  • This paper presents characterizations on the independence of the exponential and Pareto distributions by record values. Let ${X_{n},\;n {\ge1}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed(i.i.d) random variables with a continuous cumulative distribution function(cdf) F(x) and probability density function(pdf) f(x). $Let{\;}Y_{n} = max{X_1, X_2, \ldots, X_n}$ for n \ge 1. We say $X_{j}$ is an upper record value of ${X_{n},{\;}n\ge 1}, if Y_{j} > Y_{j-1}, j > 1$. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times {u(n)}, n \ge 1, where u(n) = $min{j|j > u(n-1), X_{j} > X_{u(n-1)}, n \ge 2}$ and u(l) = 1. Then F(x) = $1 - e^{-\frac{x}{a}}$, x > 0, ${\sigma} > 0$ if and only if $\frac {X_u(_n)}{X_u(_{n+1})} and X_u(_{n+1}), n \ge 1$, are independent. Also F(x) = $1 - x^{-\theta}, x > 1, {\theta} > 0$ if and only if $\frac {X_u(_{n+1})}{X_u(_n)}{\;}and{\;} X_{u(n)},{\;} n {\ge} 1$, are independent.

  • 본 논문에서는 하이퍼큐브보다 망비용이 개선된 HFN(n,n)과 2n-hypercube 사이의 임베딩을 분석한다. 2n-hypercube를 HFN(n,n)에 연장율 3에 임베딩 가능함을 보이고, HFN(n,n)을 2n-hypercube에 임베딩하는 비용이 O(n)임을 보인다.

In this paper, we investigate the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability problem for a cubic function $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ satisfies $$r^3f(\frac{\Sigma_{j=1}^{n-1}x_j+2x_n}{r})+r^3f(\frac{\Sigma_{j=1}^{n-1}x_j-2x_n}{r})+8\sum_{j=1}^{n-1}f(x_j)=2f{\sum_{j=1}^{n-1}}x_j)+4{\sum_{j=1}^{n-1}}(f(x_j+x_n)+f(x_j-x_n))$$ for all $x_1,{\cdots},x_n{\in}X$.

Interface Reactions and Diffusion of Si3N4/Ti and Si3N4/TiAl Alloys (Si3N4/Ti와 Si3N4/TiAl합금의 계면반응 및 확산 거동)

  • $Si_3N_4$ is a ceramic material attracting attention in many fields because of its excellent abrasion resistance. In addition, Ti and TiAl alloys are metals used in a variety of high temperature environments, and have attracted much attention because of their high strength and high melting points. Therefore, study of the interface reaction between $Si_3N_4/Ti$ and $Si_3N_4/TiAl$ can be a useful practice to identify phase selection and diffusion control. In this study, $Si_3N_4/Ti_5Si_3+TiN/TiN/Ti$ diffusing pairs were formed in the $Si_3N_4/Ti$ interfacial reaction and $Si_3N_4/TiN(Al)/Ti_3Al/TiAl$ diffusion pathway was identified in the $Si_3N_4/TiAl$ interfacial reaction. The diffusion layers of the interface reactions were identified and, to investigate the kinetics of the diffusion layer, the integrated diffusion coefficients were estimated.

A Deterministic Resource Discovery Algorithm in Distributed Networks (분산 망에서 자원발견을 위한 결정 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a deterministic algorithm to solve the resource discovery problem, that is, some subset of machines to learn the existence of each other in a large distributed network. Harchol et al. proposed a randomized algorithm solving this problem within O($log^2\;n$) rounds with high probability, which requires O($nlog^2\;n$) connection communication complexity and O($n^2log^2\;n$) pointer communication complexity, where n is the number of machines in the network. His solution is based on randomization method and it is difficult to determine convergence time. We propose an efficient algorithm which improve performance and the non-deterministic characteristics. Our algorithm requires O(log n) rounds which shows O(mlog n) connection communication complexity and O($n^2log\;n$) pointer communication complexity, where m is the number of links in the network.

Universality of the Quasi-linear Relation Between the Order Parameter and the Normalized Birefringence of Aligned Uniaxially Anisotropic Molecules (정렬된 단축이방성 분자들의 질서변수와 상대 복굴절간 준선형 관계식의 보편성)

  • The universality of the quasi-linear relation between the order parameter S and the normalized birefringence ${\Delta}n_{rel}$, $S=(1+a){\Delta}n_{rel}-a{\Delta}n^2_{rel}$ is confirmed. It is verified that the refractive index of liquid crystals distributed with regular polyhedral symmetry is isotropic and it is given as $\frac{1}{n^2_{av}}=\frac{1}{3}\(\frac{1}{n^2_e}+\frac{2}{n^2_o}\){\cdot}S$ and ${\Delta}n_{rel}$ of angular weighted liquid crystals that are initially distributed with regular polyhedral symmetry, are numerically calculated. Also ${\Delta}n_{rel}$ and S of liquid crystals that are conically distributed, keeping the rotational symmetry about z-axis are calculated as the apex angle of the cone is varied. Based on these calculated results, it is confirmed that the quasi-linear relation between S and ${\Delta}n_{rel}$ is universal, independent of the details of the distribution function.

Degradation of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons via a Light-Emitting Diode Derived Photocatalyst

  • In this study, the applicability of visible light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) to the photocatalytic degradation of indoor-level trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) over N-doped $TiO_2$ (N-$TiO_2$) was examined under a range of operational conditions. The N-$TiO_2$ photocatalyst was calcined at $650^{\circ}C$ (labeled N-650) showed the lowest degradation efficiencies for TCE and PCE, while the N-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts calcined at $350^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C$, and $550^{\circ}C$ (labeled as N-350, N-450, and N-550, respectively) exhibited similar or slightly different degradation efficiencies to those of TCE and PCE. These results were supported by the X-ray diffraction patterns of N-350, N-450, N-550, and N-650. The respective average degradation efficiencies for TCE and PCE were 96% and 77% for the 8-W lamp/N-$TiO_2$ system, 32% and 20% for the violet LED/N-$TiO_2$ system, and ~0% and 4% for the blue LED/N-$TiO_2$ system. However, the normalized photocatalytic degradation efficiencies for TCE and PCE for the violet LED-irradiated N-$TiO_2$ system were higher than those from the 8-W fluorescent daylight lamp-irradiated N-$TiO_2$ system. Although the difference was not substantial, the degradation efficiencies exhibited a decreasing trend with increasing input concentrations. The degradation efficiencies for TCE and PCE decreased with increasing air flow rates. In general, the degradation efficiencies for both target compounds decreased as relative humidity increased. Consequently, it was indicated that violet LEDs can be utilized as energy-efficient light sources for the photocatalytic degradation of TCE and PCE, if operational conditions of N-$TiO_2$ photocatalytic system are optimized.

  • In this paper, we will analyze embedding between Folded Hypercube and HFH. We will show Folded Hypercube $FQ_{2n}$ can be embedded into HFH($C_n,C_n$) with dilation 4, expansion $\frac{(C_n)^2}{2^{2n}}$ and HFH($C_d,C_d$) can be embedded into $FQ_{4d-2}$ with dilation O(d).

The Effects of the cis and trans Configurations of Ligands on the Calculated Dipole Moments for $[M(II)O_3N_3]$ and $[Ni(II)O_2N_4]$ Type Complexes ($[M(II)O_3N_3]$$[Ni(II)O_2N_4]$ 형태착물의 쌍극자 모멘트에 대한 리간드의 cis 및 trans 구조의 영향)

  • The effects of cis and trans configurations of ligands for $[M(II)O_3N_3]$ and $[Ni(II) O_2N_4]$ type complexes [M(II) = Co(III), Ni(II) and Cu(II)] on the calculated dipole moments have been investigated, adpoting the eigenvectors of EHT calculation. The calculated dipole moments for cis complexes are higher than those of trans complexes. The calculated dipole moments for the octahedral trans $[Co(III)O_3N_3]$ type complex fall in the range of experimental values. However the calculated dipole moments for cis $[Ni(II) O_2N_4]$ type complexes fall in the range of the experimental values. These results predicts the trans structure for $[Co(III)O_3N_3]$ and $[Ni(II) O_2N_4]$ type complexes. Those structures are in agreement with the experimental one (Three bidentate (O-N) ligands in $[M(II)O_3N_3]$ type complexes coordinate to the metal ion and two tridentate (O-N-N) ligands in [Ni(II)O2N4] type complexes coordinate to Ni(II) ion).
