  • Previous painterly rendering techniques normally use image gradients for stroke generation. Although image gradients are useful for expressing object shapes, it is difficult to express the flow or movements of objects of objects. In real painting, the use of brush strokes corresponding to the actual movement of objects allows viewers to recognize objects’ motion better and express the liveliness of the objects much more. In this paper, we propose a novel painterly stroke generation algorithm to express dynamic objects based on their motion information. We first extract motion information (magnitude, direction) of a scene from a set of image sequences from the same view. Then the motion directions are used for determining stroke orientations in the regions with significant motions. Where little motion is observed, image gradients are used for determining stroke orientations. Our algorithm is useful for realistically and dynamically representing moving objects.

  • The contents of remote lectures are written by authoring tools or animation tools. Written contents then integrate existing medias, and are stored in a file type, which is added to the lecturing activities of lecturers. These files are stored according to the kinds of each authoring tool. So, there is no interchangeability and the efficiency of each media is not so good. Due to these structural features, it is not possible to do streaming lectures in on-line environments. In this study, a technique was suggested, which guarantees the interchangeability of remote lecturing contents using SMIL which is a synchronizing multimedia language. The suggested technique is an extended type of SMIL, and includes tags to represent the lectures of tutors which are the specific feature of remote lectures. Additionally, a model, which does streaming SMIL remote lecture contents through on-line, and which transfers control techniques are suggested. The remote lecture contents established by the proposed method can be applied to all authoring tools for remote lectures just by installing conversion modules, and can be a kind of expression model of the synchronizing model for streaming service in on-line environment.

  • The stippling techniques, which represent objects with numerous points using pen and ink. The previous stippling techniques for Non-Photorsealistc Rendering(NPR) use single-colored points to represent the tone of gray image ur the material of surface. This paper presents a new stippling technique with various colored points based on the analysis of color information. By using the color information of the input image on HSV model, we define the color weight function that allows to determine automatically the number and size of points. The color jittering based on Munsell's color model can generate stippling drawings using various colored points to represent the image. Our color stippling method is expected to be used in many areas such as animation, digital art, video processing and CG tool.

  • This paper addresses a new method for constructing surface representation of 3D structures from a sequence of tomographic cross-sectional images, Firstly, we propose cell-boundary representation by transforming the cuberille space into cell space. A cell-boundary representation consists of a set of boundary cells with their 1-voxel configurations, and can compactly describe binary volumetric data. Secondly, to produce external surface from the cell-boundary representation, we define 19 modeling primitives (MP) including volumetric, planar and linear groups. Surface polygons are created from those modeling primitives using a simple table look-up operation. Comparing with previous method such as Marching Cube or PVP algorithm, our method is robust and does not make any crack in resulting surface model. Hardware implementation is expected to be easy because our algorithm is simple(scan-line), efficient and guarantees data locality in computation time.

  • In the virtual space in which human imagination exists, a great deal of games and animation contents have been developed and shown. Games and animations are performing a role as an unrealistic representative, and creating abundant virtual culture with variety of human life. A representative, that is, a main character is being completed with external design, unique personality and ability, and action in the story. This study is expecting that a game character might develop into motion acting for emotional situation from the simple action. As giving a game character a role as a medium to express various circumstances and emotions, choosing motions from a pantomimist and applying them to 3D character, and expressed according to the motion acting. Motion acting is extended from the basic motion into the emotional phases such as joy, anger, sorrow and pleasure. The motion acting expressed from various viewpoints is suggested, as communicating clear message through emotional acting contrary to the symbolic language.

  • While films today offer spectacle to the viewers due to the advanced technique, the "Modern Cinema"-a term named by Deleuze- offers spectators an opportunity to think about what they observe and to have various filmic experiences through the shifting of time image within the film narrative, which has been rather neglected as it is just a form in the realm of classic narrative. Originally the shifted time image was a result of thinking about the identity of a film. But it has self-reproduced over and over, and now it has turned into one of cliches that narrative films take. In this sense, a Korean Melodrama "Sarang-ni" is discriminated from other films which take twisted time image as a convention. The film "Sarang-ni", instead of adopting established shifted time image, put us to the confused time arrangement and then it amazingly arouses emotional effect which it initially meant to convey. This journal analyzes how the time representation of operates in the film's narration, and consequently how the form affects the storytelling.

  • This study explored the simulation of film in the post-modern society through Jean Baudrillard's theory of simulation. The 21st century can be said to be in a simulated world in which representational images dominate and can be said to be the era of images, where reality and imagination cannot be distinguished. In this world, movies are created under the premise of 'fictional' as a work of art created by man, but in the present post-modern society, the audience responds to and ignores the movie according to the expression of this simulation. In this aspect, we looked at the trends according to the expression method of Simulation, and found that successful film works express the cold reality in various and diverse ways and express it with positive 'stimulating' elements. Through this, in order to develop more deeply and systematically in the production of domestic films, various humanistic values, which are double tracks that can systematically compose a simulation that contains a didactic message about the real world and draw the audience's response, It was concluded that an attempt to express 'stimulating' in a positive sense was necessary.

  • For using the knowledge of experts diversely and efficiently, it is very important that the system could represent the complex knowledge in well structured manner and also adapt well to the frequent schema changes. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for knowledge base management by using XML based templates. In our proposed method, to solve the inefficiency of management of many XML documents, we represent the complex knowledge on XML-based templates, and manage the templates structurally by using a meta-template that defines relationship among the templates. In order to show the effectiveness of our method, we developed a knowledge base to formulate an exercise prescription for a subject and an application program to classify the subject's fitness. The experimental study shows that XML-based templates provide a flexible, extensible and structured way of representing expert knowledge. The inference using XML-based templates can be controlled systematically and efficiently by using meta-template.

  • Reconstruction of implicit surfaces from scattered point data sets have been developed in various engineering and scientific studies. In this paper, we represent a method to construct functions of 2D point data using multi-scale kernels and show it can be applied to graphics applications needed to access data in real-time. Our approach is similar to previous work in that a set of coefficients of the functions are calculated and stored in the preprocessing stage and function values at arbitrary positions are evaluated for real-time applications, however, it is different from others in that users can choose detail levels freely in real-time processing stage. The reason why the functions implicitly supports multi-resolution results from the mathematical properties of multi-scale kernels, and proposed method can be expanded to represent multi-resolution functions of n-dimensional data.

  • For realistic rendering volume to calculate the light effects as well as the shade is essential. In order to produce the high quality of the resulting image, it is necessary to represent a global illumination, and it should be considered an indirect effect of the direct impact and scattering of light. It requires a lot of resources in order to perform this operation and, in particular, is very expensive when large amounts of data to be rendered as a volume data is consumed. In this paper, we generate a scatterer template according to the physical laws for each material. Considering that each object having material property stores photons of the template based on the Lambert illumination model. When the volume rendering in this paper, using the photon is stored in the template, based on the voxel to be sampled within the examination volume occluded, and it represents the global illumination of the scattering. Because the materials produced by the template requires a less resource only if comprised of a complex material, a simple operation can be expressed within the scattering volume at a low cost through.
