A Phenomenological Study on Experience of Sexual Offender in Prison (수감되어 있는 성폭력 가해자의 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study as a research of experience of sexual offenders who are in confinement in prisons and forensic facilities is to theoretically investigate fundamental structures of their experiences and to practically construct basic data to present intervention programs of sexual offenders. This study was conducted by hermeneutical and phenomenological methods invoked of the analytic framework of Van-Manen (1990) about seven sexual offenders. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, and the results of the interpretation are shown as perception that they were victims of public opinion, the mark of Cain, loss of opportunity of examination caused by show window, collective differentiation through distinction, expression of metaphysical being that wants to slip out of the skin, counterplot of scientific management techniques, undifferentiation from the Imaginary, sexual acts shown as inverted communication, discovering dominant domain as forming reaction to being controlled, not being free from capitalistic attributes in which even children's sex is commercialized, distortion in socialization of sexual identity, paternity stamped as embodiment of suppressed desire, recovery of lost virginity of mother through children, and family as a name broken to pieces.

Effect of Bullying-Related Experience upon Bullying Conformity Types: The Mediating Effect of Ego-Resilience (초등학생의 따돌림 경험이 따돌림 동조에 미치는 영향: 자아탄력성의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect which may operate within bulling-related experience and bulling conformity types in upper-grade elementary school children. The parameter name is ego-resilience. The participants in this research consisted of 445 upper-grade elementary school children. The main result are the following. First, bulling-related experiences had a direct influence upon bulling conformity types (attacker conformity to the victims. conformity, bystander) without using the parametric ego-resilience. Expecially, the bulling-related experience had a positive relationship with attacker conformity. Second, based on the analysis of the relationship between bulling-related experience and bulling conformity types, using the parametric ego-resilience, it was found out that the bulling-related experience have an effect on bulling conformity types both directly and indirectly. Concretely, the parametric ego-resilience has increased from victim conformity and bystander, but decreased from attacker conformity.

The Victimization of Stalking among University Students in Korea (우리나라 대학생의 스토킹 피해에 관한 연구)

  • Stalking is defined as an abnormal or long term pattern of threat of harassment directed toward a specific individual and obsessional following. This study use empirical method based on the self administrated questionnaire of 325 male and female university students in Korea, for understanding the actual conditions of stalking. The findings are as follows. First, 18(5.5%) students experienced the victimization of stalking. Female students were more likely to be victims of stalking than male. 4(1.3%) of students were stalkers. Second, Female students were more likely to be stalkers than male. The age of most stalkers were younger than 27 yrs.. And most stalking victims knew their stalker. Third, the most cause of stalking was revenge for denial of courtship. The most methods of stalking were making approaches and the communications via letter, telephone, and giving presents. And the most period of Stalking was in 6 months.

A Study of the Effect of Corrective Counseling Programs for Domestic Violence Offenders and Its Content Analysis (가정폭력 가해자 교정상담 프로그램 효과와 내용 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This dissertation analyzed the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for Korean domestic violence offenders. I conducted a survey of Korean domestic violence offenders scattered throughout the country. The survey period was between Mar Feb. 20, 2006 and Apr. 29, 2006. The specific objects of the survey are the 250 domestic violence offenders who got counseling in the Goyang branch office of the Justice Ministry-affiliated Uijeongbu Probation & Parole Center, Ansan Citizen Welfare Society's domestic violence counseling center, Korea Domestic Violence Counseling Center Association, Korea Women's Hot Line, Korea Family Law Counseling Center and its branch offices throughout the country, and the counseling centers commissioned by the court for domestic violence offenders. The study was based on a poll on 182 of the 250 offenders. The research result includes: First, the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for offenders varies depending upon the age, educational background, location, job, income, and childhood abuse of offenders. In particular, the less experience of childhood abuse leads to greater effect of education. Second, of the types of corrective counseling programs for offenders, the satisfaction for those in couple counseling is the greatest. This is because couple counseling is more influential than individual in the professional education that helps to share and understand couple problems.

Environmental Factors, Types of Bullying Behavior, and Psychological and Behavioral Outcomes for the Bullies (괴롭힘 가해자의 환경적 요인, 괴롭힘 행동유형, 가해자의 심리.행동적 결과에 대한 연구)

  • This study was designed to find out the determinants of types of bullying behavior, and the effects of types of bullying behavior on the bullies. For this purpose, a hypothetical model which explains the relationships among 6 environmental factors, 5 types of bullying behavior, and 5 outcome variables for the bullies was developed. Using the data collected from 177 junior and high school students who have bullied the other students, the hypothetical model was tested. For data analysis, a path analysis was used, and the best-fitting model was found (df=78, GFI=0.953, CFI=1.00). As a result of analyzing the model, types of bullying behavior were found to be determined by the different environmental factors: Isolation was determined by 2 factors (feeling of isolation from friends, exposure to bullying), social bullying by 2 factors (lack of support from parents, exposure to bullying), verbal bullying by conflicts with parents, physical bullying by 3 factors (lack of support from parents, exposure to isolation and exposure to bullying), and instrumental bullying by lack of support from parents. On the other hand, the pleasure that the bullies feel after bullying behavior was increased by isolation, verbal bullying and physical bullying, while decreased by instrumental bullying. Guilt feeling was decreased by isolation and instrumental bullying, while increased by physical bullying. Isolation increased the tendency of blaming the victim. Isolation and instrumental bullying increased bullies' self-esteem, while social bullying decreased self-esteem. Verbal bullying increased the extent of bullying, while instrumental bullying decreased the extent of bullying. Based on the findings, the intervention strategies to change the bullies' attitudes toward victim, and to increase social support from the significant others as well as the effective ways to reorganize the school environment in order to reduce and prevent bullying behavior were suggested.

The Relationship between Child Abuse and School Violence: The Mediating Effects of Aggression and Depression (가정학대가 청소년의 학교폭력 가해 및 피해경험에 미치는 영향: 공격성과 우울의 매개효과)

  • This study was conducted to identify the relationship between child abuse and school violence and whether aggression and depression have any mediating effects on this relationship. This study analyzed the responses of 1,937 eighth grade students. The main results of this study were as follows. First, child abuse was positively correlated with school violence aggression and school violence victimization. Second, aggression and depression mediated the effect of child abuse on aggression and victimization, respectively. Third, aggression mediated the effect of child abuse on victimization. Fourth, although there was a reciprocal causal relationship between aggression and victimization, school violence victims who were abused by their parents were less likely to be the perpetrators of violence themselves. These findings have implications regarding the use of counseling intervention to prevent violence in schools.

Exposure to Violence and Coping Behavior during the Clinical Practice of Nursing Students (임상실습 중 간호대학생의 폭력 경험과 대처 행동)

  • This study was conducted to investigate violence experiences and coping behaviors of nursing students when they were doing clinical practice. Data were collected from 250 nursing students from 10th of November to 10th of December in 2014 using questionnaires. 231 questionnaires were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. 98.7% of the subject have experienced violence. Most frequently mentioned setting where violences were experienced was psychiatric unit, abusers were patient. Most frequent violence type was verbal abuse(97.4%) followed by physical threatening(76.2%). Most frequent coping behavior was enduring(87.8%) followed by avoiding(83.2%). In this study, most of nursing students experienced violence during the clinical practice. They need to be better protected from violence during the clinical practice. It is needed various active effort and programs to prevent violence and to help students cope more against violence in their practice.

A Study for cost of road traffic accident taken offender's PTSD in consideration (교통사고 가해자의 외상 후 스트레스 장애를 고려한 도로교통사고 비용 연구)

  • The main objective of this study is to consider the necessity of introducing owner expenses in estimating the cost of traffic accidents, as is done in some advanced countries. It is known as "owner cost" in the U.S, "enterprise project price" in Japan, and "human cost" in the U.K. To achieve this, the seriousness and present state of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of traffic accident offenders, which is generally not observed when traffic accidents occur, are evaluated; countermeasures reflecting personal characteristics are prepared according to degree of affliction. The results could be summarized as follows. First, the present condition and seriousness of PTSD from traffic accidents that has been estimated only within the accidents offenders are evaluated through a survey. Second, a distinction analysis model is developed. 'Insomnia caused by accidents' and 'mental daunting in accident situations or similar ones during driving' are chosen as the variables of the discriminant. Third, as a result of the construction of an Ordered Probit Model to comprehend the seriousness of PTSD, the variables turns out in the order of 'seriousness of the most damaged victim, 'nightmare about the accident', 'insomnia experience', 'mental daunting during driving', 'gender', and 'major driving area'. Finally, the cures reflecting characteristics of gender and region are suggested, which are preferred for degree of seriousness of PTSD. The analysis shows that the method to minimize the damage, such as decline of work efficiency, by moving ahead the rehabilitation of the offenders would be suggested and this could minimize the direct and indirect damages that could happen to business owners for whom the drivers work.

The Effect of Different Types of Bullying Defenders on Bullying Behavior: Verification of the Moderating Effect of Empathy (집단따돌림 동조유형이 집단따돌림 가해행위에 미치는 영향: 공감능력의 조절효과 검증)

  • This study was designed to test whether middle school students have moderating effect of empathy ability on group bullying behavior. The subjects were 488 middle school students in Busan area, The mean difference test and regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 20 program and the related variables were standardized to show the characteristics of the control effect. The results of this study are as follows: First, as the experiences of the perpetrator and the experience of the autonomous group, the group bullying behaviors were higher, and it was confirmed that the perpetrators were important variables for predicting the bullying behaviors. As a predictor of bullying behavior, it was identified as an important variable. Second, empathy ability has a moderating effect of alleviating the relationship between perpetrator's harmony and bullying behavior, and the relationship between onlooker and bullying behavior. Third, according to gender analysis, male students were more exposed to bullying behaviors than female students. Through these discussions, practical suggestions for social welfare, academic suggestions, and suggestions for follow-up studies were made.

Psychological experiences of homicide victims' families: A phenomenological study (살인사건 피해 유가족의 심리적 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구)

  • This study explored the psychological experiences of surviving family members of homicide victims. Nine family members of homicide victims, who could verbalize their experiences and agree to participate, were interviewed. The time between the interview and the homicide ranged from 6 months to 4 years, and all the homicide offenders were convicted prior to the study. The interview data were analyzed to identify meanings and themes using Colaizzi's method. Results showed that 472 meaningful phrases and sentences were extracted, which were subsequently organized into 48 formulated meanings, 24 clusters of themes, 16 emergent themes, and 6 categories. The six categories were related to the homicide victim, the participant, the family members, other people/the world, the offender/the offender's family, and realistic difficulties. For each category participants' experiences were described in detail. Finally, implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
