  • This is a descriptive correlation study to identify health status and affecting factors related to job among Korean women employees. Data were obtained from women employees aged 20 to 64 using the Korean Working Conditions Survey 2006(KWCS). Stepwise multiple regression analysis using SAS version 9.1 was performed to identify affecting factors on physical and psychological health status related to job among Korean women employees. Musculoskeletal work-load was the most significant factor affecting on both physical and psychological health status. Modification of work environment to relieve musculoskeletal work-load, systemic health management and health education needs to be given to women employees who were exposed to high musculoskeletal work-load.

  • The study was undertaken to identify college freshmen' depression, anxiety, and somatic symptoms and clarify college life characteristics influencing it. The study was a descriptive study with 300 freshmen from H university. Data were collected from April 22 to 26, 2013 using a structured self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. As a result, first, the mean scores of the subjects were 2.33 in depression, 1.94 in anxiety, and 1.63 in somatic symptoms. Their depression, anxiety and somatic symptoms were higher as their sex and perceived self-efficacy. Second, college life characteristics explained 46.1% of variance in depression and 26.3% of variance in anxiety. college life characteristics, depression and anxiety explained 35.8% of variance in somatic symptoms among freshmen. These results will be used for developing programs to increase mental and physical health and to adapt in college life for freshmen.

  • Petascale systems(so called supercomputers) have been mainly used for supporting communication-intensive and tightly-coupled parallel computations based on message passing interfaces such as MPI(HPC: High-Performance Computing). On the other hand, computing paradigms such as High-Throughput Computing(HTC) mainly target compute-intensive (relatively low I/O requirements) applications consisting of many loosely-coupled tasks(there is no communication needed between them). In Korea, recently emerging applications from various scientific fields such as pharmaceutical domain, high-energy physics, and nuclear physics require a very large amount of computing power that cannot be supported by a single type of computing resources. In this paper, we present our HTCaaS(High-Throughput Computing as a Service) which can leverage national distributed computing resources in Korea to support these challenging HTC applications and describe the details of our system architecture, job execution scenario and case studies of various scientific applications.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting suicidal ideation in psychiatric inpatients. A total of 186 psychiatric inpatients participated in the study. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS WIN 18.0. Suicidal ideation showed significant differences according to marital status, diagnosis, and previous suicide attempt history. There were significant correlations among depression, self-esteem, spirituality and suicidal ideation. Depression and spirituality were identified as predictors affecting suicidal ideation. The regression model explained 52.4% of suicidal ideation. As a result, intervention program for decreasing depression and improving spirituality is essential to decrease suicidal ideation in psychiatric inpatients.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine self esteem, interpersonal relations, and intercultural communicative competence on the cultural competence in nursing students. The design of this research was descriptive cross-sectional study. Regression analysis was the statistical method used for data analysis. There were significant positive correlations for self esteem, interpersonal relations, intercultural communicative competence and cultural competence in nursing students. Regression analysis showed that 18.2% of the variance for Cultural Competence was significantly accounted for Self Esteem, Interpersonal Relations and Intercultural Communicative Competence. The study's finding suggest the need for a cultural competency education programs designed to the appropriate grade level of nursing students. The finding's also suggest that education programs are necessary so that a nursing students can enhance there self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and intercultural communicative competence.

  • Recently, along with, there is much interest and active studies related to users' intention of adopting smartphone. The main purpose of this study is, based on previous literature reviews related to mobile phone and smartphone, to apply modified Technology Acceptance Model to test the factors including enjoyment, social influence, perceived usefulness and perceived convenience that affect the adoption of smartphone. The results show that enjoyment and social influence positively affect perceived usefulness and perceived convenience, and perceived convenience also positively affects perceived usefulness and intention to use. According to statistical results by PLS structural equation analysis, we propose implications and limitations of this study and also briefly points out future research direction. We hope this exploratory study would be beneficial to future work in this area.

  • This study discusses some features observed in Korean credit card industry, which is classified as a two-sided market. First, I summarize six characteristics or conditions that two-sided markets possess by reviewing related literatures, and consider if we can find out those peculiarities in Korean card industry. Second, this study casts light upon the unique issues which have not been handled in previous studies, that is another two-sidedness in mature two-sided markets. In the context of credit card industry, this additional two-sidedness is created by specific consumers group existing in entire consumer group in a card firm as a form of subset and specific partnering merchants group offering special benefits to their subset consumer group, or alliance card holders. This concept gives new idea that there could be multiple two-sidedness especially in mature two-sided markets, which will be significant to platforms' pricing strategies and expand the scope of related studies.

  • An experimental and theoretical investigation was conducted in the present study to explore the mechanical behavior of concrete under dynamic loads. The stress-strain behavior and mechanical characteristics of concrete under various strain-rates were studied from several series of experiments. A new constitutive theory was derived on the basis of viscoplasticity to model the dynamic behavior of concrete. The theory is verified by the present test results as well as other previous test data. It is found from the present study that the strength of concrete is greatly increased with the increase of strain rate and that the rate of strength increase is greater in tension than in compression. The present theory as well as present test results will provide very useful basis to explore the dynamic behavior of concrete structures.

  • One of the main issues in tissue engineering has been the development of a three-dimensional (3D) structure, which is a temporary template that provides the structural support and microenvironment necessary for cell growth and differentiation into the target tissue. In tissue engineering, various biomaterials and their processing techniques have been applied for the fabrication of 3D structures. In particular, 3D printing technology enables the fabrication of a complex inner/outer architecture using a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system, and it has been widely applied to the fabrication of 3D structures for tissue engineering. Novel cell/organ printing techniques based on 3D printing have also been developed for the fabrication of a biomimetic structure with various cells and biomaterials. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the functional scaffold and cell-printed structures based on 3D printing technology and the application of this technology to various kinds of tissues regeneration.

  • This paper describes the development of an indoor locomotion assistive robot, Ball-Chair, comprising a novel drive system. This robot facilitates locomotion assistive operation in narrow spaces, in which common wheelchairs cannot move easily. The Ball-Chair has two main features: its structural feature and driving mechanism. The exoskeleton frames of the Ball-Chair have been designed with octagonal shapes resembling a circle, for minimizing its volume and weight. Additionally, all its driving parts (including the ball) are mounted within of the robot to enhance its safety. The Ball-Chair features a reverse ball-mouse driving mechanism comprising two driving omni-wheels in the x- and y-axes. By controlling the speed of each omni-wheel, a holonomic driving system that can facilitate omnidirectional locomotion has been achieved using only two wheels. The effective movement of the Ball-Chair in any direction within narrow indoor spaces was experimentally verified. The paper outlines the development procedure in detail.
