its cylinder-shaped trunk reaches to 20 ㎜ long and 0.5-0.6 ㎜ wide in fully extended, and has generally 5-6 highly delicate long tentacles. P. folleatum is a small marine hydromedusa, below 5 ㎜ wide and has a minute statocyst between successive tentacles.
When caverns are excavated, it is very important to understand the distribution and charateristics of geological structures because the structures have an significant effect on grouting, rock reinforcement, and groundwater flow, etc. The main water bearing fractures have an orientation of N50~60W and these fractures are known as tension fractures. Their orientation coincides with a long elliptical axis ofpumping test, and they cross the tension fractures of N10~30E. They have typical fracture systems ofrhombic type in this area.

This study was carried out to investigate the occurrence and distribution of ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant weeds and to estimate the appeared areas of resistant weeds in the paddy fields of Gyeongnam province of Korea in 2017 and 2018 using a soil assay method. Compared with the 2012 survey, this study showed that the infested ratio of ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant weeds increased from 1.0% to 66.8% and the infested area increased from 876 ha to 49,008 ha. The infested area of ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant weeds was estimated in Ulsan-si (8.4%), Hapcheon-gun (8.3%), Haman-gun (7.9%), Goseong-gun (7.9%), Hadong-gun (7.3%), Jinju-si (7.2%), Changnyeong-gun (7.0%), Gimhae-si (6.4%), Miryang-si (5.5%), Busan-si (4.9%), Uiryeong-gun (4.6%), Namhae-gun (4.3%), Geochang-gun (4.2%), Changwon-si (3.8%), Geoje-si (2.9%), Yangsan-si (1.8%), Sancheong-gun (0.9%) and Tongyeong-si (0.4%), and the herbicide resistant weeds was not occurred in Hamyang-gun. The most dominant ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant weeds in paddy fields were Monochoria vaginalis, followed by Echinochloa oryzicola, Lindernia dubia, Scirpus juncoides, Ludwigia prostrata, Cyperus difformis, Sagittaria trifolia and Rotala indica. ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant M. vaginalis, L. dubia, and E. oryzoides occurred throughout Gyeongnam province, and ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant S. trifolia and R. indica were only found in Gimhae-si. Therefore, these results will be utilized to estimate population dynamics of ALS inhibiting herbicide-resistant weeds and provide proper management practices in the paddy fields of Gyeongnam province.
We have studied general orientational characteristics of microcracks distributed in Bulgugsa Granites of southwestern Gyeongsang Basin. Microcracks of 131 sets, which were developed on horizontal surfaces of II rock samples collected from Sacheon-Gosung, Geoje-si and Namhae-gun areas, were distinguished by image processing. Then, 45 sets with a distinct linear array on image were sorted out. These microcracks can be comparable with vertical grain planes. Orientations of these microcracks were compared with those of vertical rift and grain planes developed in Cretaceous and Jurassic granites of Korea. In the distribution chart, the agreement of the distribution pattern between microcracks of 45 sets and above vertical planes suggests that microcrack systems developed all over the study area also occur regionally in Cretaceous and Jurassic granites of Korea. Whole domain of the directional angle-frequency chart can be divided into 20 domains in terms of the phases of the distribution of microcracks. Meanwhile, 18 domains from 45 sets of microcracks were compared with the maximum principal stress orientations suggested from previous studies. The majority of maximum principal stress orientations pertain to domain $1{\sim}2$, $5{\sim}6$, $11{\sim}15$, $17{\sim}18$ and $19{\sim}20$, and these domains are coincident with the orientation of the 1st and 2nd-frequency orders represented in a rose diagram for 45 sets of microcracks. Representative orientations of open microcrack reflect the maximum principal stress orientations suggested in previous studies.
