Transitional Patterns of Vegetation in Reclaimed Land Applied with Solidified Sewage Sludge (하수슬러지 고화물을 처리한 매립예정 간척지토양의 잡초발생 양상변화)

  • This study was firstly conducted to investigate changes of vegetation and soil characteristics in reclaimed land applied with solidified sewage sludge for the cultivation of bioenergy crops. Each vegetation survey site was approximately $15m{\times}3m$ on the inside of each experimental plot that consisted of 50% (A-1), 30% (A-2), 15% (A-3), and 5% (A-4) mixture of solidified sewage sludge, and original reclaimed soil (ORS). After the application of solidified sewage sludge, we monitored the changes of vegetation and soil properties for three years. In first year, soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and exchangeable $Ca^{2+}$ content was 9.4~10.8, $9.10{\sim}14.41\;dS\;m^{-1}$, and $62.1{\sim}204.2\;cmol\;kg^{-1}$, respectively, while three years later, it decreased to 8.1~8.4, $1.65{\sim}5.98\;dS\;m^{-1}$, and $21.9{\sim}43.1\;cmol\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. These results indicated that several of soil chemical elements which have nagative impacts on the plant growth in the plots of mixtures of solidified sewage sludge, steadily declined as the years go by. The vegetations in each survey site were recorded as 6 families and 12 species in 2014, while the vegetations were not occurred at all survey sites in 2012, and only halophytes as Phragmites australis and Suaeda asparagoides were observed in 2013. Diversity of vegetation, which was calculated by shannon index (H'), increased as the season progressed at each experimental plot applied with solidified sewage sludge. In original reclaimed soil, however, there was showed the high community similarity of vegetation due to the fact that P. australis and S. asparagoides were only occurred for survey periods.

Relation between Growth Condition of Six Upland-Crops and Soil Salinity in Reclaimed Land (간척지에서 토양 염류와 6개 밭작물 생육과의 관계)

  • This study was carried out to obtain basic data for selecting the applicable crops in reclaimed land and to provide guidelines for the rotation between paddy and upland cropping. Field experiment was conducted with six summer crops(garland chrysanthemum, young radish, small radish, kale, lettuce, red lettuce) at Dae-Ho reclaimed experiment plots in Dangjin province. Dry weights and plant heights of harvested crops were measured and soil chemical properties were analyzed. Plant height and dry weight decreased significantly with increasing soil saturation paste extract electrical conductivity(ECe) and sodium adsorption ratio(SAR). The threshold ECe of salt inhibition for six crops was less than $1dS\;m^{-1}$ for young radish and kale, greater than $4dS\;m^{-1}$ for garland chrysanthemum, and greater than $6dS\;m^{-1}$ for small radish, lettuce, and red lettuce. At higher ECe that inhibits crop growth, with every increase in $1dS\;m^{-1}$, dry weight index decreased by 3.35 for kale, 3.92 for small radish, 3.98 for young radish, 4.66 for lettuce, 7.57 for garland chrysanthemum, and 8.45% for red lettuce, respectively. The ECe causing 50% reduction of dry weight index was $18.9dS\;m^{-1}$ for small radish, $17.3dS\;m^{-1}$ for lettuce, $15.4dS\;m^{-1}$ for kale, $12.0dS\;m^{-1}$ for red lettuce, $11.3dS\;m^{-1}$ for young radish, and $11.0dS\;m^{-1}$ for garland chrysanthemum. Among the tested 6 summer crops through field experiment and in-situ survey, kale was proved to be a favorable vegetable crop at reclaimed tidal land.

  • This research was experimented to clarity the effects of the calcareous materials which were utilized to improve the soil in reclaimed tidal land. It is located at the Kang-Hwa polder. Kil-sang myun, Kang-Hwa Gun, Kyung-gi Do. The results obtained are as follows 1. Comparing with the yields of rice in each treatment, it is noticed that the plot treated with ca-humated 1.0% gets the most effect to improve the soil, and the next ones are in the order of the plots treated with raw straw, gypsum and calcium hydroxide. 2. Treating the calcium or organic matter in soil is evaluated to increase the yields of rice in paddy fields of tidal land, because of increasing the number of ear per plant, the number of grain per ear, the weight of 1,000 grains and somthing like that. 3. Adding calcium or organic matter into soil, it makes a good condition for the growth of rice, because of pomoting the formation of soil structure of simple grain type. 4. To improve the soil in reclaimed tidal land, we can separately treat calcium, calcium hydroxide and raw straw in soil, but it is found out the fact that the method of treatment of calcareous materials together with organic matter is more effective.

Analysis of Growth and Functional substance for Cyperus rotundus and Glehnia littoralis by EC Treatment in Reclaimed Soil Conditions (간척지 토양에서 EC 처리에 따른 향부자와 갯방풍의 생육 및 기능성 물질 함량 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the growth and functional differences between C. rotundus and G. littoralis according to different electrical conductivity (EC) conditions in reclaimed soil conditions. C. rotundus and G. littoralis seeds were sown in a tray and managed for seedlings stage for eight weeks. They were transplanted in the pots containing reclaimed soils sampled in the Saemangum region. The plants were grown in the reclaimed land soil for 12 weeks under the control, 1, 2, 4, and $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ conditions and in horticultural soils with EC $1.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Plant height, leaf length and width of C. rotundus were the highest in EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Leaf, flower and tuber numbers of C. rotundus were the highest in EC $2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ and the lowest in EC $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, and SPAD was the highest in EC 2 and $4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ and the lowest in EC $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The fresh weights of shoot and root of C. rotundus grown under EC $2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ increased and then decreased as the concentration increased. When compared plant growth between reclaimed soil and horticulture soil with EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, the fresh weights of shoot and root, SPAD, leaf number, flower number, and tuber number were higher in horticultural soils. Although G. littoralis grown under EC $8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ was the lowest in all growth parameters, there were no significant differences among other EC treatments. C. rotundus had the highest p-coumaric acid content in EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. And the catechin content in shoot of G. littoralis was the highest in the control, and root of Glehnia littoralis had the highest benzoic acid contents in EC $1dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. If the soil EC is well managed within $4.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, two plants would be cultivated in reclaimed land.

Hairy Vetch Growth-Promoting Rhizobium sp. RH84 and Application to Reclaimed Land (Rhizobium sp. RH84에 의한 간척지 환경에서의 헤어리베치 생육촉진)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the plant growth promoting activity of hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth) on reclaimed land. At the previous research, Rhizobium sp. RH84 was isolated and selected for further study from hairy vetch. For the investigation of plant growth promoting effects by the Rhizobium sp. RH84, production of indole acetic acid (IAA), siderophore, phosphate solubilization and nitrogen fixation were tested and other characters were examined. As results, RH84 produced $9.03{\mu}g$ IAA per mL and showed nitrogen fixation activity. With the treatment of Rhizobium sp. RH84 to hairy vetch showed good growth at 0.3% salty reclaimed soil, and the production yield was increased up to 56% at field test. From these results, it was confirmed that the Rhizobium sp. RH84 would be used as a green manure for hairy vetch under the salty condition of reclaimed land.

Wind Erodibility of the Saemangeum Tideland Reclamation Project Area (새만금 간척지에서의 풍식예측에 관하여)

  • Evaluation of wind erodibility for the Saemangeum Reclamation Project area based on the wind erosion equation, WEQ, was attempted. Climatic factor was calculated with the climatic data for the Kunsan area, and soil erodibility factor was evaluated with the 108 soil samples collected from the project area. The soil erodibility evaluated from the non erodible aggregate percentage greater than 0.84 mm for the soil samples collected was $204.1Mg\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ ranged from 50.08 to $642.37ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$. The annual climate factor based on the meteorological data in Kunsan was 3.67. The average amount of wind erosion with climate factor C from the climatic data from Kunsan and soil erodibility factor l from the soil in the project area was 7.49 Mg $ha^{-1}$ $yr^{-1}$ ranged from 1.84 Mg $ha^{-1}$ $yr^{-1}$ for silty clay loam soil to 23.57 Mg $ha^{-1}$ $yr^{-1}$ for sandy soil. The intensive wind erosion control should be needed for friable sand and loamy sand soils in the area.

Optimum Seeding Rate in Different to Soil Salinity for Broadcasting on the Rice Flooded Paddy Surface at South-western Reclaimed Saline Land of Korea (서남부 간척지에서 벼 담수표면산파재배시 토양 염농도별 적정 파종량)

  • This study was conducted to establish the optimum seeding rate in different soil salinity level for yield stability of broadcasting on flooded paddy surface to the reclaimed saline land of south-western part at Gyehwado substation of the Honam Agricultural Research institute in $2003{\sim}2004$. Soeganbyeo was tested in the Munpo series (fine sand loam) the results obtained is as follows: As seeding rate was higher, the number of seeding stand was increased and the number of seeding stands in the low salinity field is sharply increased than those of the medium salinity field. The length of culm in medium salinity field tends to be shorter than that of the low salinity field and as seeding rate was increased, the lodging is severe. The milled rice yield was increased as up to 9 kg/10a in low and medium salinity soil. Complete rice was no significantly increased over 5 kg/10a seeding rate in low salinity field and over 7 kg/10a seeding rate in medium salinity field. Considering the yield of milled and complete rice, seeding stand and lodging, The proper seeding rate is $5{\sim}7kg/10a$ in low salinity and $7{\sim}9kg/10a$ in medium salinity for broadcasting on flooded paddy surface at the reclaimed saline land of southwestern part.
