  • Valve motion is one of the most important factors which affect on engine noise and efficiency. Since engine valve train is characterized as a spring-mass system, its dynamic response should be analyzed for varing operation RPM range. In this paper, a OHV type valve train motion was studied by dynamic model analysis. A five degrees of freedom model was set up and simulated for different operating conditions. Also in order to varify the usefulness of the model, the valve displacement and the pushrod force were directly measured for varying RPMs and compared with the simulation results. Then sensitivity analysis was done with the five degrees of freedom model in order to suggest for valve train design change.

  • The effect of dispersion in optical transmission system changes according to chirp and SPM. Chirp depends on the modulation condition of an external modulator. SPM is proportional to signal power. In this paper, we analyzed the pulse broadening due to SPM and chirp in the system with dispersion by using Split Step Fourier Method and calculated the optimum chirp parameter for 400 km transmission system. Experimental results are presented also.

  • A pipe prover is a flowmeter calibrator used in flow measurement field. Gravimetric and volumetric methods were applied to determine the basic volume of the pipe prover. Uncertainty of its basic volume measurement was evaluated in accordance with the procedure recommended by International Organization for Standardization. The combined standard uncertainty of determining the basic volume was estimated from the sensitivity coefficient and the standard uncertainty of independent variables. It was found that the uncertainties of the weighing and volume measurements have dominant influence on that of the basic volume determination. With the quantitative analysis of the sensitivity coefficient, the contribution of the each variable uncertainty to the combined standard uncertainty of the basic volume is shown clearly.

  • In small signal stability analysis of power systems, eigenvalue analysis is the most useful method and the detailed modeling of generator has an important effect to the eigenvalues. Generator full model is used for precise dynamic analysis of generators and controllers while two-axis model is used for multi-machine systems because of the reduced order of the state matrix. Also, the eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients are used for optimizing controller parameters to improve system stability. This paper compare the first and second order eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of controllers using generator full model with those of two-axis model. As a result of an example, the estimated eigenvalues using the first and the second eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients using generator full model is very close to those of state matrix. Also the error ratios throughout a wide range of controller parameters is less than $1\%$.

  • This study proposed the method of the multi-crack detection using the sensitivity coefficient matrix which is calculated from the change of eigenvalues and eigenvectors before and after the crack. Each crack is modeled by a rotational springs. The method is applied to the cantilever beam with miulti-crack. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors are determined for different crack locations and depths. The prediction of multi-crack detection are in good agreement with the results of structural reanalysis.

  • In this paper, we proposed watermarking algorithm based on wavelet transform. Discrete wavelet transform is involved to calculate additive energy strength. Considering imperceptibility, after computing contrast and texture sensitivity in gray-level image, we inserted watermark with variable weight due to the feature of coefficient block. Consequently, applying human visual system, the experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm satisfied the properties of robustness and imperceptibility that are the major conditions of watermarking.

  • The standard uncertainty of flowrate measurement is obtained by combining that of independent variables. Gravimetric and volumetric method were applied to determine the flowrate and the standard uncertainties of flowrate measurement by both methods were evaluated in accordance with the procedure recommended by International Organization for Standardization. The combined standard uncertainties of determining the flowrate were estimated from the sensitivity coefficient and the standard uncertainty of independent variables. For practical application, the methods for evaluating and expressing uncertainty in flow measurement were discussed. It was found that the uncertainties of the weighing and time measurement in gravimetric method, the volume and time measurement in volumetric method have dominant influence on that of flowrate measurement. • This paper presents a simple method for evaluating of voltage stability using the line flow equation. Line flow equations ($P_{ij}$, $Q_{ij}$) are comprised of state variable, $V_i$, ${\delta}_i$, $V_j$ and ${\delta}_j$, and line parameter, r and x. Using the feature of polar coordinate, these becomes one equation with two variables, $V_i$ and $V_j$. Moreover, if bus j is slack or generater bus, which is specified voltage magnitude, it becomes one equation with one variable $V_i$, that is, may be formulated with the second-order equation for $V_i^2$. Therefore, multiple load flow solutions may be obtained with simple computation, and the formulated equation used for approximately evaluating of voltage stability limit considering line flow sensitivity. The proposed method was validated to 2-bus and IEEE 6-bus system.
