  • In this paper, the active backlight control technology with data processing algorithm was developed in order to improve image quality for IPS-mode LCD-TV applications. The image blinking problem caused by repeatedly abrupt change of the backlight luminance was solved by algorithms-Fba(Flexible Boundary algorithm) and Cfa(Cumulative Feedback algorithm)-and the optimized number and space of backlight dimming steps based on perception. In the IPS-mode 42" TFT-LCD panel, the dynamic contrast ratio can be more than twice the typical level by means of lower block luminance and higher white luminance. Additionally, Power consumption and LCD temperature was decreased.

  • We synthesized D-1,3-dioxolanyl acetate from D-mannose using Frazer-Reide reaction and D-1,3-oxathiolanyl acetate from either D-mannose or D-galactose in good yields. These acetates were conjugated with various disilylated pyrimidine base using trimethylsilyl trifluoromethane sulfonate as a Lewis acid catalyst to obtain 32 different D-nucleosides.

  • Microcrystalline silicon films were deposited on glass substrate by using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method. The crystalline volume fraction was estimated by means of Raman spectrometer with argon laser as light source. The high hydrogen dilution of silane gas was used for increase in content of crystal silicon phase.

  • The effect of plasma damage was investigated on amorphous gallium-indium-zinc oxide (a-GIZO) films and transistors. Ion-bombardment by plasma process affects to turn semiconductor to conductor materials and plasma radiation may degrade to transistor electrical properties. All damages are easily recovered with a $350^{\circ}C$ thermal annealing.

  • dTDP-D-glucose 4,6-dehydratase (TDPDH) catalyzes the conversion of dTDP-D-glucose to dTDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-D-glucose, and requires $NAD^+$ as a coenzyme for its catalytic activity. The dTDP-D-glucose 4,6-dehydratase from Streptomyces antibioticus $Tu{\ddot}99$ tightly binds $NAD^+$ [19]. In order to determine the role of lysine-148 in the $NAD^+$ binding, the lysine of the dTDP-D-glucose 4,6-dehydratase from Streptomyces antibioticus $Tu{\ddot}99$ was mutated to various amino acids by site-directed mutagenesis. The catalytic activity of the four mutated enzymes of TDPDH did not recover after addition of $NAD^+$ . However, the activity of K159A, the mutated enzyme of UDP-D-glucose 4-epimerase (UDPE), recovered after the addition of $NAD^+$ [15]. Although dTDP-glucose 4,6-dehydratase, and UDP-galactose (glucose) 4-epimerase are members of the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase SDR family and the lysine-148 of TDPDH was highly conserved as in UDPE (Lys-159), the function of the lysine-148 of TDPDH was different from that of UDPE. The mutated enzymes showed that the lysine-148 of the dTDP-D-glucose 4,6-dehydratase played no role in the $NAD^+$ binding. Accordingly, it is suggested that the lysine-148 of the dTDP-D-glucose 4,6-dehydratase is involved in the folding of TDPDH.
