In this study an experimental investigation has been conducted to remove NOx and SO$_2$simultaneously from a combustion flue gases were consisted of NO-SO$_2$-$CO_2$-$N_2$-O$_2$([NO]o:200ppm and [SO$_2$]o:800ppm) and the injection gases used as radical source gases were NH$_3$-Ar-air and CH$_4$-Ar-air. NOx and SO$_2$removal efficiency and the other by-products were measured by Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR) as well as SO$_2$, NOx and NO$_2$gas detectors. and SEM images after sampling. The results showed that a significant Nucleating Particle Counter(CNPC) and SEM images after sampling. The results showed that a significant aerosol particle formation was observed during a simultaneous NOx and SO$_2$removal operation in corona radical shower systems. The diameter of aerosol particles was in the range of 0.18 to 3.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with a maximum fraction of particles at particles diameter of 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The NOx removal efficiency significantly increased with increasing applied voltage and NH$_3$molecule ratio. The SO$_2$removal efficiency was not significantly effected by applied voltage and slightly increased with increasing NH$_3$molecule ratio. It could be found that it is possible to use CH$_4$for NOx and SO$_2$removal by corona radical shower systems.
The possibility of extraction of alumina from domestic Ha-dong kaolin was studied by sulfuric acid treatment. Raw kaolin was calcined at various temperature (500-110$0^{\circ}C$) and calcined kaolin were treated with sulfuric acid. The tendency of extraction yield of alpha alumina have been investigated by relating reaction time, temperature, and acid concentration. After reaction, precipitates were analyzed by DTA, TGA, and identified alpha alumina by X-ray diffractometer with calcined sample at 120$0^{\circ}C$. The results were as follows; 1. The optimum calcination temperature was 800-86$0^{\circ}C$. 2. The most suitable extracting conditions of alpha alumina were 40 wt%-$H_2SO_4$, 2-3 hours acid-treating time and 8$0^{\circ}C$ acid-treating temperature. 3. Precipitates were composed of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, $Al_2SO_4(OH)_4$ 5-7 $H_2O$ and $Al(OH)_3$.
Medium optimization for ${\beta}$-mannanase production by Aspergillus oryzae ATCC 2114 was performed. Effect of carbon source (locust bean gum) concentration on ${\beta}$-mannanase production was investigated. Above 20 g/L locust bean gum, a lag time for ${\beta}$-mannanase production was appeared because high concentration of locust bean gum caused high viscosity which made the mixing of medium poor. As the locust bean gum concentration in the medium increased, ${\beta}$-mannanase activity and cell growth increased proportionally. Effect of various nitrogen sources on ${\beta}$-mannanase production was also studied. (NH4)2SO4 and malt extract were the most effective for ${\beta}$-mannanase production among the inorganic nitrogenous compounds and organic nitrogen nutrients. Inorganic compounds such as KH2SO4, NaCl, Na2CO3, and MgSO4, on ${\beta}$-mannanase production were optimized for ${\beta}$-mannanase production. Locust bean gum of 10 g/L, malt extract of 3 g/L, (NH4)2SO4 of 2 g/L, KH2SO4, of 10 g/L were selected as the optimal medium. Culture in a fermentor by using the optimal medium was carried out. Lag time of ${\beta}$-mannanase production was shorter due to the better mixing of the fermentor. The maximum ${\beta}$- mannanase activity of 9.7 unit/mL and specific ${\beta}$-mannanase activity of 1.9 unit/mg-cell could be obtained at 27 hours and the productivity of ${\beta}$-mannanase was 0.36 unit/mL$.$h.
Manufacturing process of porous glass by the filler method was studied. Commercial soda-lime-silicate glass powder was mixed with inorganic salt as the filler such as KCl, K2SO4, Na2SO4. Sintering shrinkages of mixed powders with the variation of sintering temperature were compared, and the effects of the fillers to shrinkages of mixed powder were increased in the order of Na2SO4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of pore diameter were manufactured when the filler sizes 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The open pore volume of porous glass is determined by the quantity of filler and porous glasses having open pore volume between 30 and 70 vol% are available. Available sintering temperature range for preparation of porous glass is from the softening temperature of the glass powder to eutectic melting temperature of DTA curve of mixed powder.
The effects of urea addition and reaction conditions were examined in the prepareation of zirconia coated SiC whiskers through surface precipitation taking place during high-temperature aging of Zr(SO4)2 solutions containing the whiskers. More dense zirconia-hydrate was precipitated on the surfaces of the whiskers in the presence of urea. The ratio of the concentration of Zr(SO4)2 to the amount of added whiskers was the most important factor to confine the precipitation of zirconia-hydrate only at the surfaces of the whiskers The from of the coating layers was unchanged after heat-treatment leading to the dehydration and crystallization of the layers.
esters of the acid analytes were synthesized using $H_2SO_4$ as the catalyst. Efficiency of derivatization and instrumental molecular-response were compared with herbicides methylated with $BF_3-methanol$(14% W/V), $H_2SO_4-methanol$(33% V/V), and diazomethane. The molecular integrity of TFE-2,4-D, TFE-dicamba, and TFE-mecoprop, in the mixture, was confirmed by the GC/MSD method. The TFE-Esterification efficiency was maximized by adjusting the volume of $H_2SO_4$ the reaction time, and temperature. Optimal efficiency for the herbicide mixture was obtained by adding 1 ml of $H_2SO_4$ and 1 ml of TFE to the dried sample and allowing the reaction to proceed at $22^{\circ}C$ for 8 hr or using 0.5 ml $H_2SO_4$ and 1 ml of TFE at $60^{\circ}C$. For 120 min increasing the temperature and decreasing the reaction time were required for maximum esterification efficiency. The sensitivity of the GC/ECD to the TFE esters was about $2{\sim}20$ times greater than that to the methyl ester derivatives. The herbicides were extracted and esterified to TFE derivatives simultaneously from soil leachates previously spiked with the analytes. Herbicide recovery, peak resolution, and detector sensitivity were excellent without using column cleanup procedures.
An experiment with the tobacco plant was conducted in the pots. A sandy humic soil was used with 2 levels of pH, 3.5 and 5.8 with 2 kinds of anions, Cl as $NH_4Cl$ and $SO_4$ as $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, and with 4 levels of pF, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.5. The pH-treatment created different N-forms; $NH_4$ at low pH(3.5) and $NO_3$ at high pH (5.8). The results are summarized as follows: 1. At low pH (3.5) with high concentration of $NH_4$ given as $NH_4Cl$, the high content of $NH_4$ and Cl in tobacco resulted in plants suffering from $NH_4$ and Cl toxicity as well as Mn toxicity. As a result of these toxicity, an extremly abnormal growth of tobacco was clearly appeared. In the tobacco grown at low pH with $NH_4$ given as $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, a large amount of the $NH_4$ uptake developed Mg and Ca deficiencies. $NH_4-N$, which had been applied to the soil of high pH (5.8), was almost completely transformed into $NO_3-N$ by nitrification and, on this low acidic soil, the plants were all healthy regardless of Cl or $SO_4$ added together with $NH_4-N$. However, dry matter production was higher and maturity faster when $SO_4$ was used as anion than when Cl was used. 2. High moisture content in soil, to some extent, is necessary for a good development and growth of the tobacco plant. Phosphate uptake seemed to be limited at higher moisture stress. The dry matter yield of tops and roots of tobacco were in the order of pF 1.8 > 2.1 > 2.6 > 3.6, respectively. 3. Data of chemical analysis and dry matter yields of tops and roots showed that the tobacco plant followed the normal (C-A) concept. In the normal growth of plants, the carboxylate content of tops was quite comparable to the estimated (C-A) values. If $NH_4$ content of plants remains in quite high quantities, it must be analysed and taken into consideration for the (C-A) calculation. Al is not transported toward tops in toxic amounts due to its high immobility, it mostly stay in or on the roots, probably due to precipitation as a aolt. When Al is present in high quantities, it has to be considered into the (C-A) calculation.

This paper was conducted to evaluate the durability of cement mortars exposed to varying concentrations of sodium sulfate for up to 540 days. Three types of cement mortars, namely OPC, SRC and SGC, were exposed to four sodium sulfate solutions with concentrations of 4225, 8450, 16900 and 33800 ppm of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ions at ambient temperature. The sulfate deterioration was evaluated by measuring compressive strength and linear expansion of mortar specimens. Experimental results indicated that the maximum deterioration was noted in OPC mortar specimens in highly concentrated sulfate solution. In particular, the $C_3A$ content in cements plays a critical role in resisting expansion due to sodium sulfate attack. Additionally, the beneficial effect of GGBS was clearly observed showing a superior resistance against sodium sulfate attack, because of its lower permeability. Another important observation was that the parameters for the evaluation of deterioration degree are greatly dependent on the products formed by sulfate attack.

Objective : Traumatic brain injury including diffuse axonal injury has been shown to result in a decrease in brainfree magnesium concentration, an endogenous inhibitor of calcium entry into neuron, that is associated with the development of neurological motor deficits. The goal of this study is to establish the therapeutic window during which the therapy with $MgSO_4$ and/or hypothermia improve damaged neurons by TUNEL stain. Method : Moderate brain injury was induced in 64 adult Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 350 to 450gm each, by using a simple weight-drop device(Marmarou model). The animals were randomly assigned to four groups(sixteen rats each, a control group, a group treated with $MgSO_4$, a group treated with hypothermia, and a group treated with $MgSO_4$ and hypothermia) and the rats in each group were sacrificed and studied after 12 hrs, 24 hrs, 1 wk, and 2 wks after insult. In hypothermic group, these rats were subjected to hypothermia after injury, with their rectal temperatures maintained at $32^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. After 1-hour period of hypothermia, rewarming to normothermic level was accomplished over 30-minute period. In the groups treated $MgSO_4$, hypothermia and $MgSO_4$ were subsequently treated with $MgSO_4$($750{\mu}moles/kg$) infused intra-muscularly at 30 minutes after trauma. Result : In all treated groups, a significant reduction in TUNEL positive cells was found in comparison with the control group each time(p<0.001). Between treatment groups, No differnce was seen 12hrs, 24hrs, and 1wk. However, hypothermic group treated with or without $MgSO_4$ showed more significant reduction in apoptotic cells than group treated with $MgSO_4$ 2 weeks after trauma(p<0.05). However, hypothermic group treated with $MgSO_4$ showed no significant reduction in apoptotic cells compared with hypothermic group(p>0.05). Conclusion : These findings suggest that both hypothermia and $MgSO_4$ significantly improve pathological changes. Otherwise simultaneously $MgSO_4$ and hypothermia treatment groups is failed to provide additional neuroprotection. These results may be relevant to the design of future clinical trials of therapeutic hypothermia and $MgSO_4$ for traumatic brain injury.
