  • Background: We investigated the correlation between standardized uptake value (SUVmax), tumor size and Fuhrman grade in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RC). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 54 patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma histopathologically diagnosed who underwent fluorine-18 fluoro-2 deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18 FDG PET/CT) between January 2005 and March 2014. Results: Avarage tumor sizes were $5.64{\pm}1.85$, $6.85{\pm}2.24$ and $7.98{\pm}2.45$ in low, medium and high SUVmax groups, respectively. The Spearman's correlation coefficient between the tumor size and SUVmax was 0.385 (p=0.004) and between the Fuhrman grade and SUVmax was 0.578 (p<0.001). Conclusions: SUVmax appears highly correlated with tumor size and Fuhrman grade in patients with histopathologically confirmed clear cell RC. Multicenter studies are needed to provide larger series for more accurate results.

  • This study aimed to investigate the difference of X-ray exposure by comparing and analyzing entrance surface dose and absorbed dose according to the frame change in coronary angiography using an X-ray machine. Moreover, appropriate frame selection measures for examination, including the effect of frame change on the image quality, were sought by measuring and analyzing the SNR and CNR of the image through image J. The study was conducted on 30 patients (19 males and 11 females) who underwent CAG at this hospital from June 2017 to October 2017. In regard to the patients, their age range was 49-82 years (mean of $65{\pm}9$ years), body weight was 45-91 kg (mean of $67{\pm}8.9kg$), height was 150-179cm (mean of $165.1{\pm}8.9kg$), and BMI was 19.5-30.5(mean of $24.5{\pm}2.9$). For the entrance surface dose and absorbed dose, air kerma value and DAP were obtained and analyzed retrospectively. The SNR and CNR were measured and analyzed through imageJ, and the result values were derived by applying the values to the formula. As for the statistical analyses, the correlations between the entrance surface dose and absorbed dose, and between the SNR and CNR were analyzed by using the SPSS statistical program. The relationship between the entrance surface dose and absorbed dose was not statistically significant for both 10 f/s and 15 f/s (p>0.05). In terms of the relationship between the SNR and CNR, the SNR ($3.374{\pm}2.1297$) and CNR ($0.234{\pm}0.2249$) in 10 f/s were $1.43{\pm}0.4861$ and $0.132{\pm}0.0555$ lower, respectively, than the SNR ($4.929{\pm}2.8532$) and CNR ($0.391{\pm}0.3025$) in 15 f/s, which were not statistically significant (p>0.05). In the correlation analysis, statistically significant results were obtained among the BMI, air kerma, and DAP; between air kerma and DAP; and between SNR and CNR (p<0.001, p<0.001). In conclusion, there was no significant difference between the entrance surface dose and absorbed dose even when the images were taken by changing the frame from 10 f/s to 15 f/s at the time of the coronary angiography. SNR and CNR increased at 15 f/s than at 10 f/s, but they were not statistically significant. Therefore, this study suggests that the concern of the patient and practitioner regarding image quality degradation, as well as the problem of X-ray exposure caused by imaging at 10 f/s and 15 f/s, may be reduced.

  • Sol-Gel derived ferroelectric Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{0.48}$) $O_{3}$ thin films have been fabricated on Pt/Ti/ $SiO_{2}$/Si substrate. Two kinds of fast annealing methods, F-I (six times of intermediate and final annealing) and F-II(one final annealing after six times of intermediate annealing) were used for preparation of multi-coated PZT thin films. As the annealing temperature was increased, high capacitance could be obtained, for instance, 2700.angs.-thick PZT thin film annealed at 680.deg. C had a capacitance value of approximately 20nF at 1kHz. In addition, it is found that the dielectric constant is a function of the perovskite phase fraction. In case of F-I method, PZT thin film had a remanent polarization(Pr) of 8-15.mu.C/c $m^{2}$ and a coercive field( $E_{c}$) of 35-44kV/cm according to annealing temperature, whereas PZT film fabricated by F-II method had as high as 24-25.mu.C/c $m^{2}$ and 48-59kV/cm, respectively. As a result of measuring Curie temperature, PZT thin film had a range of 460-480.deg. C by F-I method and more or less higher range of 525-530.deg. C by F-II method, which implied that different microstructures could cause the different Curie temperature. Through I-V measurement, leakage current of PZT thin film fabricated by F-I and F-II methods was 64nA/c $m^{2}$ and 2.2.mu.A/c $m^{2}$ in the electric field of 100kV/cm, respectively.y.y.y.

  • Purpose: We evaluated the sensitivity of the F-18 FDG PET by visual assessment and statistical parametric mapping (SPM) analysis for the localization of the epileptogenic zones in frontal lobe epilepsy. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four patients with frontal lobe epilepsy were examined. All patients exhibited improvements after surgical resection (Engel class I or II). Upon pathological examination, 18 patients revealed cortical dysplasia, 4 patients revealed tumor, and 2 patients revealed cortical scar. The hypometabolic lesions were found in F-18 FDG PET by visual assessment and SPM analysis. On SPM analysis, cutoff threshold was changed. Results: MRI showed structural lesions in 12 patients and normal results in the remaining 12. F-18 FDG PET correctly localized epileptogenic zones in 13 patients (54%) by visual assessment. Sensitivity of F-18 FDG PET in MR-negative patients (50%) was similar to that in MR-positive patients (67%). On SPM analysis, sensitivity decreased according to the decrease of p value. Using uncorrected p value of 0.05 as threshold, sensitivity of SPM analysis was 53%, which was not statistically different from that of visual assessment. Conclusion: F-18 FDG PET was sensitive in finding epileptogenic zones by revealing hypometabolic areas even in MR-negative patients with frontal lobe epilepsy as well as in MR-positive patients. SPM analysis showed comparable sensitivity to visual assessment and could be used as an aid in the diagnosis of epileptogenic zones in frontal lobe epilepsy.

  • The objective of this study was to assess the effect of xylanase on net energy for production, performance, nutrient digestion and gut microflora of broilers fed corn/soy-based diet. Eighty-four day-old male broiler chicks were allocated to two groups receiving two treatments, respectively. Each treatment had six replicate cages with seven broilers per cage. The diets were based on corn and soybean. The treatments were: i) basal diet reduced in apparent metabolizable energy (-0.63 MJ/kg compared to commercial diet specifications); ii) basal diet supplemented xylanase at 4,000 u/kg feed. The experiment used the auto-control, open circuit respiration calorimetry apparatus to examine the heat production and net energy for production. The results revealed that xylanase supplementation did not affect growth performance and diet AME value, but increased $NE_p$ value by 18.2% (p<0.05) and decreased daily heat production per $kg^{0.75}$ by 31.7% (p<0.05). There was no effect (p>0.05) of xylanase supplementation on the ileal digestibility of N and hemicelluloses, but the ileum digestibility of energy was increased by 2% by xylanase supplementation (p<0.05). Xylanase supplementation increased (p<0.05) the count of lactobacillus and bifidobacterial in the caecum.

  • For 63 soil series distributed in Jeju Island, natural uncultivated soils in each soil series were collected, and their physicochemical properties and their concentrations of 19 heavy metals including 8 heavy metals which are regulated by Korean Soil Environment Conservation Law, were analyzed. Moreover, the correlations between physicochemical properties and heavy metal concentrations, and between heavy metal concentrations were analyzed. The heavy metals distributed in the higher concentrations and the lower concentrations with arithmetric mean value, were Mn(730 mg/kg) and Ba(493 mg/kg), and Hg(0.146 mg/kg) and Tl(0.096 mg/kg), respectively. The correlations between pH($H_2O$) and heavy metals(Hg, Ni, Co, Se), between pH(NaF) and heavy metals(Hg, Ba, Se, Tl), and between organic matter content and heavy metals(Hg, Tl) were significant at the 0.01 level. From the correlations between heavy metal concentrations, there were 22 where there were significant at the 0.01 level and they showed positive correlation. Among those, the heavy metals showing the correlation higher than r=0.5, were Sb-V(0.878), Mo-Sn(0.867), Co-V(0.654), Co-Sb(0.648), Be-Sn(0.546), and Sn-Tl(0.528).

  • In this study, the antioxidant activities of hot water extracts of Rugosa rose (Rosa rugosa Thunb.) were evaluated. Total phenolic compounds (TPC) and total flavonoid compounds (TFC) were the highest in the leaf extracts at 107.29 mg/g and 24.28 mg/g, respectively. The DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt) radical scavenging activity was in the following order: flower extract > leaf extract > seed extract > fruit extract. The $IC_{50}$ values for DPPH and ABTS of the flower extract were $0.87mg/m{\ell}$ and $0.27mg/m{\ell}$, respectively. The amount of gallic acid was higher in the flower (4.51 mg/g) and leaf extracts (0.97 mg/g) than in the other extracts. Among the fraction (A-F) of each extract, antioxidant activity was the highest in the C fraction of flower extract. It is due to high TPC (3305.43 mg/g) and TFC (878.42 mg/g). Statistical analysis revealed a strong correlation between TFC (or TPC) and radical scavenging activity at p-value < 0.001. Collectively, these results suggest that the hot water extracts of rugosa rose have potential antioxidant effects, and can be used in food, cosmetics, and the pharmaceutical industries.
