  • This article explores the potentials of the application of organization theories to nursing research on health care organizations in Korea. The critical review of the literature reveals that the important topics on organizations in health services research have been also dealt with by nursing researchers. Notwithstanding this theoretical closeness between the two fields, some issues remain: the paucity of attention to 'level issue', which requires to increase the attempts at 'meso-' or 'macro-' analysis on nurses' behavior in organizations; the need for theoretical frameworks specifying organizational factors relating to nursing processes; the necessity of interdisciplinary approaches to bridge the recent developments of organizational study and nursing research. This article finishes with a few of research agendas for future research to fill these gaps.

Method: The subjects were 198 nurse managers who were in general hospitals over 900 beds. The data were collected from January 13 to March 13, 2006. The SPSS PC+ 12.0 program was used to analyze the data. Result: The nurse managers had greater participation in the identification phase of decision making than selection phase. The mean scores of three phases were significantly different. The satisfaction of decision making was evaluated. The higher participation in decision making, the higher satisfaction of decision making. Nurse managers' decision style tended to be more participative than autocratic. Personal and organizational factors(age and decentralization) influenced positively on participation in decision making. Decentralization and span of control influenced positively on satisfaction in decision making. Conclusion: It is necessary to permit the participation in decision making for nurse managers.

Results : 1) The major type of cost analysis was a cost comparison study. 2) The important methodological weaknesses were as followers: First, many studies did not describe a cost analysis framework or a cost analysis assumption. Second, a few studies described selection criteria of cost items and effectiveness items. Third, many studies did not do a sensitivity analysis. Conclusion : With these results, it will be possible to develop a more proper cost analysis methodological framework and also to make an evaluation criteria for cost analysis nursing study.

  • Background: There is controversy surrounding the claim that current nursing workforce policies exacerbate the geographic imbalance of nurses in Korea, but very few studies have confirmed this assertion. Therefore, this study aimed to identify factors influencing the distribution of nurses at the regional level, including variables related to nursing workforce policies. Methods: This study analyzed the distribution of 225,462 practicing nurses across 250 regions in Korea as of 2020. National statistics were collected for these 250 regions, and regression analysis was conducted. Results: Factors influencing the distribution of practicing nurses included the number of annual inpatient days, integrated nursing care service beds, public healthcare institutions, tertiary hospitals, and general hospitals. Additionally, the number of nursing graduates and healthcare institutions with nurse staffing grade 1 and 2 had an impact on nurse distribution in non-capital regions. Conclusion: To prevent exacerbating the geographic imbalance of nurses, careful decisions should be made regarding the expansion of integrated nursing care service beds. Furthermore, it is necessary to increase the number of nursing students in non-capital regions and prioritize the improvement of wages and working conditions for nurses in those areas.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the major trends of research in the Journal of Korean Nursing Administration from 2007 to 2009. Method: Research designs, participants, research domains, and key words were analyzed from the Journal of Korean Nursing Administration. Results: Job satisfaction, organizational commitment, job stress, turnover intention, nursing performance, self-efficiency, leadership, empowerment, nursing informatics, and quality control were the major key words commonly listed in the journal articles. Of the research in the Nursing Administration Journal, quantitative methods were used in 94.5% of the research studies and qualitative methods in only 5.5%. The major participants in the research were nurses, nurse managers, and patients. Statistical methods like ANOVA, correlation, t-test, regression, chi-square test, LISREL were the dominant method of analysis used in the research. The primary domains in the journal articles were directing, organizing, control, planning, and informatics. Conclusion: Through this study, the trend of research in nursing administration can be identified. We recommend that collaboration, nurse work environment, evidence-based practice, scheduling, coaching, patient falls and safety, and positive culture should be included as topics for the future research.

  • Purpose : to survey about satisfaction of nurses of NANDA nursing diagnosis and NIC nursing interventions and system's usefulness of information system forusing 10 medical diagnosis. Method : nurses learned about this system and used this system for 4 or 8 weeks. After that survey about satisfaction and usefulness of this system. Result : The good points of the nursing diagnosis systems are a rapid selection, accuracy, convenience of the using system. The good points of the nursing intervention system are same as the nursing diagnosis system. About the good points of the general system are easiness, improvement of nursing knowledge, convenience, etc. However, further studies for pilot operations of the system are mandatory. Conclusion : We expect this system can be used in many hospitals efficiently in the future after pilot operations are completed in some hospitals. After verifying the usefulness of the system through pilot operations, the further analysis on the relationship between medical diagnosis and NANDA nursing diagnosis is also necessary for the generalization.
