A Study on the correlation between a streetscape image and a signboard density - Focused on roadside buildings occupation density of signboard in the business area - (가로경관이미지와 간판밀도와의 상관관계에 관한 연구 - 상업지역 연도건물의 간판 점유밀도를 중심으로 -)

  • The street image in a business area is so much affected by Facade that the front side of a roadside building makes. Recently, for the indiscreet and intemperate advertising signboard of the front side of roadside buildings, a streetscape becomes more disordered than before, so now we need to do research about signboards of roadside buildings for a streetscape image. In this research, we focused on a streetscape with difference of occupation density of signboard in the business area via investigation and analysis about occupation density of signboards of the front side of roadside buildings, and we suggested optimum occupation density of signboards for supporting the road image positively. An object of research is the street in the business area that has many pedestrians and active passing zone of cars. We investigated and analyzed how to feel street images on the rate of occupation density of roadside building's signboards of in the chosen street. As a result of using an adjective that we use for estimating street view images for extraction of street images, we could know 2 factors. We named that one is the image of recognition, and the other is the image of feelings. We knew that signboard density of street of heavily recognized images is from 20% to 30% and, signboard density of street of heavily feeling images is from 50% to 60%. We also could know that people feel both images of recognition and images of feeling in specific density, 30 to 50%. Through this result of research, we can suggest Facade on signboard density with the recognition and the feeling and use images of the street view as materials to be more specific and more special.

Evaluation of Streetscape by Street Planting Types using Dynamic Simulation - In the case of Ginkgo planted on the Dongdaegu-ro in Daegu - (동적 시뮬레이션을 활용한 가로수 식재유형별 가로경관 평가 - 대구광역시 동대구로 은행나무를 대상으로 -)

  • This study analyzed the preference depending on street planting types and visual characteristics on Dongdaegu-ro located in Suseong-gu, Daegu Metropolitan City. The Single Row Roadside, Central Sidewalk Plantings, Double Row Parallel and Alternate Plantings were selected as the planting types. The plantings were divided at intervals of 4, 7 and 10 meters. A survey was conducted by dynamic simulation produced from pedestrian perspective. As a result, in single planting, the single central sidewalk planting with 4 meter-interval showed a high landscape preference 4.64. In addition, in double planting, the double alternate planting with 7 meter-interval showed the highest landscape preference 5.01. The factors that had the greatest effect on the landscape preference were 'comfortable' and 'beautiful'. It was considered that they should be preferentially taken into account in producing landscapes by planting. It was considered that they should be preferentially taken into account. It is also considered that this study will be used for objective data and planting plan for establishing the comfortable and high quality streetscape by quantitative evaluation of the visual characteristics and preference according to the street planting types.

Analysis of the Priority of Evaluation Criteria and Detailed Index for Selecting Street Trees (가로수 선정 평가기준과 세부지표의 중요도 분석)

  • Street trees improve the cityscape and air quality, reduce heat islands, and create wildlife habitats. Hence, they are essential parts of a city's green infrastructure. Therefore, several trees that are well adapted to the urban environment were planted. However, this caused the problem of simple trees being planted around the world. This study is to select more various street trees. To accomplish this, evaluation criteria and detailed indexes were created. The importance was indicated through the Analytic Hierarchy Process. For commercial roads, the priority of landscape characteristics is 0.2640, and among detailed indicators, the priority of shape is 0.1245. For work roads, the priority of landscape characteristics is 0.2496, and among detailed indicators, the priority of shape is 0.1177. For work roads, the priority of characteristics of civil service is 0.2250, and among detailed indicators, the priority of shape is 0.1177. For general roads, the priority of maintenance characteristics is 0.2479, and among detailed indicators, the priority of shape is 0.1062. For historical and cultural roads, the priority of regional characteristics is 0.3488, and among detailed indicators, the priority of regional characteristics is 0.1643. For ecological roads, the priority of ecosystem characteristics is 0.3488, and among detailed indicators, the priority of the diversity of species is 0.1643. For automotive-only roads, the priority of the ecosystem characteristics is 0.4639, and among detailed indicators, the priority of reducing emissions is 0.1643. This study will provide objective criteria for the selection of street trees.

Preference Factor Analysis of Greening Plan for Under Space of Elevated Rail Track Considering Cognitive Psychological Characteristics (심리적 인지특성을 고려한 교량하부 녹화유형별 선호요인 분석)

  • This study presents a greening plan for the under space of elevated rail tracks to reducing landscape impairment and improve the streetscape. This study focuses on a section of the Daegu Metro line number 3 that includes a concentration of high-rise apartments and commercial areas. First, different types of planting were categorized for the under space of the elevated rail track, and then images of each planting type were created using a 3D simulation tool to evaluate the visual characteristics. The landscape images and related adjectives were assessed using a survey. As a result, rows of flower trees received the highest evaluation, and 'harmony' was identified as the most important factor affecting the railscape preference. These results can be important data for establishing an efficient greening plan for the under space of elevated rail tracks.

  • In the modern urban landscape design, historical and cultural factors are drawing more and more attention in addition to the factor of beauty. To evaluate an urban landscape design, it's quite important to explore the history and culture background of the city. Color of a city reflects the city characteristics and shows the city image. Color planning has become an important part of city landscape design nowadays. A harmonious landscape cannot be without a unified color planning. The color planning should take not only the integrity but also the regionality into consideration. Color planning has a profound impact on public life. This paper studies on streetscape color of two famous places which are Seoul Insa-dong and Shanghai Xintiandi. According to the empirical and comparative study, this paper will give on-site assessment and comprehensive evaluation. Furthermore, this paper will indicate the differences and similarities of the traditional Streetscape of South Korea and China, using the color theories of Korea Image Resource Institute. This survey results will be helpful to the urban landscape color planning.

An Analysis on the Visual Harmony of the Environmental Sculpture in Urban Streetscapes (도시가로 경관에 있어 환경조형물의 시각적 조화성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the basic guideline of the environmental sculptures to improve the quality level of the urban surroundings. The concept of the environmental sculptures was established and their roles in urban street scenary were investigated. And then, the relationships between the visual satisfaction and the elements which affect the visual harmony of Urban street scenary were analysed. The result of this study can be summarized as follows; The visual satisfaction was shown high at the sculptures itself with good shape and esthetic sense, and the harmony among the surroundings was estimated highly at the sculptures of good harmony with the floor surface, building and the elements surrounded it. And the highest satisfaction was shown at the scenary with the dean images and visual stability. The correlation of the degree of satisfaction with 5 variables which effect the satisfaction of urban streetscape shows that the harmony of shape is the most important variable for urban street scenary.

  • For lighting design in such diverse structures, we need lots of considerations, such as use and characteristics of the structure, harmony with its surroundings, and the function and type of lighting to be installed. The structural characteristics is determined by its shape and several vertical and horizontal factors based on the shape, which can be focused on at day time by shading, the surface structure, the quality of the surface and the color. On the other hand, they can be at night hidden in the darkness or enforced strongly by the effect of the lighting. In this paper, correlation between the ways of lighting and building facade types according to vocabularies for sensitivity is explored based upon an analysis of building facades for small-scale commerce which plays an important role in cityscape lighting design. It is considered that categorization of types of building facades, presented in this article, and the classification system of exterior lighting methods can be useful in planning lighting. And the process of the study is thought to be able to present a method about the exterior lighting planning. Furthermore, computer simulation on the bases of the correlation model of the lighting methods related to vocabularies for sensitivity about the building facade types is expected to be data and means which can be a great help for designers to predict various results quickly.
