관습에서 벗어난 종합방제 필요 - 과수진딧물 방제의 "키"는 어디있나?-

  • 진딧물은 아주 작고 연약하여 조그마한 힘을 가해도 곧 터져버릴 것 같은 곤충이지만, 일생을 통하여 5가지 형태로 까지 변화할 수 있어 불량환경에 적응할 수 있는 힘은 그 어느 곤충보다도 크다고 하겠다. 처녀생식으로 번식하므로 번식력 또한 대단하여 그 숫자가 단시일내에 크게 불어나는 해충이다. 과수 재배시에 진딧물의 피해양상은 과수의 영양분을 흡즙하고, 감로를 분비하여 그을음병을 유발시키며, 잎을 오그라뜨리거나 뒤쪽으로 말리게하여 잎의 기능을 억제시킴으로써 과수의 생육을 지연시키고 묘목의 경우에 심할 때는 고사(枯死)까지 한다. 또한 최근에는 약제방제시에 약제선택성이 강한 종들이 나타나고 있는 실정이므로 진딧물의 효과적인 방제를 위해서는 무엇보다도 먼저 진딧물의 종류에 따른 생태를 잘 알고 그에 따른 합리적인 방제대책을 수립하여야 할 것으로 생각된다. 이에 필자는 그동안의 연구에서 얻어진 결과를 토대로 과수가해 주요 진딧물의 생태와 방제법을 소개하는 것이며 이 조그마한 자료가 진딧물에 얽힌 문제점들을 해결하는데 조금이나마 도움이 되었으면 한다.

Damage of Garlic Gall Mite, Aceria tulipae(Keifer), on Stored Garlic and its Chemical Control (저장마늘의 마늘혹응애 피해와 화학적 방제)

  • In a survey on the pests of stored garlic, an unrecorded gall mite in Korea was found to damage on garlic surface making stripe feeding injuries. The mite was identified as Aceria tulipae (Keifer) 1938, based on the morphological characteristics. Light microscopic and SEM observations on garlics fed by A. tulipae revealed that there was no gall formation by feeding but there was only surface damage symptom. The damaged garlic surface showed symptom of losing gloss in the early stage and the feeding traces under dissecting microscope. Brown stripes appeared in the middle stage of damage and the whole scale turned to dark brown and shrank in the later stage. When the mite infested garlics were fumigated with 3 g/m3 aluminium phosphide for 72 hours in airtight plastic boxes (1 m x 1 m x 1 m), the mortalities of mite were over 90% for Namdo garlics.

Damaged Aspects, Seasonal Fluctuations, and Attractivity of Various Colors on Liriomyza trifolii Burgess (Diptera: Agromyzidae) in Gerbera (거베라에서 아메리카잎굴파리의 가해양상, 발생소장 및 색상별 유인량)

  • The rate of gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii Bolus.) leaf damaged by Liriomyza trifolii larvae was lower than that by adults. The adults began to be attracted to yellow sticky trap immediately after transplanting and increased gradually up to early August followed by low population density from middle to late August. In the second year, adults began to be attracted from late April after transplanting and increased abrubtly from middle May and the high density was maintained till early truly. The density decreased, however, from middle July, and then followed by the high density again early September and late October The seasonal fluctuations of larva and pupa were similar to that of adults and the peaks of pupa occurred one week later than that of larvae. Larva infected by parasitoid were observed 4 weeks after transplanting. Parasitism was 65% in average from early July to late August but decreased to 50% from early September. Number of trapped adults was the highest in the yellow sticky trap among the five different colour raps. Catches at 30~60 cm above soil surface were significantly greater than that at 90 cm.

A Study of Functional Impairment in Social Phobia (사회공포증 환자의 기능장애에 관한 연구)

  • This study was aimed to investigate the nature of functional impairment in social phobia and the correlation between the functional impairment and the duration of the disease, and the severity of the symptoms. In 66 patients with social phobia, the functional impairments were assessed with the SDS(Sheehan's disability scale) and the LSRDS(Liebowitz self-rated disability scale), and the severity of the symptoms was assessed with the SPS(social phobia scale). The results were summarized as follow : 1) Most of the social phobic patients reported moderate to severe impairment in their lives in areas of education, employment, family relationships, romantic relationships, social networks, and other interests, etc. 2) There was a significant correlation between the severity of the symptoms and the disability in their lives. 3) The offensive social phobic patients reported that they had more disability in their lives and more severe symptoms than non-offensive patients did. 4) There was no significant correlation between the duration of disease and the disability in their lives. Conclusively, we confirmed that social phobia was associated with the functional impairment in most areas of their lives.

  • This study investigated seasonal occurrence of Frankliniella occidentalis and its damage on chrysanthemum from 1999 to 2000. F. occidentalis adults were attracted to yellow sticky traps from early April to harvesting time in the field. The highest densities were observed from late April to mid-June in spring culture and from mid-August (just after transplanting) to early September in autumn culture respectively. Seasonal fluctuation in a PVC green house was similar to that in the field. Number of insects per flower were higher in the green house than that in the field. Leaf damages due to the insects were observed from mid-May and increased as chrysanthemum grows (R$^2$ = 0.9200-0.9887$\^$**/, p> 0.01).

  • The banana insect pest species and their damages were surveyed from 9 vinyl hoses of Cheju Island on August in 18. A total of 5 pest species wre found ; banana root weevil (BRW) Cosmopolites sordidus Germar (Curculionidae) a wireworm Melonotus sp. (Elateridae), a spider mite teranychid sp. (Tetranychidae), mulberry mealybud Pseudococcus comstocki (Kuwana)(Pseudococcidae), and common cutworm Spodoptera litura (Fabricius)(Noctuidae). Among them, the BRW which attacked the rhizome of banana plant was newly recorded from Korea. It is assumed that the weevil would be introduced from Japan, Philippine or SriLan-Ka wiht the banana seedlings imported during early 1980's.

Occurrence Pattern of Insect Pests on Several Varieties of Potato (감자 품종별 해충 발생 양상)

  • Occurrence pattern of major insect pests on 7 recommended potato cultivars in Korea was investigated from sowing to harvesting time at Kangneung and Daegwallyung experiment fields in 1996. Green peach aphid (Mym persicae Sulzer), potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae Thomas) and beet armyworm (Spodoptera enigua Hubner) were the major insect pests on potato leaves, and wireworm (Selatosomus puncticollis Mot.) was the major pest on tubers. There was a slight difference of average number of aphids per 50 leaves among cultivars; ranged from 22.7 on cv. Dejima to 46.3 on cv. Superior. Numbers of leaves damaged by beet armyworm larvae on cv. Shepody and cv. Jopung were 11.0 and 14.3, and these cultivars are thought to be resistant against the larvae infestation. However, degree of damage on cv. Dejima and cv. Namsuh was higher 10 times than cv. Shepody and cv. Jopung. In wireworm, the percentage of damaged tubers on cv. Irish Cobbler was lowest of 8.1%, and followed by cv. Superior, cv. Dejima, cv. Jopung, and cv. Atlantic. Whereas, those on cv. Namsuh and cv. Shepody were significantly high of 50.0% and 46.8%.

Injury Characteristics of Allium Leafminer, Acrolepiopsis sapporensis (Lepidoptera: Acrolepiidae) in Welsh Onion and Damage Assessment According to Larval Density Levels during Summer (대파에서 파좀나방 가해 특성과 여름기간동안 유충밀도에 따른 피해해석)

  • This study was conducted to assess damage to the welsh onion by Acrolepiopsis sapporensis Mastumura (Lepidoptera: Acrolepiidae) during the summer season, and to estimate the economic injury level (EIL) which results, providing basic data for pest management. The adult peaks of A. sapporensis in Suwon were observed in March, April, May, and September of 2009 and 2010 through the use of pheromone traps. The feeding of A. sapporensis results in white lines on the surface, and holes within welsh onions. During the entire larval period, one larva was able to damage 1.6 leaves and punch 11.9 holes, resulting in a total damaged leaf area of $1,321.6mm^2$. Through cage experiments and larval releases, a reduction of the mean number of leaves, increased percentage of leaf damage, and reduction in gross weight and marketable weight were observed. We could obtain a regression equation that showed a clear positive correlation between pest density and percentage of damaged leaf. Using this equation, the EIL of A. sapporensis on welsh onion was calculated to one larva per 10 plants based on 7% leaf damage observed for welsh onion.

Surveys on Ginseng Damage by Insect and Other Animal Pests (인삼 포장에서 발생하는 해충의 종류와 피해 양상)

  • Surveys were conducted in 66 ginseng fields damaged by insect and other an~mal pests from 1984 to 1993. Holohichio rnoroso, Holotrichio dromphalio, Holotrichia titonis Malodera orientaliq Ectinus sericeus, Gyllotalpa ofricana, Teleog~iluse mmo, Ostrinio furnacoii* Agrotis tokionis, Marnestro brassicae, Hydrellia griseolo, unidentified stem maggo$, Pseudococcus comstocki (13 species of insects). Deroceras uarions (slug), Acusta despecta sieboldiona (snail), probably two species of rats. and pheasant species were ascertained to damage ginseng plants M them, Holotrich~a morosa, Holotrichia diomphalia, Gryliotaipo africanq Deroceras uarions, Acusto despech siebaldiano showed higher frequencies. Underground (root) damage occul~ed mainly in spring penod (MayJune) and fall period (September-Odober) in 2-year-old glnseng fields at slopes, and aboveground (leaf and stem) damage occurred mainly in spring period in 3 or more-year-old ginseng iields mulched with rice straws at plains. Three ginseng fields were abolished due to heavy underground damage.
