The Development and Evaluation of a Nutrition Education Program for Preschoolers Focused on Family-linked Cooking Activity (가정연계 요리활동 중심의 유아 영양교육 프로그램 개발과 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the nutrition education program for preschoolers focusing on family-linked cooking activities. After a pilot study and consultations of experts, a program(composed of twelve lessons) that was emphasized the right season food and cooking activities based on the social cognitive theory was developed. The lessons once-a-month and survey(pre and pro) were conducted to 29 preschoolers. The distribution of children was 72.5 months(mean age). The post-survey after the program was found to have significantly higher effects on nutrition knowledge and diet habits than the comparative group. Through this, the nutrition education program for preschoolers based on family-linked cooking activities developed in this study is effective in improving preschoolers' nutrition knowledge and diet habits, and provides grounds and implications for applying family-linked cooking activities to nutrition education.

The Effects of Family Related Cooking Programs on Young Children's Basic Science Concepts and Mathematics Abilities (가정과 연계된 요리활동이 유아의 기초과학개념 및 수학능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of family related cooking programs on young children's basic science concepts and mathematics abilities. Subjects were 24 five-year-old children, 12 each for the experimental and the control group. Examinations of basic science concepts and mathematics abilities were applied to determine the homogeneity of the two groups. The 23 cooking activities, 12 for kindergarten and 11 for each child's home, were applied to the experimental group for six-week periods. The results of this study were that the family related cooking programs were effective in the formation of children's basic science concepts and children's mathematics abilities.

Home Economics related Programs from the First Pilot Schools implementing the Free Learning Semester (자유학기제 1차 연구학교의 가정교과 관련 운영 실태)

  • The purpose of this paper was to understand the outlines of 1) common and free curricula implemented by the first pilot schools and 2) Home Economics related programs from both curricula. This study analyzed the 42 reports from the first pilot schools which implemented the free learning semester in 2013. The results showed that more than half of schools set two or more emphasis models of the free learning semester. In 15 out of 28 schools, the lesson hours of Home Economics were reduced by one to three hours. Various common curricula were implemented in many aspects of teaching-learning methods, curriculum, evaluation, and subject related career lessons. Free curriculum was implemented in four areas such as career exploration, student optional program, club activity, and art sports activity. In common curriculum, Home Economics was carried out in 17 out of 39 schools. The Home Economics class included subject related career lessons and improvement of teaching- learning methods. Various interesting activities and programs as a free curriculum were implemented in career exploration, students' optional program, and club activities in 38 schools. The most frequently implemented was the activity program related to food and nutrition. Further research was proposed to develop students' optional programs related to Home Economics subject, responding to their needs.

Development and Evaluation of the Home Economics-Relevant Korean Culture Experience Program for Adolescents with Multicultural Backgrounds - for the Improvement of Self-Identity and Social Adaptation - (가정교과가 연계된 다문화가정 청소년의 한국문화 체험 프로그램의 개발과 평가 - 자아정체감 및 사회적응력 향상을 위하여 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the home economics-relevant program on Korean traditional culture for adolescents from multicultural families for them for experience it directly, set up ego-identity and improve social adaptability. Further, we checked the effectiveness and efficiency of the developed program. First we developed the program composed of a total of 12 sessions based on experiencing Korean culture. It consists of largely 5 madang(parts) centered on themes such as Eowool madang, Hangeul madang, Play madang, Cooking madang and hostory madang. We ran the developed program for 3 months targeting a total of 18 persons composed of the adolescents from multicultural families and their mothers residing in S city of eastern area of Jeonnam province. We measured the participants' ego-identity, social adaptibility and participation satisfaction to examine the effectiveness of the program. The results of pre-test, post-test and satisfaction which are evaluation instruments used in this program are as follows. First, it appeared that the self-identity of the adolescent of multicultural families inceased by 0.30 from average score of 3.03 before the participation in the program to 3.33 after the participation. Social adaptability increased by 0.30 from average 3.11 before the participation to 3.41 after the participation. Second, in the program participation satisfaction, it appeared that first the middle satisfaction marked average 3.30 which exceeded median value at 3.00, meaning a little high satisfaction, whereas the final satisfaction had an averagescore of 4.03, which means a big satisfaction concerning the program participation. The results indicated that the home economics-relevant program was effective in improving the ego-identity and social adaptability of adolescents from multicultural families and supporting a role of as a member of Korean family.
