  • A H$_{\infty}$ control techniques with roll eccentricity filter is proposed to alleviate the effect of entry thickness variation and roll eccentricity occurred in rolling stand itself of tandem cold mills. A robust controller to the disturbances is designed using H$_{\infty}$ control techniques, which can reflect the input direction of disturbances and knowledge of disturbance spectrum in the frequency domain. And, non-standard H$_{\infty}$ control problem caused by selection of weight function having poles on j.omega. axis is discussed. The evaluation for the resultant controller composed by H$_{\infty}$ synthesis is done through computer simulations. The effectiveness of the proposed method is compared to those of the conventional LQ synthesis method and a feedforward controller against roll eccentricity, which was already studied.ied.

  • Precise measurement of extremely low resistance shunt is important for characterization and calibration of high current instruments. We tested resistance measurement method for extremely high current shunt (up to 140 kA), where resistance is determined by precise measurement of voltage drop at 10 A test current in the frequency range of 40 Hz to 10 kHz. For the extremely low ac voltage to be precisely measured, a verification of the measurement method was also carried, where the inherent noise is systematically evaluated. The measurement uncertainty was estimated to be $1\;\%\;at\;95\;\%$ confidence level (k=2) for about 50 $\mu\Omega$.

  • To establish testing method for ignition energy of explosive powders caused by electrostatic discharge, one testing method using a very small quantity of tested powders ( Frima ) was proposed, and the influence of discharge - limiting resistance connected in series into a capacitive discharge circuit on ignition energies of explosive powders was investigated using, as tested powders. As a result the minimum ignition energy was 9 mJ when discharge-limiting resistance was 300 k$\Omega$. The reason for the dependence of ignition energy on discharge-limiting resistance was thought to the difference in the type of electrostatic discharge, such as arc or glow discharge, from the observation of discharging wave forms.

  • This paper presents analyzed results of a permanent magnet motor by using complex E&S modeling. The calculated results are compared with ones from the conventional E&S modeling for verification. Combinations of the numbers of slots and poles are investigated to reduce total iron loss. The results demonstrate that the complex E&S modeling is very useful in design under consideration of rotational magnetic field and magnetic anisotropy.

Curing Reaction of Noble Liquid Crystalline Epoxy (LCE) with Azomethine/Aliphatic Amine (Azomethine 기를 가지는 신소재 액정 에폭시 (LCE)와 지방족 아민의 경화반응)

  • $\alpha$,$\omega$-Bis(4-glycidyloxybenzylidene-4-aminophenyl)methane (BGBAM) was synthesized from the initial materials, 4-hydroxylbenzaldehyde (HBA), 4,4'-methylenedianiline (MDA) and epichlorohydrin. The DSC trace for BGBAM shows two endotherms associated with the liquid crystalline phase transition around $104.2^{\circ}C$ and the isotropic transition around $171.2^{\circ}C$, and it also has a broad exotherm in the range of $178~300^{\circ}C$ due to the anionic homopolymerization of BGBAM. DSC curve for the curing of BGBAM with hexamethylene diamine (HMD) shows an endothermic peak around $93^{\circ}C$ attributed to the melting of BGBAM. It also has three exothermic peaks around $128.4^{\circ}C$ and $180.2^{\circ}C$ associated with the epoxide-amine reaction and weak peak in the range of $200~263^{\circ}C$ related to the anionic homopolymerization between the unreacted epoxide groups. The activation energy values of cure reaction by Kissinger method are 66.5, 67.3 and 90.6 kJ/mol for $T_{pl},\; T_{p2}\; and \;T_{p3},\; respectively$. The kinetic parameters by isoconverional method are similar value to those from Kissinger method.

Over-current characteristics of YBCO coated conductors having Cu stabilizer (구리 안정화재가 있는 YBCO 박막형 초전도 선재의 과전류 통전 특성)

  • Differently from BSCCO tapes which are fabricated by powder-in-tube method, the coated conductors are made by the evaporation of YBCO on metal substrate. Due to this structural merit, although the coated conductors are generally used for large current transportation, they are expected to be favorable to the purpose of the fault current limitation as well. In this study, using YBCO coated conductor having copper stabilizer formed by plating technique(produced by Superpower Co.), we investigated the over-current characteristics of the coated conductor. The coated conductors had 85 A $I_c$ and 90 K $T_c$. The resistance of the conductor was 0.93 $m{\Omega}/cm$ at 300 K and 0.17 $m{\Omega}/cm$ at the temperature right above $T_c$. To the coated conductors, we applied the voltages of the range from 150 $V_{rms}$ to 230 $V_{rms}$ and measured the V-I curves using four probe method. From the results, we could analyze the electric behavior of the coated conductor in flux flow state. As the current exceed $I_c$, the currents were distributed into the superconductor and metal stabilizer. The amounts of the currents shared through both current paths were calculated under the assumption that the ,Joule heating was perfectly eliminated by $LN_2$ surrounding the conductor. Finally, the condition for the stable current flowing state which does not affect the conductor was established from the analysis on the over-current characteristics.

The Effect of Boron Doped CdS Film on CdS/CdTe Solar Cell (CdS 박막의 boron doping에 따른 CdS/CdTe 태양전지 특성)

  • Boron doped CdS films were prepared by CBD(Chemical Bath Deposition) method using boric acid ($B_3HO_3$) as donor dopant source, and their properties were investigated. As-grown CdS films were highly adherent and specularly reflective. Boron doped CdS film which was fabricated under the condition of 0.01 $B_3HO_3/Cd(Ac)_2$ mole ratio, exhibited the lowest resistivity of $2{\Omega}cm$ and the highest optical bandgap of 2.41eV. Also, CdS/CdTe solar cells were fabricated with various doping concentration of CdS films. Using optimized CdS film as the window layer of CdS/CdTe solar cell, the characteristics of the cell were improved. ( $V_{oc}$=610mV, $J_{sc}$=37.5mA/cm, FF=0.4, $\eta$=9.1% )

Growth and characterization of BON thin films prepared by low frequency RF plasma enhanced MOCVD method

  • It was first time that low frequency R.F. derived plasma enhanced MOCVD with frimethylborate precursor was used to fabricate a new ternary compound $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ . The formation of BON molecule was resulted from nitrogen nitrifying B-O, and forming the angular molecule structure proved by XPS and FT-IR results. The relationship between hardness and film thickness was studied. An thickness-independent hardness was fond about 10 GPa. The empirical calculation of band-gap and UV test result showed that our deposited $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ thin film was semiconductor material with 3.4eV of wide band gap. The electrical conductivity, $4.8$\times$10^{-2}$ /($\Omega$.cm)$^{-1}$ also confirmed that $BO_{x}$ $N_{y}$ has a semiconductor property. The roughness detected from the as-grown films showed that there was no serious bombarding effect due to anion in the plasma occurring in the RF frequency derived plasma.

Improved version of LeMoS hybrid model for ambiguous grid densities

  • Application of the LeMoS hybrid (LH) URANS/LES method for the wake parameters prediction is considered. The wake fraction coefficient is calculated for inland ship model M1926 under shallow water conditions and compared to results of PIV measurements. It was shown that due to lack of the resolved turbulence at the interface between LES and RANS zones the artificial grid induced separations can occur. In order to overcome this drawback, a shielding function is introduced into LH model. The new version of the model is compared to the original one, RANS $k-{\omega}$ SST and SST-IDDES models. It is demonstrated that the proposed modification is robust and capable of wake prediction with satisfactory accuracy.

  • In the present work, we have interests on the modification of parallel implemented with MPI(Message Passing Interface) programming method, 3-Dimensional, unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes equation solver to analyze the low-Reynolds number flow In order to accurate calculation aerodynamic coefficients in low-Reynolds number flow field, we modified the two-equation turbulence model. This paper describes the development and validation of a new two-equation model for the prediction of flow transition. It is based on Mentor's low Reynolds $\kappa-\omega$ model with modifications to include Total Stresses Limitation (TSL) and Separation Transition Trigger (STT)
