P-wave Velocity Analysis Around the BSR Using Wide-angle Ocean-bottom Seismic Data (해저면 광각 탄성파 탐사자료를 이용한 BSR 부근의 P파 속도 분석)

  • In April 2008, KIGAM carried out an ocean-bottom seismometer (OBS) survey in the central Ulleung Basin where strong bottom simulating reflectors (BSRs) were revealed from previous surveys and some gas-hydrate samples were retrieved by direct sampling. The purpose of this survey is to estimate the velocity structure near the BSR in the gas hydrate prospect area using wide-angle seismic data recorded on the ocean-bottom seismometers. Along with the OBS survey, a 2-D seismic survey was performed whereby stratigraphic and preliminary velocity information was obtained. Two methods were applied to wide-angle data for estimating P wave velocity; one is velocity analysis in the $\tau$-p domain and the other is seismic traveltime inversion. A 1-D interval velocity profile was obtained by the first method, which was refined to layered velocity structure by the latter method. A layer stripping method was adopted for modeling and inversion. All velocity profiles at each OBS site clearly show velocity reversal at BSR depths due to the presence of gas hydrates. In addition, we could confirm high velocity in the column/chimney structure.

Seismic Evidence and Characteristics of Gas Hydrate in the Ulleung Basin (탄성파 자료에서 나타난 울릉분지내 가스수화물의 증거와 특성)

  • Multichannel seismic profiles reveal a strong bottom simulating reflector (BSR) occurring below the seafloor in the plain of the Ulleung Basin, East Sea (Japan Sea). The essential characteristics of the BSR include its cross-cutting relationship to strata, strong amplitude, and reverse polarity with respect to the seafloor reflection, representing the base of the gas hydrate stability zone (BHSZ). The BSR reflection coefficient ranging from -0.23 to -0.26 is 1.5${\sim}$1.7 times that of the seafloor reflection and interval velocities decrease to less than 700 m/s below the BSR. These features indicate the existence of free gas beneath the GHSZ. Heat flow, estimated from the BSR depth as $95{\sim}98mW/m^2$, is in good agreement with measured values. Therefore, the BSR can be efficiently used to estimate regional distribution of heat flow in the Ulleung Basin.

  • In this study, the water distribution in the cathode side of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is visualized using a neutron imaging technique at the Neutron Radiography Facility (NRF), KAERI. It is difficult to quantify the water content in the cathode side because of $CO_2$ gas. A compared open circuit voltage (OCV) image, relative $CO_2$, and water distribution can be visualized by the neutron imaging technique. This means that the neutron imaging technique is useful for the optimization of the flow field design and the establishment of water management, and, in turn, for the improvement of the cell performance.

  • It was designed and tested at the design point that an oxidizer rich preburner for a staged combustion liquid rocket engine propelled by kerosene and LOx. The oxidizer rich preburner was designed as some of LOx injected from the mixing head was burned with kerosene and the rest of LOx injected from injection holes in the regenerative cooling chamber was vaporized by combustion gas. The preburner is operated at OF ratio of 60 and combustion pressure of 20 MPa. The Preburner has a honey-comb type mixing head with simplex swirl injectors, a turbulence ring improving combustion stability and uniformity of product gas temperature distribution, and a nozzle simulating the duct. With the combustion test results at the design point, the oxidizer rich preburner showed high combustion stability and uniformity of product gas temperature distribution.

  • Accidents are steadily occurring due to machine defects and carelessness during LNG storage operations. In previous studies, an environmental sensor module capable of measuring pressure, temperature, gas concentration, and flow to detect danger in advance was developed and the response speed according to the amount of leaked gas was measured. This paper proposes the development of a wired and wireless communication module that transmits data measured by the environmental sensor module to embedded devices connected to wired and wireless networks of SPI, UART, and LTE. First, a data communication module capable of interworking with an environmental sensor is designed. Design a protocol between devices in the Local Control Part and wired and wireless protocols in the Local Control Part and Remote Control Part. Ethernet, WiFi, and LTE communication modules were designed, and UART and SPI channels that can be linked with embedded controllers were designed. As a result, it was confirmed through a UI (User Interface) that each embedded device transmits data measured by the environmental sensor module while simultaneously communicating on a wired and wireless basis.

500 W급 고리형 홀추력기의 자기장 구조에 따른 추력 특성 연구

  • 홀 플라즈마 엔진은 인공위성의 궤도유지 및 자세제어 등의 임무수행이나 우주선의 심우주 활용에 있어 필수적인 핵심 우주 부품이다. 홀추력기 연구개발의 최근 큰 관심사는 추력기의 장시간 운전성 확보 및 방전효율 향상이다. 최근 고리형 홀추력기에서 방전 영역 내 플라즈마와 유전체 벽 간의 충돌을 줄임으로써 전극 손상 및 전자온도 손실을 감소시키기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히 전자석 코일을 활용해 방전 채널 벽면과 평행한 방향의 자기장을 형성하여 플라즈마와 유전체 벽 간의 상호작용을 감소시키는 연구들이 소개되고 있으며, 이러한 방법을 자기차폐(magnetic shielding)라 한다. 본 연구에서는 자기차폐 개념이 적용된 방전 소모전력 500 W급 고리형 홀추력기의 방전 및 추력 발생 특성을 연구하였다. 자기장구조 제어를 통해 유전체 벽과 플라즈마 간 상호작용을 감소시킨 결과, 500 V 수준의 방전 전압에서도 유전체 벽에서의 이차전자 발생에 의한 방전전류의 급격한 증가없이 안정적인 방전이 가능하였으며, 이러한 방전 형태는 기존의 자기차폐 개념이 적용되지 않은 일반 고리형 홀 추력기에서 구현하기 어려운 방전 상태이다. 추력기의 자기장 구조 최적화 조건에서 제논 가스 방전을 통해 얻은 최대 추력은 $22{\pm}1mN$, 비추력 $2200{\pm}70s$, 양극효율 $51{\pm}2%$로 매우 우수한 성능을 보여 주었다

  • $SiO_2$ 패시베이션 층에 As+ 이온을 주입한 1.2 kV급 AlGaN/GaN 쇼트키 장벽 다이오드( Schottky Barrier Diode, SBD )를 제작하였다. 주입된 As+ 이온들은 역방향 바이어스에서 공핍 영역의 곡률을 변화 시켰고, 이로 인해 항복 전압이 증가하고 누설 전류가 감소하였다. 제안된 소자의 항복전압이 1204 V 이었고, 기존 소자의 항복전압은 604 V 이었다. 캐소드 전압이 100 V일 때 제안된 소자의 누설전류는 21.2 nA/mm 이었고, 같은 조건에서 제안된 소자는 $80.3{\mu}A/mm$ 이었다. 주입된 As+ 양이온은 이차원 전자 가스( Two-Dimensional Electron Gas, 2DEG )에 전자를 유도했고, 채널의 농도가 미세하게 증가하였다. 따라서 순방향 전류가 증가하였다.

Investigation on the Liquid Water Droplet Instability in a Simulated Flow Channel of PEMFC (고분자전해질형 연료전지의 유로 채널 모사를 통한 단일 액적의 불안정성 관찰)

  • To investigate the characteristics of water droplet on the gas diffusion layer from both top-view and side-view of the flow channel, a rig test apparatus was designed and fabricated with prism attached plate. This experimental device is used to simulate the growth of single liquid water droplet and its transport process with various air flow velocity and channel height. The contact angle hysteresis and height of water droplet are measured and analyzed. It is found that droplet tends towards to be instable by decreasing channel height, increasing flow velocity or making GDL more hydrophobic. Also, the simplified force balance model matches with experimental data only in a restricted range of operating conditions and shows discrepancy as the air flow velocity and channel height increases.

  • 갈륨-질화물 (GaN) 기반의 고 전자 이동도 트랜지스터 (High Electron Mobility Transistor, HEMT)는 GaN의 큰 밴드갭 (3.4~6.2 eV), 높은 항복전계 (Ec~3 MV/cm) 및 높은 전자 포화 속도 (saturation velocity $-107\;cm{\cdot}s-1$) 특성과 AlGaN/GaN 등과 같은 이종접합구조(Heterostructure )로부터 발생하는 높은 면밀도(Sheet Concentration)를 갖는 이차원 전자가스(Two-Dimensional Electron Gas, 2DEG) 채널로 인해 차세대 고출력/고전압 소자로서 각광받고 있다. 하지만 드레인 쪽의 게이트 에지부분에 집중되는 전계로 인한 애벌린치 할복현상(Breakdown)이 발생하는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 AlGaN/GaN HEMT의 항복전압 향상을 위한 방법으로 필드플레이트(Field-Plate) 구조가 많이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 2D 시뮬레이션을 통한 AlGaN/GaN HEMT의 필드플레이트 구조 최적화를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 ATLASTM 전산모사 프로그램을 이용하여 필드플레이트 길이, 절연체 증류 및 두께에 따른 전류 전압 특성 및 전계 분산효과에 대한 전산모사를 수행하여 그 결과를 비교, 분석 하였다, 이를 바탕으로 기존의 구조에 비해 약 300%이상 향상된 항복전압을 갖는 AlGaN/GaN HEMT의 최적화된 필드 플레이트 구조를 제안하였다.

  • A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is performed to investigate flow characteristics in the anode channels and manifold of the internal reforming type molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). Considering the computational difficulties associated with the size and geometric complexity of the MCFC system, the polyhedral meshes that can reduce mesh connectivity problems at the intersection of the channel and the manifold are adopted and chemical reactions inside the MCFC system are not included. Through this study, the gas flow rate uniformity of the anode channels is mainly analyzed to provide basic insights into improved design parameters for anode flow channel design. Results indicate that the uniformity in flow-rate is in the range of ${\pm}$1% between the anode channels. Also, the mal-distributed inlet flow-rate conditions and the change in the size of the manifold depth have no significant effect on the flow-rate uniformity of the anode channels.
