  • The purpose of this study was to develop practical problem-based home economics teaching.learning process plans about a unit 'the youth and consumer life' of middle school eighth-grade Technology and Home Economics by applying blended learning(BL) strategy. According to ADDIE instructional design model, this study was conducted in the following procedure: analysis, design/development, implementation, and evaluation. In the stage of design and development, the selected unit was converted into a practical problem-based unit, and practical problem-based teaching. learning process plans were designed in detail by using BL strategy. An online study room for practical problem-based home economics instruction grounded in BL strategy was prepared by using Edunet(http://community.edunet4u.net/${\sim}$consumer2). Eight-session lesson plans were mapped out, and study aids for students and materials for teachers were prepared. In the implementation stage, the first-session teaching plans that dealt with a minor question 'what preparations should be made to become a wise consumer' were utilized when instruction was provided to 115 eighth graders who were in three different province, and the other one was in a middle school in the city of Daejeon. The experimental teaching was implemented for two weeks in the following procedure: preliminary program, pre-online learning, main instruction and post- online learning. The preliminary program was carried out in a session in the classroom, and pre-online learning was provided before the main instruction was given in a session in the classroom. After the main instruction was completed, post-online learning was offered. In the evaluation stage, a survey was conducted on all the learners and teachers to find out their opinions and suggestions.

  • This study analyzed the change of after-school guardians' absence types during the first 3 school years, and the relations of after-school care, family environment(family income, parental monitoring) to self-regulatory learning ability and emotional-behavioral problems in each gender of early school-age children from dual income families. The data from 526 boys and 483 girls among 3rd graders of Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) were statistically analyzed by Friedman's test, t-test, correlational coefficient analysis, regression analysis. The results showed that 45% of boys and 50% of girls were with a guardian for their after-school care in each of the first 3 school years and after-school care had changed gradually into the types of temporal or contingent absence of a guardian. Family income and children's self-regulatory learning ability were different from adult-care and self-care in each gender, but there were differences in the parental monitoring of girls and emotional-behavioral problems of boys according to the care types. Both of boys and girls showed that family environment meaningfully related with the ability and the problems, and also showed the relatively different effects of after-school care and family environment on those ability and problems variables. The results suggested some implications for after-school care.

  • This study developed an 'Eco-friendly Clothing Life Cycle' class applying gamification. And the effect of and learners' satisfaction on the class were examined after implementation. The developed class was applied to 40 sophomore students from "A" high school in Gyeonggi-do from February 3, 2022, to February 10, 2022, in a total of 4 sessions. The class was conducted in the stages of production-distribution-consumption-disposal, and was conducted in a way that a mission is solved after learning in Gather Town. It is designed so that learners continuously repeat learning until they accomplish the mission. The learners completed pre-class and post-class questionnaires. And a focus group interview was conducted with a randomly selected group of three learners. According to the pre-/post-class test comparison, the gamification class on the theme of "Eco-friendly Clothing Life Cycle" was found not to have a significant effect on learners' immersion or self-directed learning attitudes. However, in the case of the learners with high levels of non-immersion tendency, the level of immersion in the class increased, and the satisfaction level was positively associated with the level of immersion and self-directed attitude. Learners expressed 'concern' and 'expectation' about the gamification class, and said that although the developed class was using a 'new teaching method', 'appropriate use' was necessary. And learners were evaluated this class as a 'student-centered class' and acknowledged that it allowed 'self-directed learning'. The teacher who implemented the class said that this class was more effective in attracting students' expectations and interests compared to the conventional classes, and that the class in the meta-verse environment was perceived as a new type of class in the non-face-to-face era. The teacher also mentioned that when applied to the actual educational field, a detailed design is needed that allows the learners to proceed smoothly, and the role of the teacher in the class was more important. And the teacher also mentioned that the class should be properly designed so that the expectations given by the 'game' do not obscure the essence of the class.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the Home Economics(HE) Flipped Problem-Based Learning(FPBL) education plans focusing on 'food selection and storage' unit for middle school students. The results of this study are as follows. First, middle school students who participated in the class had mainly experienced lecture-style classes previously, but they preferred group activity classes to lecture-style classes. Their 'preferred on-line class tools' was 'Miricanvas', and the 'helpful on-line class tools for learning' was 'Tinkerbell'. Second, the HE FPBL education plan was designed and developed to conduct block time classes, twice a week for 3 weeks by applying the '13 stages of FPBL'. The main topic of the class is "food selection and storage that protects health and the environment". The practical and unstructured problems in the FPBL was to participate in the 'Food Selection and Storage to Protect Health and Environment' mission development contest of a TV entertainment program. Learning materials(stepping video, reading materials, activity sheets, and evaluation tools for process-based evaluation) were developed. The 206 senior students at a middle school in Haeundae-gu, Busan, took the class for three weeks and evaluated it as a good class that helps them learn, is satisfactory, interesting, and suitable, leads to class participation, and is differentiated from other teaching methods.
