  • The number of stepfamilies is rapidly growing in our society according to social changes. So family programs especially for stepfamily relationship enforcement with adolescents at home are needed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the direction of family programs for enforcing the stepfamily relationship between stepparents and stepchildren. For the purpose, case studies from those stepfamilies were analyzed through qualitative interviews and early developed program contens were referred. Based on discussion mentioned above, program development direction for stepfamily relationship enforcement is not only dealing with difficulties of stepfamilies in their early remarriage but also emphasizing their advantages. In conclusion, this program development direction expected stepfamilies to resolve their problems and to prevent their family break up as well as to deliver practical benefits.

  • The purpose of this convergence study was to evaluate and to identify predictors of health-related quality of life(HRQoL) of families with cancer survivor(FCS) focusing on the comparison of families with cancer patient(FCP) receiving treatments. The research was conducted with the data for 153 FCS and 115 FCP taken from the 6th wave of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The independent variables included socio-demographic, health related, psychological and social factors. The data were analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 18.0. The results showed different patterns of predictors on the HRQoL of FCS and FCP. In FCS, the statistically significant factors were stress(${\beta}=-.192$, p<.05) and exclusion from economic activities(${\beta}=-.191$, p<.05). Therefore, families of cancer patients also need appropriate interventions for each stage of the disease.

The independent variables are divided into four sets: socio-economic, clinical, familial, and social characteristics. The subjects of this study are the 628 with mental disorders, and the sample was selected in Pusan and Gyeong-nam area. The findings of this study can be summarized as followed: The family with chronic mental illness showed higher family function in comparison with recent onset. Result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis show that age of onset, difference between ideal and reality in family function variable only influenced family function for the recent onset group, and activities of daily living, difference between ideal and reality in family function, caregiver's health, community support variables influenced family function for the chronic group. The results suggest a need for using different treatment approaches for recent onset versus chronic mentally disabled families. Implications for mental health social work practice for family with disabled are suggested.
