Furniture design is no exception to human desire for pursuit of the nature. In various design fields, it has turned out nature-decorative method in the past, and also recently it has turned out bio-adaptive method which is more root design process using principal of generation in nature world. The purpose of this study is to analyze application methods and characteristics of fractal geometry and voronoi diagram which are most representative principals of generative design in nature by research on the example of furniture design using these principals. The results of having analyzed fumitures by generative design can be summarized as follows; design principals of fractal; superposition, scaling, repetition & gradation, deformation, distortion and voronoi diagram; individual speciation, variational patten, repetition gradation, ambiguous boundary create new design concept and emergent form in furniture design. Application methods are 'form emergence by algorithm', 'conventional process based on principals of generative design', and 'reproduction of pattern from generative design'. Biological reinterpretations and new explorations of principals of nature generation offer unbounded possibilities for furniture design.

셀프 인테리어와 '온라인 집들이' 열풍은 DIY 문화의 확산, 1인 가구의 증가, SNS를 통한 이미지 공유의 증가 등 다양한 문화 현상의 교차 지점에 위치한다. 본 연구는 대표적인 인테리어 정보 공유 및 커머스 플랫폼인 '오늘의 집'에 게시된 온라인 집들이의 구체적 예시를 통해 청년 1인 가구의 셀프 인테리어에 대해 고찰하였다. 경제적, 공간적, 주거 방식의 제약은 이들의 셀프 인테리어 스타일을 형성하는 데 영향을 미쳤다. 낮고, 단순하며, 가벼운 가구, 작고 저렴한 소품 및 장식들은 '내추럴' 혹은 '모던' 이라고 불리는 스타일로 포장되었다.

With the development of various smart devices specialized in work type, the concepts of office environment and office furniture are diversified. Steaming has been used for bending wood for a long time, but the steam-bent wood is subject to spring-back and a relatively large radius of curvature. Liquid ammonia is known as an excellent wood plasticizer swelling both crystal and amorphous cellulose. Liquid ammonia technique for wood plasticization was developed and applied for bending alder and padauk pieces, which were used as parts of wooden furniture. The study confirmed that liquid ammonia bent wood can be used for various wood working design.

This paper aimed to suggest a new model of fusion furniture design which fits with our surroundings of today. This was performed by grasp and evaluation of recent trend of fusion culture in Korea in order to apply it to the furniture design of fusion style. Fusion furniture design was tried and applied to the table showing unique characteristics of Korea traditional small dining table with modern touch. The result of this paper could also contribute to distribute the unique characteristics and beauty of Korean traditional furniture in the World.

In 1990s, with the rapid development of the design part and the change of perception, various design competitions in a way to encourage the design industry have repeatedly implemented and abolished. They played positive roles of developing designs and nurturing talents. On the contrary, they caused a lot of problems of standardization of design, loss of identification of competitions, deterioration of the quality of design. Especially, though too many competitions are holding, the level of quality cannot catch up with the quantity, resulting in numerous side-effects. In the field of Furniture Design, many competitions are just an one time events and disappeared. Therefore, it is very difficult to keep the tradition of prestigious competition, playing the adverse role in the development of furniture design and lowering the will of creativeness of designers. In this study, I compared and analyzed the current issues and problems of Gyeonggi Furniture Good Design Contest, one of the representative competition as the national scale competition as of 2006, with examples from home and abroad to find out the positive and developmental methods. At the same time, I provided the ways that can be helpful in the design through the ways to facilitate competition and proposals of desirable competitions.

The cultural identity of each nation has appeared as a major issue in this multi-cultural era, and needs to define It clearly through comparisons with other cultures have been raised. The purpose of this study is to figure out ‘similarity’ and ‘dissimilarity’ on design characteristics of traditional storage furniture in interior context of Korea, China and Japan. Comparative analysis of traditional furniture was conducted in two terms, in terms of inner space, first, spatial elevation and front patterns, second, flooring materials of the interior space and types of furniture legs. Result of first comparative analysis showed that composition of windows, one of the major decorative elements of interior space, positively influenced on furniture, and reflected unique patterns of each country. Second comparative analysis showed that structures and shapes of traditional furniture vary depending on flooring materials. As a result of it, Korean furniture has the structure of ‘punghyeol’ and Chinese furniture has the structure of ‘aja’ with ‘takni’ , a combination of legs. In contrast to the two countries, Japanese furniture has rarely legs. The result of analysis is expected to act a role of establishing the cultural identity of our own country.

Materials are such an important factor in designing furniture. Wood is the biggest part of furniture materials. While wood is soft, eco-friendly and natural material, it is variable because it is characterized by severe expansion and contraction. Thus, if the changeable characteristic of wood is not considered in furniture design, the good design of furniture cannot be produced. As one of the skills dealing with woods, bending is such a useful way for making various forms of furniture. While it has been used in furniture-making for a long time, wood processing techniques like steaming bending, bending with ammonia and high frequency bending has been advanced. As wood is a viscoelastic material and has some plasticity, beautiful curves can be created when force is applied. Therefore this paper studies the types of bending methods for furniture and each characteristic of them. Furthermore, this study classifies wood process according to suitability for mass production or small-scale production and researches the proper wood process by the forms and the way of furniture production. Also this study aims to help furniture designers and cabinet makers with wood bending.

This study particularly looked at educational philosophy and content of Design Academy Eindhoven in Holland which provides multidisciplinary design education. For it might be important data for examining the educational substance and directivity in design that help construct education system in design for a new era among the varying design paradigm. The biggest feature of DAE education system designed for students to optimize their ability with systematic education of 8 contexts with 4 approaches through innovative specialty system. Besides, their interaction helps students major in what is individual specialty. Most of all, the study on the contents of DAE's multidisciplinary education is expected to be significant data for our design education that lacks integrative perspective in the respect that students might be able to develop their identity as an individual designer in changing society beyond the mere technical and formative level of design.

'Digital' the most important keyword in the 21th century environment affects on our life whole and method, studying, working, playing and communicating. Also, digital make the range of products ambiguous through fusing and compounding products. It is becoming new subject how digital may ambiguous with human's life by this solution. So, basis proposition of study analyzes intelligence style furniture taking a view of making of furniture as long as it is by digital technology do essential intensive training of furniture and there is the purpose to suggest conception pattern of 'Digital Convergence Furniture' the future. In especial, analyze intelligence style furniture by investigating space and new tendency that appear on object according to accommodation formula of digital technology through case study it is present conception 'Digital Convergence Furniture'
