  • This study evaluates the economic values for the several first precipitation events during Changma period. The selected three years are 2015, 2019, and 2020, where average precipitation amounts across the 58 Korean stations are 12.8, 20.1 and 13.3 mm, respectively. The four categories are used to assess the values including air quality improvement, water resource acquisition/accumulation, drought mitigation, and forest fire prevention/recovery. Economic values for these three years are estimated 50~150 billion won. Among the four factors considered, the effect of air quality improvement is most highly valued, amounting to 70 to 90% of the total economic values. Wet decomposition of air pollution (PM10, NO2, CO, and SO2) is the primary reason. The next valuable element is water resource acquisition, which is estimated 9~15 billion won. Effects of drought mitigation and fire prevention are deemed relatively small. This study is the first to estimate the value of the precipitation events during Changma onset. An analysis for more Changma years will be performed to achieve a more reliable estimate.

  • Currently, composite construction of prestressed Precast Concrete (PC) and Cast-In-Place (CIP) concrete with different concrete strengths are frequently used in the modular construction. However, current design codes do not clearly define shear design methods for such composite beams. In this present study, simply supported prestressed PC-CIP composite beams without vertical shear reinforcement or only with horizontal shear reinforcement were tested to evaluate the effect of prestressing on the shear strength and the shear design method for such composite members. The test variables were the area ratio of PC and CIP concretes, prestressing force, shear span-to-depth ratio, and shear reinforcement ratio. The results showed that the shear strength was increased by the increase of prestressing force and prestressed PC area, and the decrease of shear span-to-depth ratio.

  • UHPC which was a structural material exhibiting very remarkable mechanical performances with compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength rising up to 200MPa, 15MPa and 35MPa, respectively. In addition, this material presents exceptional durability regard to the very low diffusion and penetration speeds of noxious substances like chloride ions This study was carry out to evaluate the effect of flexural behavior according to steel fiber type in UHPC. The results is showing that the steel fiber type have remarkable influence flexural strength Addition to it is showing that steel fiber type made little difference in the first cracking strength but considerable gap in the ultimate flexural strength to use the steel fiber of wave type.

  • Many researchers have reported that adding steel fiber to concrete improved its tensile and flexural strength significantly, but relatively few studies have been made on the compressive behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete. It is still less in case of high strength steel fiber-reinforced cementitious composites(SFRC). The main objective of this research is to examine the effect of adding steel fiber on the compressive strength of high strength SFRC using fiber reinforcing index(RI, $V_f(I_f/d_f)$). It was found from the study that compressive strength was noticeably increased in proportion to RI. In conclusion, the relationship between Reinforcing Index(RI) and compressive strength in case of high strength steel fiber-reinforced cementitious composites was suggested.

  • This paper presented four shear test results from experimental tests of two large prestressed concrete beams cast with high strength concrete. In particular, this experiment investigated the effects of draped strands on shear behavior of these full-scaled beams. This study indicated that the use of draped strands increased the ultimate shear capacity as well as the web-shear cracking load. The test results also showed that draped strands reduced strand slip at ends of beams, which represented that these strands were effective to relieve the anchorage stresses. The test results were compared to predictions by two major codes; ACI 318-02 Building Code and AASHTO LRFD(2002). The shear design provisions in these codes provided conservative results on the shear strengths of all test specimens with reasonable margins of safety, and these provisions were particularly more conservative for test specimens having draped strands.

  • In this study, pull-out tests were performed to investigate the effects of stirrup spacing, rebar diameter, and corrosion rate on bond strength of deformed bars in reinforced concrete. Twelve pull-out specimens with different stirrup spacing, rebar diameter, and corrosion rate were prepared following the RILEM RC6 guidelines. The test results showed that the bond strength of specimens with stirrups increased when the corrosion rate was less than 3%, whereas it decreased when the corrosion rate was more than 3%. On the other hand, the bond strength of specimens without stirrups decreased as the corrosion rate increased. The effect of rebar diameter was less significant compared to those of stirrup spacing and corrosion rate. A bond strength model for pull-out specimens was proposed considering stirrup ratio and corrosion rate, and the model showed the lowest error among the previous models.
