Audiometric Calibration of Aural Acoustic Immittance Instrument: A Review of Acoustic Immittance Instrument's Calibration

  • Audiometric calibration is a prerequisite for securing the reliability of audiometric test results by checking the internal consistency of the relevant instrument. The purpose of this review is to help instrument operators understand the calibration procedure of aural acoustic immittance instrument which is frequently used for objective assessment. By referring to the latest international standards and the national standards relevant to the aural acoustic immittance instrument, the following parameters will be reviewed: 1) introduction of performance characteristics, 2) detailed procedure of the calibration method. According to the newest international and national standards [IEC 60645-5 (2004), ANSI S3.39-1987 (R2012)], the aural acoustic immittance instrument basically includes six components: 1) calibration cavity, 2) acoustic immittance analysis system, 3) probe assembly/unit and signal, 4) pneumatic air-pressure pump system, 5) acoustic reflex activator system and 6) tympanogram and acoustic reflex plotting system, each of these components should meet set standards. The result of behavioral hearing tests is influenced by various complex factors including the examinee's cooperation, background noise of the examination room, measurement method, skill level of the audiologist and calibration status, but the objective hearing tests is more influenced by the calibration status of the instrument than any other factors. The audiologist should take full responsibility for the reliability of the hearing test result, so he/she should carry out the calibration check and adjustments of aural acoustic immittance instrument periodically and maintain the instrument continuously by referring to the newest standards and the manufacturer's instruction manual.

  • 본 논문에서는 탐색 레이다에서 사용되는 C-대역의 고출력전력증폭장치 및 구성품의 설계, 제작과 측정에 대하여 기술하였다. 반도체 소자인 GaN(질화갈륨)을 적용하여 반도체전력증폭조립체를 설계 및 제작하였고, 설계 제작된 도파관 형태의 송신신호결합조립체를 통해 병렬로 구성된 반도체전력증폭조립체의 송신신호 출력을 결합하여 고출력 송신신호 출력을 발생한다. 제작된 고출력전력증폭장치는 C-대역 500 MHz 대역폭, 최대 10.5 % 듀티, 송신펄스폭 $0.0{\sim}000{\mu}s$에서 송신출력 44.98 kW(76.53 dBm) 이상이다.

  • Gas turbine engine simulation in terms of transient, steady state performance and operational characteristics is complex work at the various engineering functions of aero engine manufacturers. Especially, efficiency of control system design and development in terms of cost, development period and technical relevance implies controlling diverse simulation and identification activities. The previous engine simulation has been accomplished within a limited analysis area such as fan, compressor, combustor, turbine, controller, etc. and this has resulted in improper engine performance and control characteristics because of limited interaction between analysis areas. In this paper, we propose a new simulation methodology for gas turbine engine performance analysis as well as its digital controller to solve difficulties as mentioned above. The novel method has particularities of (ⅰ) resulting in the integrated control simulation using almost every component/module analysis, (ⅱ) providing automated math model generation process of engine itself, various engine subsystems and control compensators/regulators, (ⅲ) presenting total sophisticated output results and easy understandable graphic display for a final user. We call this simulation system GT3GS (Gas Turbine 3D Graphic Simulator). GT3GS was built on both software and hardware technology for total simulation capable of high calculation flexibility as well as interface with real engine controller. All components in the simulator were implemented using COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) modules. In addition, described here includes GT3GS main features and future works for better gas turbine engine simulation.

UUV Platform Optimal Design for Overcoming Strong Current

  • This paper proposes an optimal design method for an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) platform to overcome strong current. First, to minimize the hydrodynamic drag components in water, the vehicle is designed to have a streamlined disc shape, which help maintaining horizontal motion (zero roll and pitch angles posture) while overcoming external current. To this end, four vertical thrusters are symmetrically mounted outside of the platform to stabilize the vehicle's horizontal motion. In the horizontal plane, four horizontal thrusters are symmetrically mounted outside of the disc, and each of them has the same forward and reverse thrust performances. With these four thrusters, a specific thrust vector control (TVC) method is proposed, and for external current in any direction, four horizontal thrusters are controlled to generate a vectored thrust force to encounter the current while minimizing the vehicle's rotation and maintaining its heading. However, for the numerical simulations, the vehicle's hydrodynamic coefficients related to the horizontal plane are derived based on both theoretical and empirically derived formulas. In addition to the simulation, experimental studies in both the water tank and circulating water channel are performed to verify the vehicle's various final performances, including its ability to overcome strong current.

  • 본 논문에서는 데이타 의존성과 벡터왜곡척도를 이용하여 개선된 칼라영상을 복호화하였다. 프랙탈칼라영상의 복원방법은 Zhang과 Po의 벡터왜곡척도를 이용한 RGB 칼라 성분간의 상관관계를 고려하여 부호화한 압축파일을 사용하여 수렴 될 복원영상을 부호화시 만들어진 변환표의 정보를 바탕으로 참조된 정 의 역 부분이 기존의 독립적인 반복변환에 의해 수렴되었고 참조되지 않은 부분의 정의역은 데이타의존성을 갖는 영역으로 이미 수렴된 부분에 존재하므로 마지막 반복변환시 한번만에 복호화가 가능하다. 데이타의존성 부분이 차지 하는 만큼 복호화 과정에서 불필요한 계산량이 제거되었고, R영역에서 검색한 데이타 의존영역을 G,B영역에 그대로 사용하여 고속복호화가 가능하였다.

New Method for Simultaneous Quantification of 12 Ginsenosides in Red Ginseng Powder and Extract: In-house Method Validation

  • For quality control of components in Korean red ginseng powder and extract, a new method for simultaneous quantification of 12 ginsenosides ($Rg_1$, Re, Rf, $Rh_1$, $Rg_2$[S], $Rg_2$[R], $Rb_1$, Rc, $Rb_2$, Rd, $Rg_3$[S], and $Rg_3$[R]) was studied. Compared to the official method for quantification of marker substances (ginsenosides $Rg_1$ and $Rb_1$), the proposed methods were guaranteed by in-house method validation. Several criteria such as linearity, specificity, precision and accuracy were evaluated. For red ginseng powder, recovery (averaging 95% to 105%) was calculated, and analysis of variance was carried out to estimate the relative standard deviation (0.20% to 2.12%). For red ginseng extract, the average recovery rate was 90% to 99% and the relative standard deviation was 0.39% to 2.40%. These results indicate that the proposed method could be used in the laboratory for determination of 12 ginsenosides in red ginseng powder and extract. In addition, this method was found to be suitable for quality control of ginseng products and potentially offer time and cost benefits.

세개의 Gauss 동을 중첩한 간섭계형 결상계의 진폭임펄스와 초분해능 (Amplitude impulse and superresolution of interferometric imaging system obtained by superposing three Gauss pupils)

  • 역변환 문제(Inverse Problem)로 접근하여 상면에서의 최초 진폭임펄스 S$_{0}$(x)를 Gauss 함수 g$_{1}$(x), -1/2g$_{2-}$ (x+.DELTA.x$_{1}$), -1/2g$_{2+}$(x-.DELTA.x$_{1}$)를 중첩하여 설정하였다. 이를 Inverse Fourier Transform으로 동함수 A(.omega.)를 구하고, 유한구경 (-.omega.$_{0}$~+.omega.$_{0}$)에서 A(.omega)를 Fourier Transform하여 회절상의 진폭임펄스(Amplitude Impulse) S(x)를 구하였다. .lambda.=193nm, NA=0.5인 광학계에서 S(x)의 반치폭, 즉 1/2(FWHM)을 수치계산하여 49nm를 얻었다. 이는 Rayleigh 한계분해능 .epsilon.$_{R}$의 반, 1/2.epsilon.$_{R}$=96.5nm 보다 작으므로 초분해능 광학계임을 알 수 있다. OTF를 구하여 광학계의 성능을 평가한 결과 고주파영역에서 성능이 우수함을 알 수 있었다. 광학계는 Twyman-Green 간섭계를 포함하는 간섭결상계가 되고, Gauss 진폭변조판은 Polysiloxane Glass Resin을 사용하여 만들 수 있음을 제안하였다.제안하였다.

Enzymatic bioconversion of ginseng powder increases the content of minor ginsenosides and potentiates immunostimulatory activity

  • Background: Ginsenosides are biologically active components of ginseng and have various functions. In this study, we investigated the immunomodulatory activity of a ginseng product generated from ginseng powder (GP) via enzymatic bioconversion. This product, General Bio compound K-10 mg solution (GBCK10S), exhibited increased levels of minor ginsenosides, including ginsenoside-F1, compound K, and compound Y. Methods: The immunomodulatory properties of GBCK10S were confirmed using mice and a human natural killer (NK) cell line. We monitored the expression of molecules involved in immune responses via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, flow cytometry, NK cell-targeted cell destruction, quantitative reverse-transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction, and Western blot analyses. Results: Oral administration of GBCK10S significantly increased serum immunoglobulin M levels and primed splenocytes to express pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interferon-γ. Oral administration of GBCK10S also activated NK cells in mice. Furthermore, GBCK10S treatment stimulated a human NK cell line in vitro, thereby increasing granzyme B gene expression and activating STAT5. Conclusion: GBCK10S may have potent immunostimulatory properties and can activate immune responses mediated by B cells, Th1-type T cells, and NK cells.

착유우의 연속유량, 유량변이, 유성분, 체세포수, 비유지속시간, 비유속도에 대한 산차, 착유시간, 유기 및 착유간격의 효과 (The Effects of Various Factors on Milk Yield and Variation in Milk Yield Between Milking, Milk Components, Milking Duration, and Milking Flow Rate in Holstein Dairy Cattle)

  • 본 연구는 축산연구소에서 사육하고 있는 홀스타인 젖소 122두를 공시하여 2005.7.1부터 2005.8.8까지 연속유량, 유량변이, 유성분, 체세포수, 착유시간, 비유지속시간, 최고비유속도 및 비유속도에 영향을 미치는 산차, 착유시간, 착유간격, 유기가 미치는 효과에 대하여 조사 분석하였다. 공시축의 평균산차는 1.6산, 평균유기는 199.4일, 1회 착유시 평균유량은 12.25kg이었다. 연속유량, 유성분(지방율, 단백질율, 유당율, 무지고형분율), 체세포수, 비유지속시간, 최고비유속도, 평균비유속도는 산차 영향을 받았으며 연속유량, 유량변이, 지방율, 무지고형분율, 체세포수, 비유지속시간, 최고비유속도, 평균비유속도는 착유시간의 영향을 받았다. 비유일수는 연속유량, 지방율, 단백질율, 무지고형분율, 비유속도와 평균비유속도에 영향을 미쳤고, 착유간격은 연속유량, 유량변이, 평균비유속도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 MUN은 산차, 착유시간, 유기, 착유간격에 의한 영향은 없었다. 연속유량은 산차가 증가 할수록 감소하는 경향이었으며 오전 착유가 오후 착유보다 많이 생산되었고 유량변이에서는 산차간 차이가 없었으나 착유시간에서는 차이가 있었다. 유성분 중에서 지방율에서는 오후 착유가 오전 착유에 비하여 높은 결과를 보였다. 유성분인 유지방율, 유단백율, 유당율 및 무지고형분율과 체세포수, 비유지속시간과 분당 최고비유속도에 대하여 산차와 착유시간에 따라 달랐으나 MUN은 변화가 없었다. 본 연구 결과로 미루어 볼 때 유량변이, 비유속도, 비유시간 등도 중요한 형질로 취급되어야 하며 이들의 유전적 특성 구명을 위하여 더 많은 연구가 수행되어야 할 것으로 생각한다.

Association between Obesity factors and Homocysteine Levels with the Metabolic Syndrome

  • Metabolic syndrome and homocysteine are associated with increased independent risk factors of cardiovascular disease. We investigated the difference between the degree of obesity, metabolic syndrome risk factors, plasma homocysteine and anthropometric obesity factors. Totally 398 participated in a medical check-up program were selected for this study. Subjects were categorized into three groups according to the number of metabolic syndrome components present as defined by the NCEP-ATP III criteria; Absent (0 criteria, n=124), Pre-MetS (1-2 criteria, n=220) and MetS (${\geq}3$ criteria, n=54). Body mass index (BMI) is a measure used to distinguish between normal weight, overweight and obesity. MetS presented higher homocysteine than Absent (p<.05) and obesity higher than normal weight (p<.01). When Absent+Pre-MetS was used to classify obese or not, obesty presented higher homocysteine than non-obese (p<.05). Further homocysteine levels positively correlated with weight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference and waist-hip ratio (WHR). Especially WHR is not only MetS (r=0.378, p<.001) but also Absent+Pre-MetS (r=0.305, p=0.029) significantly positively correlated with homocysteine. The results of our study indicate that homocysteine is related closely to obesity. Although obesity has not been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, obesity related with increased homocysteine.
