서울시 대기 중 총 가스상 수은의 농도 및 특성 분석 (Atmospheric Total Gaseous Mercury (TGM) Concentration and Characteristics in Seoul, Korea)

  • The objectives of this study were to measure ambient TGM concentrations in Seoul Korea, to determine the temporal variation of TGM, and to analyze the relationships among TGM, meteorological data and PM2.5 measured at the same time. Ambient TGM and PM2.5 concentrations were measured at the roof of the Graduate School of Public Health building in Seoul, Korea for the period of January to October 2004. Average TGM concentration was $3.43{\pm}1.17ng/m^3$. The average TGM was at a low concentration similar to those of background sites in other countries. The temporal variations and meteorological phenomena of TGM were not statistically significant. There was a positive link between TGM and PM2.5. It didn't indicate that reduction of $Hg^{2+}$ to Hg0 had occurred in liquid water contained in smog as in a previous study, but it shows that PM2.5 and TGM could be emitted from the same sources such as power plants and combustion engines. Also, the strong correlation between TGM and $SO_2$ concentrations indicated that the source of TGM was from fossil fuel combustions including coal combustion. Specifically, $SO_2\;and\;SO_4{^2-}$ concentrations correlated to TGM concentrations could be linked to TGM emitted from local and regional sources as well.

젖소 목장의 유두침지소독 방법에 따른 집합유와 시판 우유 내 요오드 농도 (Iodine Concentrations in Commercial Milks and Bulk Tank Milks of Dairy Farms Performed Different Teat Dipping Methods)

  • To determine the concentrations of commercial milks and the effect of different teat dipping methods on iodine concentrations of bulk tank milk, iodine concentration was analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The 59 bulk tank milk samples were collected. The 8 brands of commercial whole milk and 5 brands of commercial organic milk were purchased. The iodine concentrations of bulk tank milks of 59 dairy farms were in the range from 42.7 to $562.5{\mu}g/L$. The iodine levels of 4 different teat dipping methods with pre-dipping, post-dipping, pre & post-dipping, and non-dipping were $138.9{\pm}41.1$, $200.6{\pm}106.9$, $205.1{\pm}93.2$, and $110.9{\pm}70.4{\mu}g/L$, respectively. No significant difference (P > 0.05) was observed among 4 different teat dipping methods. Iodine concentrations of commercial whole milks were in the range from 149.1 to $210.4(178.8{\pm}22.0){\mu}g/L$, and iodine concentrations of commercial organic milks were in the range from 85.0 to $356.9(214.2{\pm}123.3){\mu}g/L$. Iodine concentrations of commercial milk in Korea are relatively low comparing with those of other countries.

다중규모 모델을 이용한 도시 지역 흐름과 초미세먼지(PM2.5) 분포 특성 연구: Part II - 도로 배출 영향 (A Numerical Study on the Characteristics of Flows and Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5) Distributions in an Urban Area Using a Multi-scale Model: Part II - Effects of Road Emission)

  • 본 연구에서는 국지예보시스템(LDAPS)과 전산유체역학(CFD) 모델을 접합하여, 부산 중구 광복동에 소재한 건물 밀집 지역의 상세 흐름과 PM2.5 농도 분포를 조사하였다. 도로 배출이 건물 밀집 지역의 PM2.5 농도에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해, PM2.5의 연간 시·군·구별, 배출 원소 별, 연료 별 도로이동오염원·비산먼지 배출량 자료와 월별·일별·시간 별 배출 계수를 이용하여 부산의 단위 면적당 시간별 PM2.5 배출량을 산정하였다. 본 연구에서는 건물 옥상과 도로변에서 수행된 특별 측정 자료를 이용하여 수치 모의 결과를 검증하고, 도로배출 유·무에 따른 PM2.5 농도 분포 특성을 분석하였다. 대상 기간(2020년 06월 22일) 동안 대상 지역에서는 바람이 약하게 나타났다. 새벽 시간에는 북동풍과 북서풍이 불고 주간에는 주로 남동풍이 불었다. 도로 배출을 고려하지 않은 경우에 LDAPS-CFD 접합 모델은 측정 지점(PKNU-AQ Sensor)의 PM2.5 농도를 과소모의 하였으나, 도로 배출을 고려하여 수치 모의한 PM2.5 농도는 도로 배출의 영향으로 PM2.5 농도가 증가하여 측정 결과와 유사하게 나타났다. 2020년 6월 22일 07시와 19시의 유입 풍향은 각각 북동풍과 남동풍이지만, 주변 지형과 건물에 의해 흐름이 변화되어, 두 시각 모두 측정 지점 주변에서는 주로 남풍 계열의 흐름이 나타났다. 07시와 19시의 유사한 흐름에 의해, 두 시각의 PM2.5 농도 분포도 매우 유사하게 나타났다. 건물 옥상 측정 지점에서 수치 모의된 PM2.5 농도는 도로 배출 영향을 크게 받지 않았으나, 도로변 에서는 도로 배출 영향을 상대적으로 크게 받았다. 도로 배출을 고려한 경우, 풍속이 약한 북쪽 도로와 긴 도로 협곡에 위치한 서쪽 도로에서 PM2.5 농도가 높고, 상대적으로 건물의 밀집도가 낮은 동쪽 도로에서는 PM2.5 농도가 낮게 나타났다. LDAPS-CFD 접합모델은 모든 도로에서 배출량이 동일하게 적용되기 때문에, 좁은 골목과 건물 밀도가 낮은 지역의 지형 특성이 반영되어 도로 별 PM2.5 농도 특성이 다양하게 나타났다.

산업단지내 미세먼지 및 토양입자의 개별입자 분석 (Aerosol Characterization Study for Individual Particle of PM10, PM2.5 Observed in Industrial Area)

  • Aerosol characterization study for individual particle in Busan metropolitan industrial complex was carried out from December 2010 to August 2011. SEM(scanning electron microscope)-EDX(energy dispersive x-ray) analysis was used for the analysis of 600 single particles during the sampling periods to identify non-metallic aerosol particle sources. Average $PM_{10}$ concentration was 65.5 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in summer, 104.1 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in winter during the sample periods. And Average $PM_{2.5}$ concentration was 24.5 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in summer, 64.5 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in winter individually. Particle density, enrichment factor, correlation analysis, principle component analysis were performed based on chemical composition data. Particle density distribution was measured to 2~4 $g/cm^3$, and the density of $PM_{2.5}$ was measured above 3 $g/cm^3$. In general, the elements Si, Ca, Fe and Al concentrations were higher in all samples of individual particles. The non-ferrous elements Zn, Br, Pb, Cu concentrations were higher in summer than in winter. The concentrations were not changed with the seasons because of non-ferrous industry emission pattern.

대구지역 겨울철과 봄철 미세먼지의 수용성 이온성분 특성 (Characteristics of Water Soluble Ions in Fine Particles during the Winter and Spring in Daegu)

  • Atmospheric $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$ were measured to investigate their levels and water-soluble ions(${SO_4}^{2-},\;{NO_3}^-,\;{NO_2}^-,\;Cl^-,\;{NH_4}^+,\;Na^+,\;Ca^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;and\;K^+$) in Daegu between February 17 and April 18, 2006. Four Asian dust episodes during the period were examined for the influence of Asian dust on the particulate properties. Daily $PM_{2.5}\;and\;PM_{2.5-10}$ concentrations ranged between $10.83{\sim}136.76{\mu}g/m^3$ with a mean of $38.43{\mu}g/m^3$ and $16.13{\sim}409.13{\mu}g/m^3$ with a mean of $79.98{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. For all measured ions the mean fractions of $PM_{2.5}\;and\;PM_{2.5-10}$ were 51.8% and 28.9% being lowered to 30.7% and 9.4%, respectively, during the dust episodes. Secondary ions (i.e., non-sea salt ${SO_4}^{2-},\;{NO_3}^-,\;and\;{NH_4}^+$) contributed 44.3% and 14.8% to $PM_{2.5}\;and\;PM_{2.5-10}$, respectively, with a decreased contribution during the episodes. The average equivalent ratio of ${NH_4}^+$ to the sum of ${SO_4}^{2-}\;and\;{NO_3}^-$ was 0.99 and 0.89 for $PM_{2.5}\;and\;PM_{2.5-10}$, respectively, indicating high source strength of $NH_3$ and its dominance in the neutralization of the acidic ions. Correlations and charge balance between ions suggest that neutralization of the acidic ions results in substantial depletions of carbonate both in $PM_{2.5}\;and\;PM_{2.5-10}$ and chloride only in $PM_{2.5}$.

수원지역 대기 중 $PM_{2.5}$$PM_{10}$의 환경거동에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Environmental Behaviors of Ambient $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$ in Suwon Area)

  • A total of 318 particulate sample sets consisting of both fine PM(FPM : dp$\leq$2.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and coarse PM(CPM : 2.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) was collected by a dichotomous sampler in Suwon area from December 1996 to November 1997. The concentration of seven inorganic elements such as pb. Cr, Cd, Cu, Zn Fe and Na were determined from each sample using an AAS. The purpose of the study was to extensively investigate environmental behaviors of particulate matters and to provide air quality management schemes applying various statistical approaches. The mean concentrations of PM10 Results of correlation analyses indicated the existence of strong correlations among inorganic elements PM10 FPM CPM and various meterological variables. Our study also examined the degree of uncertainties whether the particular elements can be assorted into the accumulation mode or the coarse mode in their size distribution. Furthermore the analysis of the pollution rose showed graphically the direction of potential sources of particulate matters. According to statistical analyses of our data quantitative differences appeared in the pollution patterns between weekdays and weekends.

배경지역 대기경계층 미세먼지의 화학조성 특성: 2012년 가을 측정 (Chemical Composition Characteristics of Fine Particulate Matter at Atmospheric Boundary Layer of Background Area in Fall, 2012)

  • 국내 배경지역인 제주도 한라산 1100 고지에서 2012년 가을철에 $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ 미세먼지를 채취하여 이온 및 원소 성분을 분석한 결과로부터 대기경계층(ABL) 미세먼지의 화학조성과 입자크기별 분포 특성을 조사하였다. $PM_{2.5}$ 미세입자($d_p$ < $2.5{\mu}m$)에서는 2차 오염물질인 nss-$SO{_4}^{2-}$, $NH_4{^+}$, $NO_3{^-}$ 농도가 각각 4.84, 1.98, $1.27{\mu}g/m^3$로 상대적으로 높고, 전체 질량의 58.2%를 차지하였다. 반면에 $PM_{10-2.5}$ 조대입자($2.5{\mu}m$ < $d_p$ < $10{\mu}m$)에서는 이들 세 성분의 농도가 각각 0.63, 0.21, $1.10{\mu}g/m^3$로 전체 질량의 22.8%를 차지하였다. 또 수용성 이온성분들 중 $NH_4{^+}$, nss-$SO{_4}^{2-}$, $K^+$, $CH_3COO^-$은 주로 미세입자에 분포하고, $NO_3{^-}$은 미세입자와 조대입자에 고르게 분포하나, $Na^+$, $Cl^-$, $Mg^{2+}$, nss-$Ca^{2+}$은 조대입자에 더 많이 분포하는 특징을 나타내었다.

2014년 2월 서울의 고농도 미세먼지 기간 중에 CMAQ-DDM을 이용한 국내외 기여도 분석 (Analysis of Domestic and Foreign Contributions using DDM in CMAQ during Particulate Matter Episode Period of February 2014 in Seoul)

  • This study was carried out to understand the regional contribution of Particulate Matter (PM) emissions from East Asia ($82^{\circ}{\sim}149^{\circ}E$, $18^{\circ}{\sim}53^{\circ}N$) to Seoul during high concentration period in February 2014. The Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) version 5.0.2 with Decoupled Direct Method (DDM) was used to analyze levels of contributions over Seoul. In order to validate model performance of the CMAQ, predicted PM and its chemical species concentrations were compared to observations in China and Seoul. Model predictions could depict the daily and hourly variations of observed PM. The calculated PM concentrations, however, had a tendency of underestimation. The discrepancies are due to uncertainties of meteorological data, emission inventories and CMAQ model itself. The high PM concentration in Seoul was induced by stationary anticyclone over the West Coast of Korea during 24 to 27 February. The DDM in CMAQ was used to analyze the contributions of emissions from East Asia on Seoul during this PM episode. $PM_{10}$ concentration in Seoul is contributed by 39.77%~53.19% from China industrial and urban region, 15.37%~37.10% from South Korea, and 9.03%~18.05% North Korea. These indicate that $PM_{10}$ concentrations in Seoul during the episode period are dominated by long-range transport from China region as well as domestic sources. It was also found that the largest contribution region in China were Shandong peninsula during the PM event period.

Effect of Urban Parks on Carbon and PM2.5 Reduction in Gangneung

  • Increasing carbon and PM2.5 concentrations have been emerging as serious environmental issues worldwide. The purpose of this study was to quantify carbon and PM2.5 reduction by urban parks in Gangneung, Korea. A total of 35 parks were sampled by applying a random sampling method to survey tree planting structures and the areal distribution of land cover types of urban parks. These survey data and the Green Evaluation Technique (GET) computer program were used to estimate carbon and PM2.5 reduction by trees. Mean tree density and cover in the study parks were 3.5±0.2 tree/100 m2 and 44.5±3.0%, respectively. Annual carbon uptake and PM2.5 deposition per unit area by trees averaged 2.8±0.2 t/ha/yr and 30.2±2.8 kg/ha/yr. Gangneung's urban parks annually offset the carbon emissions by 3.4% and the PM2.5 emissions by 3.5%. Thus, urban parks played a significant role in reducing atmospheric carbon and PM2.5 concentrations. Total annual carbon uptake and PM2.5 deposition of urban parks in Gangneung were about 1,338.2 t/yr and 14,433.2 kg/yr. This study is expected to contribute to raising awareness of the role and importance of urban parks regarding carbon and PM2.5 reduction.

타코나이트 광산 공정에서의 실시간 질량측정기기와 실시간 수농도의 환산에 의한 질량농도와의 연관성 (Relationships between a Calculated Mass Concentration and a Measured Concentration of PM2.5 and Respirable Particle Matter Sampling Direct-Reading Instruments in Taconite Mines)

  • Objectives: The purposes of this study are to investigate workers' exposures to respirable particles generated in taconite mines and to compare two metric methods for mass concentrations using direct-reading instruments. Methods: Air monitorings were conducted at six mines where subjects have been exposed primarily to particulate matters in crushing, concentrating, and pelletizing processes. Air samples were collected during 4 hours of the entire work shift for similarly exposure groups(SEGs) of nine jobs(N=37). Following instruments were employed to evaluate the workplace: a nanoparticle aerosol monitor(particle size range; 10-1000 nm, unit: ${\mu}m^2/cc$, Model 9000, TSI Inc.); DustTrak air monitors($PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, unit: $mg/m^3$, Model 8520, TSI Inc.); a condensation particle counter(size range; 20-1000 nm, unit: #/cc, P-Trak 8525, TSI Inc.); and an optical particle counter(particle number by size range $0.3-25{\mu}m$, unit: #/cc, Aerotrak 9306, TSI Inc.). Results: The highest airborne concentration among SEGs was for furnace operator followed by pelletizing maintenance workers in number of particle and surface area, but not in mass concentrations. The geometric means of $PM_{2.5}$ by the DustTrak and the Ptrak/Aerotrak were $0.04{\mu}m$(GSD 2.52) and $0.07{\mu}m$(GSD 2.60), respectively. Also, the geometric means of RPM by the DustTrak and the Ptrak/Aerotrak were $0.16{\mu}m$(GSD 2.24) and $0.32{\mu}m$(GSD 3.24), respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient for DustTrak $PM_{2.5}$ and Ptrak/Aerotrak $PM_{2.5}$ was 0.56, and that of DustTrak RPM and Ptrak/Aerotrak RPM was 0.65, indicating a moderate positive association between the two sampling methods. Surface area and number concentration were highly correlated($R^2$ = 0.80), while $PM_{2.5}$ and RPM were also statistically correlated each other($R^2$ = 0.79). Conclusions: The results suggest that it is possible to measure airborne particulates by mass concentrations or particle number concentrations using real-time instruments instead of using the DustTrak Aerosol monitor that monitor mass concentrations only.
