Simplified Estimation of the Ultimate Strength of Ship Panels using Statistical Data of Actual Ships (건조선 통계자료를 이용한 선박 판부재의 최종강도 간이추정)

  • The ultimate strength formulas of ship panels are suggested in a simple and suitable form. Firstly, these formulas are derived from a full description of the variables that govern plate strength by using statistical data of actual ships. Secondly, under the assumption of plate mid-edge collapse using the Von-Mises' yield criterion and the new buckling formula, a general equation for the ultimate strength estimation is also derived. The existing test data are compared with these new formulas and a good correlation is shown.

  • Large fires continue to spread throughout the building, including the fire in Uijeongbu in 2015, the fire in Jecheon in 2017, and the fire in Miryang in 2018. According to the above fire case investigation, major problems were the fire resistance performance of compartment members such as fire doors, the fire spread due to damage to exterior wall openings, and smoke spread through vertical openings. However, in South Korea, only specification design is implemented for buildings that are not subject to performance design. In addition, the analysis of the fire resistance performance standards of building members in the specification design showed that fire doors were not specified in detail for 60 minutes of insulation performance and 60 minutes of fire resistance performance of E/V doors, limiting the prevention of fire spread. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to prepare measures to prevent the spread of fire by presenting simple transplants for calculating the required fire time according to the architectural design conditions for the performance design of the components of the fire room according to the purpose of use of the front of the building.

A Simple Formula for Ultimate Strength Prediction of Hull Girders (선각거더의 최종강도 간이계산식)

  • The aim of this study is to derive a simple formula for predicting ultimate strength of hull girders under vertical bending moment. The existing formulas have been reviewed and classified into analytical approach, empirical approach and linear approximate approach. It is known that the ship hull will reach the ultimate limit state if both collapse of the compression flange and yielding of the tension flange occur. Side shells in the vicinity of the compression and tension flanges will often fail also, but the material around the final neutral axis will remain in the elastic state. Based on this observation, a credible distribution of longitudinal stresses around the hull section at the overall collapse state is assumed, and an explicit analytical formula is derived. The accuracy of the formula has been verified by a comparison of the experimental and the numerical results.

  • A study for the structural strength evaluation on the doubler plate subjected to the biaxial in-plane compression has been performed through the systematic evaluation process. In order to estimate the proper static strength of doubler plate, elasto-plastic large deflection analysis is introduced including the contact effect between main plate and doubler. The characteristics of stiffness and strength variation are discussed based on their results. A1so, in order to compare the doubler structure with the original strength of main plate without doubler, a simple formula for the evaluation of the equivalent flat plate thickness is derived based on the additional series analysis of flat plate structure. Using this derived equation, the thickness change of a equivalent flat plate is analyzed according to the variation of various design parameters of doubler plate and some design guides are suggested in order to maintain the original strength of main plate without doubler reinforcement. Finally, correlation between derived equivalent flat plate formula and the developed buckling strength formulas by author et a1. is discovered and these relations are formulated for the future development of simple strength evaluation formula of doubler plate structure.

Effects of Initial Responses in Steps for the Release Accidents of Hydrofluoric Acid (불산수용액 누출사고에 대한 초기대응 단계별 영향)

  • As hazardous chemicals are releasing in process industries such as chemical & petro-chemical plants, the importance of initial responses has been always emphasized. However, little attention of quantitative analysis of the consequence by different initial responses during releasing of the chemicals has been done. The main objective of current paper is to investigate the effects of initial responses for the release accidents of hydrofluoric acid. For this, a simplified equation that can easily calculate the effect distance by varying concentrations of hydrofluoric acid was firstly deduced. In addition, a causal loops for the initial response steps using the system dynamics technique was constructed during release of 50% hydrofluoric acid. The effect distances according to different scenarios of the initial actions were also quantitatively analyzed by applying the simplified equation to the causal map. As a result, the highest reduction rate on the maximum effect distance was obtained with 'start time of action after leak detection' being about 87% while the lowest was 'arrival time of professional response team' being about 50%, as expected. It is expected that the results gained from the current study can be helpful as of basics of the initial response to the workplace, dealing with the hydrofluoric acid.

The Application of a Simplified Pullout Test for High-Strength Concrete (고강도 콘크리트에 대한 간이 인발시험법 적용)

  • In the seventies, a number of researchers carried out experiments on pullout tests with prototype equipment, and the pullout test was certified as a reliable nondestructive testing(NDT) method for determining the strength of concrete. To estimate the strength of high-strength concrete, we propose a simplified pullout test that uses as a break-off bolt a standard 10mm bolt with a groove on the shaft, an insert nut, and a pullout instrument that includes a hydraulic oil pump without a load cell. To verify the advantages of the simplified pullout test(low cost, simplicity, and convenience), four wall specimens were tested with two levels of concrete strength, 30 MPa and 50 MPa, using a simplified pullout tester with a load cell. The pullout load and concrete compressive strength were measured every day until day 7, day 14, day 21 and day 28. It was found that the pullout load was very similar to the compressive strength. Therefore, we have verified that a simplified pullout test can be used to evaluate the in-place strength of high-strength concrete in structures. The prediction equation of the groove diameter of the break-off bolt(y) with the concrete strength(x) was derived as y=0.05x+3.79, with a coefficient of determination of 0.88 found through regression analysis.

A Study on the Collapse Strength Characteristics of Ship Bottom Plating Subject to Slamming Induced Impact Lateral Pressure Loads (선저슬래밍 충격횡압력을 받는 선체 판부재의 붕괴강도 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The twin aims of the paper are to investigate the collapse strength characteristics of ship plating subject to impact pressure loads and to develop a simple structural design formula considering impact load effects. The general purpose nonlinear finite element program STARDYNE together with existing experimental results is used to investigate the collapse behavior of plating under impact pressure loads. The rigid plastic theory taking into account large deflection effects is applied to the development of the design formulation. In the theoretical method, the collapse strength formulation for plating subject to hydrostatic pressure is first derived using the rigid plastic theory. By including the strain rate erects in the formulation it can be applied to impact pressure problems. As illustrative examples, the collapse behavior of steel unstiffened plates and aluminum alloy stiffened panels subject to impact pressure loads is analyzed.

  • This paper proposes simple formulae for buckling and ultimate strength estimation of plates subjected to water pressure and uniaxial compression. For the construction of a formula for elastic buckling strength estimation, parametric study for actual ship plates with varying aspect ratios and the magnitude of water pressure is carried out by means of principle of minimum potential energy. Based on the results by parametric study, a new formula is approximately expressed as a continuous function of loads and aspect ratio. On the other hand, in order to get a formula for ultimate strength estimation, in-plane stress distribution of plates is investigated through large deflection analysis and total in-plane stresses are expressed as an explicit form. By applying Mises's plasticity condition, ultimate strength criterion is then derives. In the case of plates under relatively small water pressure, the results by the proposed formulae are in good agreement compared with those by other methods and experiment. But present formula overestimates the ultimate strength in the range of large water pressure. However, actual ship plates are subjected to relatively small water pressure except for the impact load due to slamming etc.. Therefore, it is considered that present formulae can be applied for the practical use.

  • 연료전지는 전기에너지와 열에너지를 동시에 사용 할 수 있기 때문에 에너지 효율이 높고 유해 배기물이 거의 없으므로 친환경적이다. 따라서 환경문제가 대두되고 있는 오늘날, 고효율 친환경의 연료 전지는 차세대 에너지원으로 각광받고 있다. 보일러와 계통선에서 열과 전기를 공급받는 기존방식에 비해 연료전지 코제너레이션 시스템의 경우 20%이상 에너지 절감율을 향상시킬 수 있다. 기존 10kW이하의 소용량 발전설비의 경우 대형 발전소와 같은 수준인 30%이상의 전기 효율을 기대할 수 없으나 고분자 전해질 연료전지를 적용할 경우 1kW급에서도 35%의 전기 효율을 기대할 수 있으며 열회수까지 고려할 경우 80%에 가까운 열효율을 달성할 수 있다.(4)연료전지 시스템은 연료전지 스택 이외에, 연료변환장치, 급기설비, 열 및 물관리 설비, 전력변환장치 그리고 제어 장치 등으로 구성된다. 연료전지 시스템 성능은 연료전지 스택의 성능에 가장 의존적인데 연료전지 스택의 성능은 같은 스택이라도 운전 및 제어 방법에 따라서 다양하게 변할 수 있다. 실제로 연료전지 스택 자체의 전기 변환 효율은 최대 40% 까지로 매우 높으나, 다양한 운전 조건에 따라 효율이 30~40% 수준에서 변화는 것이 현실이다. 때문에 시스템을 설계할 때에는 종합화된 시스템 측면에서의 운전까지 고려한 설계와 성능 해석이 필요하다. 그간 연료전지를 활용한 가정용 열병합 발전분야에서는 시스템 설계를 위한 시뮬레이션 기반 성능 해석에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되어왔다. 하지만 연료전지 스택의 경우 간이화된 성능 모델식을 사용하여 이로 인한 성능 예측모델의 오차가 크게 발생하여 전체 시스템 최적화의 저해요인으로 작용하여왔다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 가정용 연료전지 열병합 발전 시스템을 자체적으로 설계 개발하였으며 이 중 연료전지 스택의 성능모델을 실험기반으로 구축하였다. 먼저 가정용 연료전지 열병합 발전 시스템의 설계는 크게 네 단계로 구분되며 이는 1) 시스템 개념 설계, 2) 연료전지 스택 설계, 3) 주변장치 설계, 4) 제어시스템 설계로 이뤄진다. 연료전지 스택의 성능 모델은 고분자연료전지의 성능에 가장 민감하게 영향을 미치는 온도 및 습도의 변화에 따른 다양한 스택 성능을 예측 가능하도록 개발하였으며 이는 간단한 이론 모델의 구조에 실험 데이터를 기반으로 모델 파라미터를 도출하는 기법으로 이뤄졌다.
