Social Support, Depression, Self-esteem Influences on Life Satisfaction of Disability in Aging (노년기 장애인 삶의 만족에 영향을 미치는 사회적 지지, 자아존중감, 우울의 구조적 관계: 노령화 장애인과 노인성 장애인의 비교)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the elderly with disability focused on comparison between aging with disability and disability with aging in Korea. Disability in older age has been related to several psychosocial characteristics, including social support, self-esteem, life satisfaction and depression. However, the exact role of these characteristics in the disablement process remains uncertain and this study focused on comparison between aging with disability and disability with aging in Korea. This study analyzed the 12th wave (2017) KWPS(Korean Welfare Panel Study)and Disability Study which included 692 elderly with disability aged 65 and over. The data were processed by SEM and multi-group SEM analysis. The findings were as follows; First, family support and the significant others support showed direct effects on the life satisfaction of the elderly with disability. Second, family support and the significant others support reduced the level of depression and enhanced self-esteem and finally impact on the life satisfaction of the elderly with disability. The formal support enhanced the depression and reduced self-esteem and eventually reduced the life satisfaction. Third, the disability with aging group showed more higher perception and more experience of formal support and formal service and more higher depression than the aging with disability group. Forth, the significant others support on life satisfaction only showed significance in disability with aging group and depression had significance in disability with aging group. Finally, aging with disability group showed positive effects on the formal support of life satisfaction but showed negative effects on the depression and self-esteem. Based on these findings, practical implications of future directions for research are discussed.

Influence of Subjective Health Status, Social Activity and Family Support on Subjective Quality of Life of Elderly in a Community (일 지역 노인의 주관적 건강상태, 사회활동, 가족지지가 주관적 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was identify the effective factors on the subjective quality of life of the elderly. The data were collected on September 4, the subjects were 201 elderly who participated in the 1004day event in B metropolitan city. The data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test. Pearson's correlation coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The level of subjective quality of life was affected by general characteristics including education level(F=5.87, p=.001), living with whom(F=4.39, p=.005), perceived economic state(F=16.25, p<.001). The subjective quality of life of the elderly showed a positive correlation with subjective health status, social activity and family support. According to the result of multiple regression analysis, Factors affecting the subjective quality of life is subjective economic status, living with whom, family support and, social activities, it was explained by 23.6%. Based on these findings in order to improve the subjective quality of life of the elderly by developing improved family support programs and various social activities program proposes to apply.

Influence of Non-compliance of Treatment and Family Support on Depression in Diabetic Patients with Hypoglycemia (저혈당을 경험한 당뇨병 환자의 치료지시 불이행, 가족지지가 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to identify the effective factors on the Depression in Diabetic patients with hypoglycemia. This study used 119 questionnaires from Diabetic patients with hypoglycemia in B city to collect data from October 1, 2015 to March 15, 2016. Data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test. Pearson's correlation coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The Depression in Diabetic patients with hypoglycemia showed a positive correlation with Non-Compliance of Treatment(r=42, p<.001), a negative correlation with Family support(r=-.38, p<.001). According to the result of multiple regression analysis, the significant factors influencing depression were Family support(${\beta}=-.29$, p<.001), Drug therapy(${\beta}=.21$, p=.020), Dietetic therapy(${\beta}=.23$, p=.014), Monthly average income over 3,000,000won (${\beta}=-.20$, p=.014), Monthly average income 2,000-3,000 thousand(${\beta}=-.17$, p=.033), it was explained by 30.0%. Based on these findings, it is suggested to develop and apply a family support program to reduce the depression of diabetic patients with hypoglycemia.

A Qualitative Study on Family Resilience Process in Family of Children with ADHD (ADHD 자녀를 둔 가족의 가족탄력성 과정에 대한 질적연구)

  • This study was conducted as a general qualitative study method to explore the family resilience process in family of children with ADHD. To do this, I interviewed 12 mothers of children diagnosed with ADHD. In the results of the analysis, first, Participants were adapting through human resources systems such as homeroom teachers, academy teachers, and child support agencies. Second, Participants perceived a change in positive perspective and a child's growth through family support. Suggestions for the results are as follows. first, the establishment of a cooperative support system with homeroom teachers as a strengthening of the support system for parents with school-age ADHD children. Second, It is necessary to develop and apply programs to increase family resilience. Third, It should support the creation of self-help groups to expand the human resources system. This study is meaningful in that it identifies the process of family resilience and suggests alternatives.

The Effect of Social Support of Parents of children with Disabilities on Family Function : Mediating effect of disability (장애 아동 부모의 사회적지지가 가족기능에 미치는 영향: 장애수용의 매개효과와 경제적 안정감의 조절효과)

  • This study seeks to discuss the effects of social support, acceptance of disability, and the sense of economic stability on the part of parents of children with developmental disabilities who are receiving treatment and training at a child development center has on family function. A survey was given to 252 parents of children who were using the child development center in S city. In the relationship between social support and family function, the mediating effects of the disability acceptance and the social support, the disability acceptance and the family function were used to verify the adjustment effect of the economic stability. The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of checking the moderating effect of economic stabilization, social support, family function, disability acceptance and family function did not show any effect on economic stability. Second, as a result of verifying whether the relationship between social support and family function is mediated by disability acceptance, disability acceptance partially mediated the relationship between social support and family function. This study is significant in that it provided basic data for the development of a program to help children with developmental disabilities function properly.

Influence of Self-Efficacy and Social Support on Test Anxiety among Nursing Students Taking the National Examination for Registered Nurses (국가고시를 앞둔 간호대학생의 자기효능감과 사회적지지가 시험불안에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to examine the effects of self-efficacy and social support on test anxiety among nursing students taking the National Examination for Registered Nurses. A convenience sample of 212 nursing students was obtained from three nursing colleges. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire during December 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlations and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0. The mean score for test anxiety was located in the middle range, with the score of $2.84{\pm}0.53$; those for self-efficacy and social support were located higher in the 1-5 scale, each scoring $3.50{\pm}0.54$ and $3.72{\pm}0.48$. Test anxiety correlated negatively with self-efficacy (r=-.32, p<.001), social support (r=-.27, p<.001), friends support (r=-.21, p=.002), family support (r=-.25, p<.001) and professor support (r=-.14, p=.038). Self-efficacy, family support and gender explained 13.0% of participants' test anxiety (F=11.01, p<.001). Findings from this study suggests that improving the self-efficacy and family support will be helpful for nursing students to relieve their test anxiety.

A Contemporaneous and Lagged Effects of Social Supports on Self-esteem Development Trajectory of Multicultural Adolescents (다문화 가정 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지가 자아존중감 발달궤적에 미치는 동시효과와 지연효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the changing trajectory of self-esteem and to explore contemporaneous and lagged effects of social supports(family, friends, and teacher) of 4th graders in elementary school to 9th graders in middle school. The subjects were 1,296 multiethnic students, who participated in the Multicultural Children and Adolescents Panel Study(MCAPS) from 2011 to 2016. The results of piecewise growth function showed that students' self-esteem was increased during upper grade in elementary school but soon deceased during middle school. Individual differences were found at initial, 1st and 2nd changing status. Students with higher level at initial status in self-esteem showed less increased pattern during elementary school but greater decreased pattern during middle school. In addition, supports from family and teacher showed contemporaneous effects across all 6 years while supports from friends showed such effects only for 5 years except 9th grade. Lagged effects of family were found in elementary school and significant lagged effects with supports from friends were found at 6th and 8th grade. The results of this study imply that the social support of family, friends, and teacher has an important role to encourage the self-esteem of multicultural adolescents.

  • This study used the fifth additional data of the panel research on security for the aged conducted by National Pension Research Institute in 2014, and studied the level of satisfaction about life targeting 7,763 middle- and old-aged people in their 50s or older. Social support, one of the influential factors on satisfaction about life, had a positive impact on satisfaction about life, and material support and emotional support were found to have a big influence.

  • Although the hotel industry in China has shown great growth both quantitatively and qualitatively, there is a lack of management of employees who represent hotels in direct contact with customers. Therefore, this study examined the social support of Chinese 4, 5 star hotel employees in Shanghai as supervisory support, coworker support, and family support, and examined whether the social support of employees improves resilience and affects their psychological well-being. In order to analyze this, we surveyed 322 employees of Shanghai 4, 5 star hotels in China. Empirical analysis showed that supervisory support and family support had a positive effect on their resilience, while coworker support did not. In addition, the resilience of hotel employees has a positive effect on their psychological well-being. This study aims to provide a better understanding of social support and resilience, and to provide effective management of human resources management.

The Relationship Between the Parenting Stress and Psychological Well-Being of A Mother Having A Child with Autism (자폐성 장애아동 어머니의 양육스트레스와 심리적 안녕감 관계 연구)

  • This study aims at exploring an effective way for social welfare in order to promote psychological well-being of a mother having a child with autism. To achieve this purpose, this study examined the related factors of parenting stress, family functioning, social support, and redefinition of family affecting psychological well-being of a mother having a child with austin by way of applying the Double ABCX model. A survey was conducted with a sample of 207 mothers having a child with autism in Daegu. Results from the survey are as follows: First, there were significant impacts of parenting stress on social support, family functioning, the redefinition of family on crisis situation, and psychological well-being. Second, family functioning and social support had no significant effect on mothers' psychological well-being, while the redefinition of family on crisis situation had significant influences on the psychological well-being of mothers having a child with autism. Third, it turned out that family functioning, social support, and the redefinition of family on crisis situation played a mediating role between parenting stress and psychological well-being. Based on these results, this study suggests that family functioning should be strengthened for promoting psychological well-being of mothers having a child with autism. We should construct and provide social supports in multilateral aspects and help mothers having a child with autism positively recognize stressful situations and improve their capacities to overcome them as well.
