Fabrication of multicolor photochromic thin film

  • Thin films of Ag-SiO2-TiO2 composite oxides with SiO2/TiO2 of 20/80 molar compositions were prepared by the sol-gel method, using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and titanium isopropoxide (TIP) as precursors. Ag-SiO2-TiO2 films coated on commercial glass substrates have successfully been synthesized using sol-gel method. The Ag-SiO2-TiO2 film with 0.5% Ag-added concentration and 20 mol% SiO2-mixture gives optimal results on crystalline structure, optical property, surface area, and photochromic property. Absorption near the wavelength of the incident light decreased gradually. The reversibility of the two-photon writing process in Ag-SiO2-TiO2 film is clearly seen.

Preparation of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays from Thin Film Grown by RF Sputtering

  • Transparent $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays are successfully prepared by a two-step approach involving electrochemical anodization and RF magnetron sputtering. First, a Ti film is deposited on an FTO substrate by RF magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The morphologies of the Ti film are controlled by the working distance, Ar flow, and DC power. Second, an anodization treatment is electrochemically performed for the formation of nanotube arrays from the deposited Ti film, followed by post-annealing treatment in air for the formation of $TiO_2$ crystallization. The back side of the crystallized $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays is illuminated with solar light to characterize the photoelectrochemical reaction, and their photoelectrochemical properties are investigated. This work provides information on application of a thin film deposited by RF sputtering in the field of photoelectrochemical water splitting.

Electrochemical Synthesis of TiO2 Photocatalyst with Anodic Porous Alumina

  • Aluminum was anodized in a $H_2SO_4$ solution, and titanium (IV) oxide ($TiO_2$) was electrodeposited into nanopores of anodic porous alumina in a mixed solution of $TiOSO_4$ and $(COOH)_2$. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared film was analyzed for photodegradation of methylene blue aqueous solution. Consequently, we found it was possible to electrodeposit $TiO_2$ onto anodic porous alumina, and synthesized it into the nanopores by hydrolysis of a titanium complex ion under AC 8-9 V when film thickness was about $15-20{\mu}m$. The photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$-loaded anodic porous alumina ($TiO_2/Al_2O_3$) at an impressed voltage of 9 V was the highest in every condition, being about 12 times as high as sol-gel $TiO_2$ on anodic porous alumina. The results revealed that anodic porous alumina is effective as a substrate for photocatalytic film and that high-activity $TiO_2$ film can be prepared at low cost.

Developing a Testing Method for Antimicrobial Efficacy on TiO2 Photocatalytic Products

  • $TiO_2$ photocatalyst has been known to exhibit a notable disinfecting activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. A lot of commercial $TiO_2$ photocatalyst products have been developed for antimicrobial purposes. However, a standard method has not yet been proposed for use in testing antimicrobial activity. In this study, we developed a $TiO_2$ photocatalytic adhesion test method with film as the standard testing method for the evaluation of antimicrobial activity. This method was devised by modifying the previous antimicrobial products test method, which has been widely used, and considering the characteristics of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic reaction. The apparatus for testing the antimicrobial activity was composed of a Black Light Blue (BLB) lamp as UV-A light source, a Petri dish as the cover material, and a polypropylene film as the adhesion film. The standard $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sample, Degussa P25 $TiO_2$ - coated glass, could only be used once. The optimal initial concentration of the microorganism, proper light intensity, and light irradiation time were determined to be $10^6$ CFU/mL, 1.0 mW/$cm^2$, and 3 hr, respectively, for testing and evaluating antimicrobial activity on the $TiO_2$ surface.

과잉 Ti 성분의 티탄산 바륨과 실리콘 산화막으로 구성된 안티퓨즈 (Antifuse with Ti-rich barium titanate film and silicon oxide film)

  • This paper is focused on the fabrication of reliable novel antifuse, which could operate at low voltage along with the improvement in OFF and ON-state properties. The fabricated antifuse consists of Al/BaTi$_{2}$O$_{3}$/SiO$_{2}$/TiW-silicide structure. Through the systematic analyses for bottom metal and the intermetallic insulator, material and electri cproperties were investiaged. TiW-silicide as the bottom electrode had smooth surface with average roughness of 11.angs. at 10X10.mu.m$^{2}$ and was bing kept as-deposited SiO$_{2}$ film stable. Amorphous BaTi$_{2}$O$_{3}$ film as the another insulator was chosen because of its low breakdown strength (2.5MV/cm). breakdown voltage of antifuse is remarkably reduced by using BaTi$_{2}$O$_{3}$ film, and leakage current of that maintained low level due to the SiO$_{2}$ film. Low ON-resistance (46.ohm./.mu.m$^{2}$) and low programming voltage(9.1V) can be obtained in theses antifuses with 220.angs. double insulator layer and 19.6X10$^{-6}$ cm$^{2}$ area, while keeping sufficient OFF-state reliability (less than 1nA).

Band Gap Tuning in Nanoporous TiO2-ZrO2 Hybrid Thin Films

  • Nanoporous TiO2 and ZrO2 thin films were spin-coated using a surfactant-templated approach from Pluronic P123 (EO20PO70EO20) as the templating agent, titanium alkoxide (Ti(OC4H9)4) as the inorganic precursor, and butanol as a the solvent. The control of the electronic structure of TiO2 is crucial for its various applications. We found that the band gap of the hybrid nanoporous thin films can be easily tuned by adding an acetylacetonestabilized Zr(OC4H9)4 precursor to the precursor solution of Ti(OC4H9)4. Pores with a diameter of 5 nm-10 nm were randomly dispersed and partially connected to each other inside the films. TiO2 and ZrO2 thin films have an anatase structure and tetragonal structure, respectively, while the TiO2-ZrO2 hybrid film exhibited no crystallinity. The refractive index was significantly changed by varying the atomic ratio of titanium to zirconium. The band gap for the nanoporous TiO2 was estimated to 3.43 eV and that for the TiO2-ZrO2 hybrid film was 3.61 eV.

Synergistic Effect on the Photocatalytic Degradation of 2-Chlorophenol Using $TiO_2$Thin Films Doped with Some Transition Metals in Water

  • The metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method has been used to prepare TiO2 thin films for the degradation of hazardous organic compounds, such as 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). The effect of supporting materials and metal doping on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 thin films also has been studied. TiO2 thin films were coated onto various supporting materials, including stainless steel cloth(SS), quartz glass tube (QGT), and silica gel (SG). Transition metals, such as Pd(II), Pt(IV), Nd(III) and Fe(III), were doped onto TiO2 thin film. The results indicate that Nd(Ⅲ) doping improves the photodegradation of 2-CP. Among all supporting materials studied, SS(37 ${\mu}m)$ appears to be the best support. An optimal amount of doping material at 1.0 percent (w/w) of TiO2-substrate thin film gives the best photodegration of 2-CP.

메칠멜캅탄 가스센서용 TiO2/전해질폴리머 박막 제조 (Fabrication of TiO2/polyelectrolyte thin film for a methyl mercaptan gas sensor)

  • 메칠멜캅탄($CH_3SH$) 가스를 검출하는 수정진동자(QCM) 가스센서를 QCM의 전극에 $TiO_2$ 나노입자와 전해질 폴리머를 증착하여 제조하였다. LBL-SA법에 의해 제조된 $TiO_2$/PSS 박막은 높은 비표면적을 나타내었고, 가스센서의 감도를 증가시켰다. 1.0 ppm의 농도를 갖는 메칠멜캅탄에 노출된 TEA 혹은 $TiO_2$/PSS 막이 증착된 QCM의 주파수 변이는 각각 약 9 Hz, 2 Hz 였다. ($TiO_2$/PSS) 박막의 증착수가 늘어남에 따라 제조된 박막의 비표면적이 증가하게 되어 QCM 센서의 주파수 변이도 점차적으로 증가하였다. 추가적으로 메칠멜캅탄 가스의 농도가 0.5 ppm에서 2.0 ppm으로 높아짐에 따라 QCM 센서의 주파수 변화도 증가되었다. 본 연구에서는, ($TiO_2$/PSS) 박막이 증착된 QCM 센서의 표면구조의 변화와 센서 특성을 측정하였다.

  • Extensive efforts have been made in an attempt to utilize photocatalytic properties of $TiO_2$ in visible range. $TiO_2$ and TiO-N thin films were made by the DC reactive magnetron sputtering method at $300^{\circ}C$. Various gases (Ar, $O_2$ and $N_2$) were used and Ti target was impressed by 0.6 kW-5.8 kW power range. The hysteresis phenomenon of the $TiO_2$ thin film as a function of the discharge voltage characteristic was observed to be higher as applied power increases. That of TiO-N thin film was occurred at the 5.8 kW power. The cross section and surface roughness of thin films were observed by FE-SEM and AFM. Average surface roughness of TiO-N thin film was observed as $15.9\AA$ and that of $TiO_2$ as $13.2\AA$. The crystal phases of both $TiO_2$ and TiO-N thin films were found to be anatase structure. The atomic $\beta$-N (396 eV peak in N 1s XPS) was shown in the rutile crystal of TiO-N and was considered acting as the origin of wavelength shift to the visible light.

Rf Magnetron Sputtering 방법에 의하여 제조된 $(BaSr)TiO_3$ 박막의 구조적, 광학적 특성 고찰 (The Characterization of Structural and Optical Properties for rf Magnetron Sputtered $(BaSr)TiO_3$ Thin Film)

  • ITO coated glass, bare glass, 그리고 (100)Si 기판 위에 증착된 $(BaSr)TiO_3$ 박막의 구조는 기판의 종류에 관계없이 변하지 않았으나 결정성은 다결정 ITO층과 (100)Si 기판에 있어서 증대되었다. ITO coated glass 기판 위에 증착된 $(BaSr)TiO_3$ 박막의 조성은 거의 화학양론적으로 일치하였으며 ((Ba+Sr)/Ti=1.08~1.09) 증착 중 상당히 치밀하고 균질하였다. 그러나 증착온도가 증가함에 따라 성장한 박막과 ITO층 사이에, 그리고 ITO층과 base glass 사이에 확산이 보다 심화되었다. ITO coated glass 기판 위에 증착된 $(BaSr)TiO_3$ 박막은 상당히 투명하였으며(투과율 약 80%) 굴절률($n_f$)은 기판온도의 증가에 따라 2.138~2.286이었다.
