Effect of exercise and diet intervention on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in rat skeletal muscle and adipose tissue (운동부하가 고지방식이 유도 비만흰쥐의 골격근 및 지방조직의 ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum)스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of eight weeks high fat intake and regular exercise in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue for Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) stress in rats. This experiment involved 32 subjects (sprague-dawley rats) divided into four groups as follows: chow group (Chow, n = 8), chow and exercise group (Chow + EX, n = 8), high fat diet-induced hyperlipidemia group (HF, n = 8), and HF and exercise group (HF + EX, n = 8). As a result, there were significant decrease in body weight and abdominal fat, and blood lipid level was significantly improved by exercise for eight weeks (p < .05). There were variables changed about the skeletal muscle and ER stress in GRP78, XBP-1, ATF4, CHOP and JNK mRNA. There increased in mRNA factor by exercise, especially GRP78, and ATF4 mRNA were significantly increased in exercise (p < .05). However, there were increased in adipose tissue by exercise and there were significantly decreased in mRNA factor by high fat diet (p < .05). Consequently, this study suggests that the consistent exercise was more improved of obesity factor, such as dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, as well as body weight or abdominal fat. The response of ER stress in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle were more sensitive in exercise than high fat diet feed.

  • This study was to refined the crystal structure of solid solution to determine the position and amount of Al in diopside and to relate crystal structure changes and properties of solid solution. Single crystals of the solid solution in the system CaO.MgO.$2 SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ were made from the melt with slow cooling and used to refine the structure. The following were obtained. 1. Tetrahedra rotated around axis parallel to the direction which the angle 03-03-03 became small. 2. Tetrahedron became large and regular. Average T-O bond distance increased 0.53 percent. 3. M1 octahedron became small and average M1-O bond distance decreased 1.1 percent. 4, M2 polyhedron became small and average M2-O bond distance decreased 0.37 percent Polythedron was affected not so much compared with any cation site. 5. Distance between metal ions distances between T and oxygens which were coordinated with M2 and meighboring tetrahedron distances between M2 and oxygens which coordinated with M1 and M2 were not changed almost. 6. $Al^{3+}$ substituted 4Mg^{2+}$ and $Si^{4+}$

  • With aiming to prepare microcapsules having a particle size of $30-50{\mu}m$, thermally expandable capsules with relatively uniform particle sizes consisting of a n-octane/poly(acrylonitrile-co-methyl methacrylate) core/shell structure were synthesized using SPG membrane emulsification and suspension polymerization. Four steric stabilizers and five crosslinking agents were employed. When poly(vinyl alcohol) as a stabilizer was used, the prepared capsules showed a smooth and regular morphology and the liquid hydrocarbon (n-octane) was well encapsulated in the core. When 1,4-butnaediol methacrylate (BDDMA) was used as a crosslinker, the uniform capsules with the average diameter of $36.8{\mu}m$ were synthesized. The capsules prepared with 0.05 mol% BDDMA showed the best encapsulation efficiency.

  • Novel copolymers consisting of poly(2-hydroxyethyl aspartamide-co-N,N'-dimethyl-1,3-propane aspartamide) (PHEA-DPA) were prepared from polysuccinimide (PSI), which is the thermal polycondensation product of aspartic acid, via a ring-opening reaction with N,N'-dimethyl-1,3-propane diamine (DPA) and ethanolamine. The prepared water-soluble copolymer was then crosslinked by reacting it with hexamethylene diisocyanate to provide the corresponding gel. The swelling behavior and morphology of the crosslinked hydrogels were investigated. The degree of swelling decreased with increasing crosslinking reagent due to the higher crosslinking density. It was also confirmed that the swelling property is affected by pH. At low pH (< pH 4), swelling is increased due to the ionization of DPA with a tertiary amine moiety. In addition, a reversible swelling and de-swelling behavior was demonstrated by adjusting the pH of the solution. The prepared hydrogels showed a well-interconnected microporous structure with regular 5-20 $\mu$m sized pores.

  • Twelve recombinant viruses with wider host range were plaque purified after coinfectian of Autographa cahjornica and Bombyx mOT! NPVs into Sf9 ar BmN-4 cells. Restriction endonucleases analysis of the recombinant's DNAs showed that the recombinatIOn between AcNPV and BmNPV genomes had occurred more than once. When the recombinam RecB-8, derived from BrnN-4 cells, was observed by electron rntcroscopy, the shape of the polyhedron was a regular tetrahedron, and few virions were occluded into a polyhedron.

OPTICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE CRAB PULSAR: SIMULTANEOUS UBVR LIGHT CURVES WITH TIME RESOLUTION OF 3.3 ${\mu}s$ AND SPECTROSCOPY

  • The results of the Crab pulsar observations with the photometrical MANIA (Multichannel Analysis of Nanosecond Intensity Alterations) complex at the 6-m telescope are presented. More than 12 millions photons in UBVR-bands simultaneously with time resolution of $10^{-7}s$ were detected. Using the original software for search for optical pulsar period, we obtained the light curves of the object with time resolution of about 3.3 ${\mu}s$. Their detailed analysis gives the spectral change during pulse and subpulse, the shape of the pulse peaks, which are plateaus (with the duration of about 50${\mu}s$ for the main pulse), limits for an amplitude of fine temporal (stochastic and regular) structure of pulse and sub pulse and the interpulse space intensity. The results of CCD-spectroscopy of the Crab pulsar show that its summarized spectrum is flat. There are no lines, neither emission nor absorbtion ones. Upper limit for line intensity or depth is $3.5\%$ with the confidence probability of $95\%$.

  • There have been reports concerning the association of laryngeal carcinoma and lung cancer. Second primary respiratory tract malignancies occur frequently in patients who have undergone the treatment of laryngeal cancer probably because they are exposed to the same carcinogen. Recently, we have experienced two patients who developed second primary lung cancer 30 and 41 months after the first diagnosis of laryngeal cancer at the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, Yonsei University College of Medicine. Relative long interval between the two carcinomas indicated metastasis unlikely. From a therapeutic standpoint, it is of great importance that they should be regarded as separate primaries and not as metastasis. Longevity will depends on a presumption that the lesions are separate primaries and the status of stage at the time of detection of second primary lesion. The follow-up of patients who are seen with carcinomas of the head and neck should be done at regular interval and include a chest roentgenogram and cytologic examination of sputum to detect early changes before the tumors becomes incurable. The first 76 year old patient with left upper lobectomy due to the T2N0M0 lung cancer has been in good condition to present. But the second 55 year old patient with right pneumonectomy due to the T2N0M0 lung cancer died of respiratory failure and septic pneumonia 3 months after operation and chemotherapy.

  • Steel storage racks are lightweight structures, made of thin-walled cold-formed members, whose behaviour is remarkably influenced by local, distortional and overall buckling phenomena, frequently mutually combined. In addition, the need of an easy and rapid erection and reconfiguration of the skeleton frame usually entails the presence of regular perforations along the length of the vertical elements (uprights). Holes and slots strongly influence their behaviour, whose prediction is however of paramount importance to guarantee an efficient design and a safe use of racks. This paper focuses on the behaviour of isolated uprights subjected to both axial load and bending moments, differing for the cross-section geometry and for the regular perforation systems. According to the European standards for routine design, four alternatives to evaluate the bending moment-axial load resisting domains are shortly discussed and critically compared in terms of member load carrying capacity.

Automatic Titration Using PC Camera in Acidity Analyses of Vinegar, Milk and Takju (PC 카메라를 이용한 식초, 우유 및 탁주의 산도 적정 자동화)

  • PC-camera based automatic titration was executed in the acidity analyses of vinegar, milk and Takju. The average hue value (Havg) of 144 pixels in the image of the sample solution being titrated was computed and followed up at regular time intervals during titration in order to detect the titration end point. The Havg increase of 5 degrees from the first Havg was regarded as reaching at the end point in the cases of vinegar and milk. The Havg increase set up to detect the end point was 70 degrees in the case of Takju. In the case of vinegar, the volume of added titrant (0.1 N NaOH) was $21.409{\pm}0.066mL$ in manual titration and $21.403{\pm}0.055mL$ in automatic titration (p=0.841). In the case of milk, it was $1.390{\pm}0.025mL$ in manual titration and $1.388{\pm}0.027mL$ in automatic titration (p=0.907). In the case of Takju, it was $4.738{\pm}0.028mL$ in manual titration and $4.752{\pm}0.037mL$ in automatic titration (p=0.518). The high p values suggested that there were good agreements between manual and automatic titration data in all three food samples. The automatic method proposed in this article was considered to be applicable not only to acidity titrations but also to most titrations in which the end points can be detected by color change.

Perception Survey on the Necessity of Improvement for the Standard Buoys Fouling Maintenance

  • In 2001, about 20 years after the introduction of the standard buoys, the natural environment and maritime traffic flow changes in the waters near Korea and the necessity of improvement of the AtoN (Aids to Navigation) maintenance was suggested. The IALA provides guidelines for maintenance and management of AtoN, and Korea provides guidelines for the management and operation of standard buoys by means of the Enforcement on the AtoN laws. The objective of this study was to investigate the installation status and the repair status of the standard type buoys by sea area in order to improve the management and operation of the steel standard buoys. In addition, a survey was conducted on the improvement of the steel buoy fouling and the improvement of the lifting inspection cycle towards on the AtoN managers and producers of the representative authority by sea area. In the case of LL-26 (M) buoy type, the standard type buoy installation status of Korea in 2017 was 57.1%, and the LL-26 (M) type was 58.9% showing the highest repair rate. According to the results of the survey on buoys fouling, 51.2% were caused by the attachment of shellfish, and 43.2% were caused by bird feces. The results of the survey on the improvement of the regular buoy inspection cycle showed that the measures are to maintain the current inspection period of 2 years regardless of the characteristics of the sea area (water depth, inside and outside port, buoy size, etc.).
