  • The layered organic-inorganic hybrid compounds($C_6H_5CH_2NH_3)_2CuCl_4$ and ($NH_3C_6/H_4C_2H_4_6/H_4NH_3)CuCl_4$ have been directly synthesized. From the X-ray diffraction data and the organic guest size, the orientation of the intercalated organic amine was determined. The inorganic sheets consist of $CuCl_4^{2-}$layers of comer-sharing octahedra copper chloride. The protonated organic amine was intercalated into the $CuCl_4^{2-}$layers with bilayer structure for ($C_6H_5CH_2NH_3)_2CuCl_4$ and monolayer structure for ($NH_3C_6/H_4C_2H_4_6/H_4NH_3)CuCl_4$.

  • The chlorination of reagent PbS and natural ore galena with $NH_4Cl$ was investigated to find a new extraction metallurgical process of lead. The proper conditions for the chlorination of galena were that reaction temperature ; $425^{\circ}C$, $NH_4Cl$ weight ratio to galena ; 4.0 and reaction time ; 2hrs. Under these conditions, PbS was successfully chlorinated to $PbCl_2$ and the conversion was 90%. And also $NH_4Cl$ was effectively decomposed and was separated $NH_3$ and HCl. HCl was a chlorinating agent and 90% of $NH_3$ was recovered through this chlorination reaction.

Removing High Concentration Nitrogen by Electrolysis (전기분해에 의한 고농도 질소 제거의 특성)

  • Laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate characteristics for removing ammonia-nitrogens by electrolysis methods. A stainless steel plate is used as the cathode and either $IrO_2{\backslash}Ti$ plate serves as the anode. Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of the operating conditions, such as the current density, retention time, electrode gap, $Cl^-/NH_4{^+}-N$ on the $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal efficiency. Possible optimum range for these operating variables are experimentally determined. The $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal efficiencies between plate type anode and net type anode were about same effect, but electrolytic power using net type anode is low than plate type anode. The $Cl^-/NH_4{^+}-N$ ratio was about $20.0kgCl^-/kgNH_4{^+}-N$ when $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal obtained 73 %, $Cl^-/NH_4{^+}-N$ ratio needs $27.6kgCl^-/kgNH_4{^+}-N$ so as to $NH_4{^+}-N$ completely remove. The removal efficiency of $NH_4{^+}-N$ increase with current density, retention time and $Cl^-/NH_4{^+}-N$ ratio, but decreased with increasing electrode gap. The relationship of operating conditions and $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal efficiencies are $$NH_4{^+}-N_{re}(%)=14.5364(Current\;density)^{0.7093}{\times}(HRT)^{1.0060}{\times}(Gap)^{-0.9926}{\times}(Cl^-/NH_4{^+}-N)^{1.0024}$$ With adding COD or/and alkalinity, relationships are $$NH_4{^+}-N_{re}(%)=9.8408(Current\;density)^{0.6232}{\times}(HRT)^{1.0534}$$ There existed a competition between the removals for $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $COD_{Cr}$ during electrolysis, the removal of $NH_4{^+}-N$ was shown to be dominant. $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal was high as addition of glucose and alkalinity.

Water Reuse of Sewage Discharge Water Using Fertilizer Drawn Forward Osmosis - Evaluating the Performance of Draw Solution - (비료 유도용액의 정삼투를 이용한 하수처리수의 재이용 - 유도용액의 성능 평가 -)

  • This study is to evaluate the performance of draw solutions in the water reuse of sewage discharge water using fertilizer drawn forward osmosis. Feed water used in all experiments was the effluent from secondary sedimentation tank in activated sludge process. Considering osmotic pressure, solubility, and pH, $NH_4H_2PO_4$, KCl, $KNO_3$, $NH_4Cl$, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$, $NH_4NO_3$, $NH_4HCO_3$, and $KHCO_3$ were screened from a comprehensive lists of fertilizer. Their performances were evaluated in terms of water permeate flux and reverse solute flux. KCl showed the highest average water flux followed by $NH_4Cl$, $NH_4NO_3$, $KNO_3$, $KHCO_3$, $NH_4HCO_3$, $NH_4H_2PO_4$, and $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$. Using KCl as draw solution, the average water permeate flux was 13.49 LMH. There was no big difference in osmotic pressure between the effluent from secondary sedimentation tank and deionized water. $NH_4H_2PO_4$ showed the lowest reverse solute flux followed by $NH_4Cl$, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$, $KNO_3$, $NH_4HCO_3$, and $NH_4NO_3$. Using $NH_4H_2PO_4$ as draw solution, the reverse solute flux was $4.96{\times}10^{-3}mmol/m^2{\cdot}sec$.

  • We have manufactured CdS and Cd(Cu)S thin films by chemical bath deposition(CBD) process, and examined the effects of $NH_4Cl$ and TEA. The addition of $NH_4Cl$ remarkably enhanced the film thickness of CdS, however, TEA slightly decreased the film thickness. The thickness of CdS film prepared from the aqueous solution of 0.003 M $CdSO_4$ 0.00008 M $CuSO_4$, 1.3M NH3, 0.03 M $SC(NH_2)_2$ and 0.0009 M $NH_4Cl$ was 210 nm and resistivity of that was $1.2{\times}10^3{\Omega}cm$.

  • We examined eluting behaviors for cationic complexes with the eluting cations. Retention volumes of hydrophilic complexes when eluted by the high concentration of aqueous KCl, NaCl and $NH_4Cl solutions, have been increased in the order NH_4^+ > Na^+ > K^+$, but in the low concentration, retention volumes of hydrophilic complexes bave been increased in the order $Na^+ > NH4^+ > K^+$. On the order hand, retention volumes of hydrophobic complexes when eluted by aqueous KCl, NaCl and $NH_4Cl solutions, have been increased in the order NH_4^+ > Na^+ > K^+$ in the whole concentration range. And we examined eluting behaviors for cationic complexes with the eluting anions. Hydrophilic complexes were associated more strongly with chloride ion among halide ions. However, hydrophobic complexes were associated more strongly with iodide ion. Sulfate ion, a highly hydrated anion, was associated more strongly with hydrophilic complexes than with hydrophobic complexes.

Effect of By-product (NH4Cl) on the Improvement of the Red Color Tone of Tantalum Nitride (Ta3N5) (탄탈륨 질화물(Ta3N5)의 적색도 향상에 미치는 NH4Cl의 영향)

  • The Tantalum nitride has attracted wide at attention as issues related to the toxicity of Cd-related materials. But in the titration process of Ta$Cl_5$ solution with $NH_4$OH, $NH_4$Cl, as a by product, was remained in the prepared Tantalum precursor. The tantalum precursor with $NH_4$Cl was nitrided by ammonolysis. The red color tone of $Ta_3N_5$ was reduced by the residual $NH_4$Cl reduce. Therefore, amorphous Tantalum precursor was prepared by filtering process with as hydrous ethanol to remove the $NH_4$Cl. In the case of using Tantalum precursor without $NH_4$Cl, we successfully synthesized the Tantalum nitride with good red color. The value of red color tone was improved from $a^*$=36.8 to $a^*$=53.0. The synthesized powder was characterized by XRD, SEM, the Nitrogen / Oxygen Determinator, TG-DTA, and the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ colorimeter.

Preparation of α-Si3N4 Powder in Reaction System Containing Molten Salt by SHS - Part 1. Synthesis of Powder (용융염계에서 자전연소합성법에 의한 α-Si3N4분말의 제조 - Part 1.분말의 합성)

  • Si, NH$_4$Cl, NaN$_3$, NaCl, $N_2$ were used as raw materials for preparation of $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$ powder. NH$_4$Cl and NaN$_3$ were used as additives, and NaCl was used as a diluent. Initial $N_2$ gas pressure in the SHS reactor was 60 atm. In preparation of $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$, the reactivity and the properties of the products were examined with the various kinds of additives and the content of diluent. At first, the optimum reaction system for the preparation of $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$ is examined and then the optimum composition was examined in the optimum reaction system. The optimum reaction system was Si-$N_2$-additive(NH$_4$Cl+NaN$_3$)-diluent(NaCl) and the optimum composition was 38 wt%Si+50 wt%(NH$_4$Cl+NaN$_3$)+12 wt%NaCl. The maximum fraction of $\alpha$-phase of Si$_3$N$_4$ produced in this condition was 96.5 wt% and the shape of the $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$ produced in this condition was an irregular fiber with a length of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a diameter of 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

Effect of NaCl on Nitrogen Content of Barley Seedlings

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of NaCl stress on nitrogen, ${NH_4}^+$, and ${NO_3}^-$ content of 4 barley cultivar seedlings that were cultured for 10 and 30 days with different NaCl levels (0, 50, 100, and 150 mM) contain-ing 1/4 Hoagland solutions. The sodium ion content in the shoot of barley seedlings sharply increased with an increase of NaCl concentration. After 30 days of NaCl treatment, the sodium content of the shoot at 150 mM NaCl was 27 times higher than in non-saline conditions. The sodium content in the root linearly increased with increasing NaCl concentration. Nitrogen content in the shoot linearly increased with increasing NaCl concentration, but nitrogen content in the root declined above the point where the $Na^+$ content was 3.0 mM/g $Na^+$ in the barley seedling. ${NO_3}^-$ content also decreased with increasing NaCl concentration. ${NH_4}^+$ content in the shoot decreased with NaCl condition, but its content in the root increased with NaCl condition. A positive correlation between ${NO_3}^-$ and ${NH_4}^+$ content was found in the shoot, but their relationship was negative in the root.

  • The preparation of AlN powder by SHS in the system of $Al-AlN-NH_4Cl$ was investigated in this study. In the preparation of AlN powder, the effect of gas pressure and the composition such as Al, AlF, and additive in mixture on the reactivity were investigated. At 60 atm of the initial inert gas pressure in reactor, the optimum composition for the preparation of pure AlN was 35 wt%Al+5 wt% $NH_4Cl+60wt%$AlN. The AlN powder synthesized in this condition was a single phase AlN with a whisker morphology.
