Implementation of a Sensor Node with Convolutional Channel Coding Capability (컨벌루션 채널코딩 기능의 센서노드 구현)

  • Sensor nodes are used for monitoring and collecting the environmental data via wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network with various sensor nodes draws attention as a key technology in ubiquitous computing. Sensor nodes has very small memory capacity and limited power resource. Thus, it is essential to have energy efficient strategy for the sensor nodes. Since the sensor nodes are operating on the same frequency bands with ISM frequency bands, the interference by the devices operating on the ISM band degrades the quality of communication integrity. In this paper, the convolutional code is proposed instead of ARQ for the error control for the sensor network. The proposed convolutional code was implemented and the BER performance is measured. For the fixed transmitting powers of -19.2 dBm and -25dBm, the BER with various communication distances are measured. The packet loss rate and the retransmission rate are calculated from the measured BER. It is shown that the porposed method obtained about 9~12% and 12-19% reduction in retransmission rate for -19.2 dBm and -25 dBm respectively.

Impacts of Combined Hydrogeological and Chemical Heterogeneities on the Transport of Leachate through Landfill Sites (수리지질학적, 화학적 특성의 복합 불균질성이 매립지반 내 침출수 이동에 미치는 영향)

  • The transport of landfill leachate in the subsurface formations of unlined landfill sites is considered. The impacts of hydrogeological and chemical heterogeneities on the leachate transport are assessed by examining the results from a series of Monte-Carlo simulations. The landfill system simulated in this study is hypothetically represented with three levels of spatial variability for the hydrogeological and chemical parameter; (1) homogeneous hydraulic conductivity (K) and distribution coefficient ($K_d$), (2) K heterogeneity only, and (3) combined heterogeneities of K and $K_d$. To calculate the transport of leachate through negatively-correlated random hypothetical K-$K_d$ fields generated using geostatistical input parameters, a saturated flow model is linked with a contaminant transport model. Point statistic values such as mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation of the concentration were obtained from 100 Monte-Carlo trials. Results of point statistics show that the heterogeneities of K and $K_d$ in the landfill site prove to be an important parameter in controlling leachate concentrations. Consideration of combined K and $K_d$ heterogeneities results in enhancing the variability of contaminant transport. The variability in the leachate concentration for different realizations also increases as the distance between source and monitoring well increase.

  • 배추 생산에 있어서 수확, 운반, 적재 작업은 가장 노동이 집약적으로 요구되는 작업들이다. 최근, 여러 종류의 양배추 수화기가 일본과 유럽에서 개발되었다. 하지만 국내에서 재래되는 배추는 크기와 형태에 있어 양배추와는 달라 기 개발 기종의 도입이 어렵다. 또한 수확작업의 생력화 효과는 운반, 정선, 적재 작업과 밀접하게 연계되어 있어 출하시의 작업체계를 고려하여 수화에 따른 수집.반출 시스템을 개발하여야 한다. 수확시의 배추는 중량이 25~45 N 정도로 다 작물에 비하여 무겁고 부피가 크기 때문에 수확작업의 기계화를 위해서는 수확장치와 더불어 연속적으로 수확되는 배추를 적절하게 수집하여 적재하고 반출하는 시스템의 개발이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 수확작업의 생력화 효과를 높이고 생력화 시스템 비용의 절감을 목적으로 작업자 1인에 의해 작업할 수 있는 반자동 형태의 트랙터 부착형 배추 수집, 적재, 반출시스템 시작기를 개발하였다. 시작기는 배추 이송장치, 적재장치, 팔렛 및 반출장치의 3개 부분과 PLC를 이용한 주 제어기로 구성하였다. 배추 수집용기로는 대략 70개의 배추를 담을 수 있는 크기가 1,050 mm$\times$1.050mm$\times$1,000mm 인 접이식 메쉬 팔렛을 사용하였으며 하단부에 롤러 안내판을 부착하여 적재한 팔렛의 배출이 용이하도록 하였다. 팔렛을 제외한 전체 시작기의 중량은 235 N 이였으며 크기는 3,940mm$\times$520mm$\times$1,630mm 이었다. 본 연구는 수확장치의 기능 및 생력화 효과를 극대화하고 배추의 손상정도를 최소화하는 시스템을 구성하고자 하였다. 이송장치는 트랙터 부착시 횡공간 점유율을 최소화하도록 하였으며 적재장치는 적재시 배추의 손상을 줄이고 배추가 놓이는 자세를 능동적으로 조절할 수 있도록 주름관을 부착하였다. 시작기의 실내시험 결과 이송장치는 0.18 m/s~0.36 m/s의 범위에서 적재장치는 0.4 m/s~2.4 m/s 범위에서 안정적으로 구동하였으며 두 장치를 동시에 구동하여 시험한 결과 이송장치는 0.26 m/s~0.36 m/s, 그리고 적재장치는 0.9 m/s~2.4 m/s 에서 적정하게 안정적으로 구동하였다. 적재장치의 성능에 있어서 1~3단 적재시에는 주름관을 이용하여 적재하고 4~5단 적재시에는 자유낙하에 의한 적재를 수행할 경우 인력에 의한 적재와 거의 동등한 적재량을 보였으며 손상정도는 거의 무시할 정도였다. 트랙터가 0.3 m/s로 주행하는 경우 노지로부터 배추를 뽑아 이송하는 뽑기벨트의 적정속도가 0.46 m/s인 점을 고려할 때 배추 이송 컨베이어는 0.34 m/s 이상의 속도를 유지할 필요가 있었으며 적재 컨베이어는 2 m/s~2.4 m/s의 속도에서 안정적으로 작동하였다. 배추의 주간 거리가 대략 30~40 cm 인 점을 감안하면 적재장치는 초당 1개의 적재성능을 보였다. 실내에서 수행한 시스템의 성능은 배추에 큰 손상없이 전반적으로 성공적으로 구동하였으나 향후 노면이 고르지 못한 포장에서의 성능 시험이 필요하다.

Efficient Multi-Step k-NN Search Methods Using Multidimensional Indexes in Large Databases (대용량 데이터베이스에서 다차원 인덱스를 사용한 효율적인 다단계 k-NN 검색)

  • In this paper, we address the problem of improving the performance of multi-step k-NN search using multi-dimensional indexes. Due to information loss by lower-dimensional transformations, existing multi-step k-NN search solutions produce a large tolerance (i.e., a large search range), and thus, incur a large number of candidates, which are retrieved by a range query. Those many candidates lead to overwhelming I/O and CPU overheads in the postprocessing step. To overcome this problem, we propose two efficient solutions that improve the search performance by reducing the tolerance of a range query, and accordingly, reducing the number of candidates. First, we propose a tolerance reduction-based (approximate) solution that forcibly decreases the tolerance, which is determined by a k-NN query on the index, by the average ratio of high- and low-dimensional distances. Second, we propose a coefficient control-based (exact) solution that uses c k instead of k in a k-NN query to obtain a tigher tolerance and performs a range query using this tigher tolerance. Experimental results show that the proposed solutions significantly reduce the number of candidates, and accordingly, improve the search performance in comparison with the existing multi-step k-NN solution.

Development and Verification of the Automated Cow-Feeding System Driven by AGV (무인이송로봇기반 자동 소사료 공급 시스템 개발 및 검증)

  • This paper presents an automated cow-feeding system based on an AGV and screw conveyor for domestic livestock farms, which are becoming larger and more commercialized. The system includes a hopper module for loading pellet-type mixed feed at the top of the system, a transfer module mounted with a screw conveyor to transfer feed from the hopper module to the outlet module, an outlet module composed of belt conveyors, and an electromagnetic guided driving-type AGV. The weight of the loaded feed is measured by a load cell located under the transfer module. The system reads the feed discharge information stored in RFID tags installed in each cowshed cell, and a predetermined amount of feed is discharged while the AGV is moving. A cow-feed test system was constructed to determine the design parameters of the screw conveyor in the transfer module that determine the feeding capacity. These parameters include the screw's outer diameter, the screw shaft outer diameter, and screw pitch. The parameters were applied to the finalized cow-feed system construction. A DSP-based main controller and cow-feeding algorithm for different scenarios were also developed to control the system. Experimental results confirmed that the system could supply a total of 21 kg of feed uniformly at 420 g/s for a cowshed cell which has 7 cows. The driving distance was 5 m and the speed was 0.1 m/s. Thus, the proposed system could be applied to standardized domestic livestock farms.

Lightweight Authentication Scheme for Secure Data Transmission in Terrestrial CNPC Links (지상 CNPC 링크에서 안전한 데이터 전송을 위한 경량화된 인증기법)

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) that are piloted without human pilots can be commanded remotely via frequencies or perform pre-inputted missions. UAVs have been mainly used for military purposes, but due to the development of ICT technology, they are now widely used in the private sector. Teal Group's 2014 World UAV Forecast predicts that the UAV market will grow by 10% annually over the next decade, reaching $ 12.5 billion by 2023. However, because UAVs are primarily remotely controlled, if a malicious user accesses a remotely controlled UAV, it could seriously infringe privacy and cause financial loss or even loss of life. To solve this problem, a secure channel must be established through mutual authentication between the UAV and the control center. However, existing security techniques require a lot of computing resources and power, and because communication distances, infrastructure, and data flow are different from UAV networks, it is unsuitable for application in UAV environments. To resolve this problem, the study presents a lightweight UAV authentication method based on Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) that requires less computing resources in the ground Control and Non-Payload Communication (CNPC) environment, where recently, technology standardization is actively under progress.

Effect of UV-LED Irradiation on Respiration and Ethylene Production of Cherry Tomatoes (방울토마토의 호흡 및 에틸렌 발생에 미치는 자외선 LED의 효과)

  • UV light irradiation is known to give beneficial effects on fresh produce preservation. A container system equipped with UV-LED was fabricated for storing cherry tomatoes under computer-controlled conditions of intermittent on-off cycles (1 hour on/1 hour off). Wavelength (365 and 405 nm) and physical location of the LED (2 and 5 cm above fruit) were studied as variables affecting the respiration, ethylene production and quality preservation of the fruits at 10 and $20^{\circ}C$. 365 nm wavelength gave much higher radiation intensity than 405 nm, and intensity on surface decreased in inverse proportion to square of distance from LED. When compared to non-irradiated control, UV-LED irradiation decreased the respiration by 5-10% at $10^{\circ}C$ while there was no obvious effect at $20^{\circ}C$. Ethylene production was reduced when the fruits were placed at 5 cm distance, while there was no significant difference from control at 2 cm location. The reduction of ethylene production at 5 cm was more pronounced at $20^{\circ}C$. UV-LED irradiation was shown to have delayed increase or lower concentration in carotenoids compared to control treatment. Any negative effect of UV-LED irradiation on ascorbic acid content and firmness was not observed.

Rheological Characteristics and Debris Flow Simulation of Waste Materials (광산폐석의 유변학적 특성과 토석류 흐름특성 분석)

  • Abandoned mines often cause environmental problems, such as alteration of landscape, metal contamination, and landslides due to a heavy rainfall. Geotechnical and rheological tests were performed on waste materials corrected from Imgi waste rock dump, located in Busan Metropolitan City. Debris flow mobility was examined with the help of 1-D BING model which was often simulated in both subaerial and subaqueous environments. To determine flow curve, we used a vane-penetrated rheometer. The shear stress (${\tau}$)-shear rate (${\dot{\gamma}}$) and viscosity(${\eta}$)-shear rate (${\dot{\gamma}}$) relationships were plotted using a shear stress control mode. Well-known rheological models, such as Bingham, bilinear, Herschel-Bulkley, Power-law, and Papanastasiou concepts, were compared to the rheological data. From the test results, we found that the tested waste materials exhibited a typical shear shinning behavior in ${\tau}$-${\dot{\gamma}}$ and and ${\eta}$-${\dot{\gamma}}$ plots, but the Bingham behavior is often observed when the water contents increased. The test results show that experimental data are in good agreement with rheological models in the post-failure stage during shearing. Based on the rheological properties (i.e., Bingham yield stress and viscosity as a function of the volumetric concentration of sediment) of waste materials, initial flowing shape (5 m, 10 m, and 15 m) and yield stress (100 Pa, 200 Pa, 300 Pa, and 500 Pa) were input to simulate the debris flow motion. As a result, the runout distance and front velocity of debris flow are in inverse propositional to yield stress. In particular, when the yield stress is less than 500 Pa, most of failed masses can flow into the stream, resulting in a water contamination.

Design of C-Band Frequency Up-Converter in Communication System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (무인 항공기의 통신 시스템에 사용되는 C-대역 주파수 상향 변환기 설계)

  • In this paper, we present design, fabrication, and measured results for a frequency upconverter for a wireless communication system of UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). The specifications of such wireless communication system requires the special features of maximum range of communication as well as deployment in UAV and repairing. The frequency upconverter operating at $5.25{\sim}5.45\;GHz$ in C-band was designed and fabricated considering such special features. The AGC function was included because the required output power should be constant for optimal system operation. The fabricated upconverter showed a constant output power of $+2{\pm}0.5\;dBm$ for the $-15{\sim}-10\;dBm$ input. Spuriouses were below -60 dBc and the adjacent leakage power was below -40 dBc. In addition, LO sources in the upconverter was implemented using the frequency synthesizer with step 1 MHz. This is for the application to the situation where multiple UAVs employed and the possible change of the permitted frequency band. The synthesizer showed a phase noise of -100 dBc/Hz at the 100 kHz frequency offset.

  • In this paper, we present two types of vision algorithm that mobile robot has CCD camera. for obstacle avoidance. This is simple algorithm that compare with grey level from input images. Also, The mobile robot depend on image processing and move command from PC host. we has been studied self controlled mobile robot system with CCD camera. This system consists of digital signal processor, step motor, RF module and CCD camera. we used wireless RF module for movable command transmitting between robot and host PC. This robot go straight until recognize obstacle from input image that preprocessed by edge detection, converting, thresholding. And it could avoid the obstacle when recognize obstacle by line histogram intensity. Host PC measurement wave from various line histogram each 20 pixel. This histogram is (x, y) value of pixel. For example, first line histogram intensity wave from (0, 0) to (0, 197) and last wave from (280, 0) to (2n, 197. So we find uniform wave region and nonuniform wave region. The period of uniform wave is obstacle region. we guess that algorithm is very useful about moving robot for obstacle avoidance.
