The Effects of Hedonic Aspect of Consumer Involvement on Purchase Behavior (소비자관여의 감성적 측면이 구매행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The level and motivational basis of consumer involvement have been recognized as having important effects on purchase behavior. To explore the importance of hedonic aspects of involvement upon consumer purchase behavior, survey data on involvement degree and type concerning 8 product classes from 388 respondents was analyzed. Major findings of this study are summarized as follow. First of all, hedonic factor is evidenced as an important component of consumer involvement. In addition, hedonic dimension of involvement is proved to have significant effects on consumer purchase behavior in general. Secondly, analysis of the difference in behavioral tendencies between purchasing product with hedonic value(coffee) and utilitarian motive(washing machine) shows that consumers have relatively high in degree of brand differentiation, brand commitment, product knowledge in purchasing product with hedonic value. This means that hedonic aspect of product and thus hedonic involvement has not less important in predicting consumer behavior. Finally, several interactive effects, which suppot to and conflict against the previous research findings, between level and type of involvement upon purchase behaviors are detacted. This implies that hedonically induced involvement has moderating roles in the effects of consumer involvement on purchase behavior.

  • The objective of this study is to find out whether policy acceptance(attitude formation and intention of action) is affected by the message appeals(rational vs. emotional) when policy PR messages emphasize prosociality, and by various factors such as trust in government, involvement, and demographic factors as moderating variables. Although message appeals does not show any difference by itself, interaction effect is observed between trust in government and message appeals; the rational appeal is more effective to those with low trust in government while the emotional appeal is more effective to those with high trust. No other interaction effect is founded but involvement, gender, and age group show important main effect in policy acceptance; high-involvement group and female group are more favorable in attitude toward prosocial policy and behavior intention compare to the each of counterparts, whereas older group is more favorable in behavior intention.

The Influence of Product Types and Consumer Involvement on Consistent and Inconsistent Brand Extensions (모 브랜드의 제품유형 및 관여유형이 일치.불일치 확장브랜드 평가에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigates the influence of the mother brand's product types on the consumers' brand evaluations on consistent and inconsistent brand extensions. The study shows that brand extensions consistent with the mother brand's product type have better brand evaluations than inconsistent brand extensions. The study also shows that brand extensions consistent with utilitarian mother products are much more important than consistent brand extensions with hedonic mother brands. Furthermore, results show that the types of consumer involvement influence the consumers' brand evaluations by interacting with types of mother brands and consistency of brand extensions.

  • This study examined the effect of product presentation on consumers' affective/cognitive states and purchase intention. The design of the study was a one factor(product presentation: garment presented flat vs. garment presented on models without faces vs. garment presented on models with faces) between-subject design with a moderator (involvement: high vs. low). A sample of 429 female college students participated in this online experiment. The results show the effectiveness of using a realistic human model on apparel websites. Also, consumers who are highly involved with clothing generally exhibit more positive responses than those who are less involved. Overall, these findings provide empirical support for the Stimulus-Organism-Response model and the Elaboration Likelihood Model, and contribute useful knowledge regarding website design for online apparel retailers.

  • The importance of emotional factors like as product aesthetics, branding strategies and service quality is increasing in today's marketplace. At the point of fashion product purchases, emotional factor is mainly related to personal selling. Rasearches related to job aptitudity of fashion salesperson are necessary as their role becoming more serious. This study was designed (1) to determine factors of job aptitudity of fashion salesperson; and (2) to examine relations between job aptitudity of fashion salesperson and other variables: demographics, job statistics, fashion involvement fashion innovativeness, ongoing information searching and job satisfaction. As a result, job aptitudty of fashion salesperson was determined into six dimensions by factor analysis: product knowledge, professionalism, involvement to the present profession, marketing cooperator, customer orientation and self management. Marketing cooperator and product knowledge was relatively !ow compared to other aptitudity factors. This finding suggests that the special education programs including textile/fashion product knowledge and value of field information for fashion salesperson is needed to enhance the integrated fashion marketing. The job aptitudity of salesperson was correlated with fashion involvement, fashion innovativeness, ongoing information searching, and job satisfaction. The job aptitudity-related scales which showed significant relation to job aptitudity in this study could be used as the index to examine the job aptitudity of potential employees of fashion retail company.

  • Calligraphy has become popular in recent years. Designers use calligraphy to draw consumer visual attention and liking by delivering friendly and gentle images. This paper analyzes the effects of calligraphy on consumer response to advertisement design. Regression analyses show calligraphy has a positive effect on consumer visual attention and liking, particularly in sensible product/service. In low involvement product/service, however, calligraphy has a negative effect. These results imply that designers should be careful when they use calligraphy.

  • This study serves the main research purpose of verifying the hypothetical relationship between antecedent and consequence variables of shopping experience based on the classification system by Schmitt (1999) who dimensionalized experience into five components (sense, feel, think, act, relate). Specifically, the study seeks to fulfill the following three research objectives. First, it substantiates dynamic relationships among the five experiential components comprising the strategic experiential modules that serve as the basis of the theoretical framework of the study. Especially, it focuses on interactive relationships among the experiential components by taking a holistic view of the experience. Second, the study seeks to uncover the effects of pre-experiential antecedents such as shopping motivation and shopping involvement, based on taxonomy of motivation as product-centered vs. experience-centered. Third, the study investigates the effects of shopping experience on intention to revisit with regard to department store, discount store, and Internet shops, based on customers' store experiences. The major findings from this study are as follows: first, the five experiential components were found to have a high level of correlations according to hypothesis verification. Second, shopping motivation was learned to have significant effects on preference toward thinking as well as feeling experiences. That is, product-centered (vs. experience-centered) shopping motivation exerted a greater influence on cognitive (vs. affective experience than affective (vs. cognitive) experience.

  • Recently, virtual reality and augmented reality technology have been extensively utilized in brand communication. The purpose of this study is to investigate digital reality contents as branded entertainment and content-analyze its format and contents for brand communication. Coding categories were derived to examine marketing characteristics of 300 digital reality contents and key descriptive statistics were presented and interpreted. The results revealed that consumer responses(i.e., view count, like, and dislike) toward Branded Digital Reality contents vary according to types of storytelling. Moreover, perceived values of contents also varied by the types of digital reality(VR vs. AR). Based on the results, this paper discusses the academical and managerial implications of study findings.

  • In post-industrial society, the ability to feel and express emotion is becoming ever more important. In diverse areas of our lives such as economic, social, political and cultural activities, we are witnessing an increased application of the emotional dimension. This paper deals with the human experiences in emotional designs. Literature reviews and case analyses have been used as the main research methods. I first examine the aspects of emotional experience in designs, and then go on to analyze the components of each aspect. Emotional experience in designs has three basic aspects : (a) initially there exist user's emotional needs (b) then these emotions are delivered through design, (c) finally, emotions expressed in designs are experienced by the user. Followings are the related components for each aspect : (a) Physiological, psychological, social and cultural factors cause one to feel emotional needs. (b) Emotion is delivered either through visual symbols, experience, interaction and participation. (c) Emotion is experienced by sensing, feeling, thinking, acting and relating.

  • Typography is the field be needed the most emotional and potential originality in the visual designers works. The design process introduced by aesthetic results is depended on a designers sensibility and originality. Accordingly this study includes more detail suggestions for mental switchover and developing whole area of sense and its education which make more sincere and easy communication of sentences in typographic and messages, removing fixed ideas, that are, prejudice and preconception, is one of big problems in making originality through the educational programs for experimental typography approaching with a new vision. Today, the change of typographic environment carried the substance and effectiveness of traditional typography be suspected and new ways are growing fast to escape from these traditional value. This study introduces some education programs such as Typortrait, Typeface, Typographic Essay, Kinetic Typography to realize the experimental typography to meet a new stream and social needs under the situation of exoplosive change and harmony fairly with proposition of coexisting of inspiration and technology, and finally expected to develop and promote typography experiment newly and to make educational section understand and confirm them.
