Eco-friendly acrylic resin/clay nanocomposites containing pristine montmorillonite (PM) or modified clays (30B and 25A) were prepared from acrylic and styrenic monomers using non-aqueous dispersion (NAD) polymerization. Effect of nanoclays on physical properties of polymerization product and resulting nanocomposites was investigated. In view of NAD particle stability, addition of nanoclay at the beginning of polymerization is proved to be good. Results of gel fraction, acid value and viscosity of the NAD product showed that nanocomposites containing clay 25A showed better physical properties than the ones with other clays. GPC results exhibit the increase in molecular weight and decrease in polydispersity index for the 25A nanocomposite. Increase in layer distance confirmed from XRD analysis showed good dispersion of 25A in the nanocomposite. Thermal and dynamic mechanical analysis showed that highest glass transition temperature and storage modulus for 25A nanocomposites. These results indicate that 25A nanoclay gives the best properties in the process of non-aqueous dispersion polymerization of acrylic resin/nanoclay nanocomposites.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of herbicide paraquat (1,1-dimethyl-4,4-bipyridilium dichloride) on the electron transport system of the cell. When actively growing cells of bacteria were exposed to the 1.0 mM paraquat, more than $50\%$ of the cells were killed at 0 hour. But specific activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were not changed at 0 hour of paraquat treatment. Oxido-reductions of NAD (H) by the suspension of bacterial membtane, rat mithochondria and NAD-dependent dehydrogenase were accelerated by paraquat treatment.

Optimum synthesis conditions were investigated for the non-aqueous dispersion (NAD) polymerization of environmentally-friendly acrylic resin. The optimum amount of stabilizer was observed to be 20 wt% to prevent flocculation of the synthesized polymer particles. The optimum ratio of aliphatic solvents to aromatic solvents turned out to be 80 to 20 in order to obtain a stabilized NAD resins. The viscosity of NAD resins was affected not only by the reaction time but also by the amount of initiator and the impeller rpm. Also, the particle size and the size distribution were influenced by the amount of stabilizers and initiators. Since the stability of NAD resin was devastated by the increase in particle size when all the monomers were fed at the beginning of polymerization, the monomers need to be put into the reactor step by step throughout the entire polymerization process.
The role of vascular NAD(P)H oxidase in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)-induced vasospasm in the basilar artery was examined in a rat model. Arterial vasospasm characterized by increased wall thickness and decreased lumen size was observed at 5 to 7 days after $2^{nd}$ injection of blood into cisterna magna, and these changes were significantly ameliorated by pretreatment of diphenyleneiodonium $(DPI,\;25\;{\mu}l\;of\;100\;{\mu}M),$ an inhibitor of NAD(P)H oxidase. To determine the time course of changes in the vascular NAD(P)H oxidase activity, cerebral vasculature was isolated at different time intervals from 12 hrs to 14 days after injection of autologous blood. At 24 hrs after the second injection of blood, the NAD(P)H oxidase activity was markedly increased with an enhanced membrane translocation of p47phox, but by 48 hours both the enzyme activity and p47phox translocation regained normal values, and were remained unchanged up to 14 days after SAH. However, no significant changes in the expression of p22phox mRNA was observed throughout the experiments. These findings suggest that the activation of NAD(P)H oxidase by which assembly of the oxidase components enhanced and subsequent production of superoxide in the early stages of SAH might contribute to the delayed cerebral vasospasm in SAH rats.
When we consolidate the iron artifacts, only we used VM&P Naphtha as solvent of paraloid NAD10. After consolidating the iron artifacts using paraloid NAD10, artifacts were too glossy to exhibit and see. We choose the solvent YK-VMP as solvent of paraloid NAD10 for complementing this defect and examined characterizations of paraloid NAD10 films in each solvent. As a result of evaluation by several surface analysis such as optical microscope, measuring film thickness, adhesive strength, gloss of surface, contact angle, yellowing test and EIS, it is possible to use YK-VMP instead of VM&P Naphtha as solvent of paraloid NAD10, because YK-VMP lowered surface gloss and did not change the effect of consolidation.
NAD4 as a gene encoding NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 in the micodhondrion from maize has been cloned using RT-PCR and sequenced for examining RNA edited sites. Analysis of mt cDNA sequences showed the typical RNA editing patterns and unusual base changes as well;RNA editing from cDNA sequences occured base change from c to U in most cases, however transitions from t to g and G to A were also observed. Even though those editings appared to be occurred randomly, RNA edited sites showed mostly in exon 1 and exon 4 regions, when compared with NAD4 cDNA from wheat, locations of edited sites did not consistent with each other suggesting that the phenomenon of RNA editing occured randomly not site-specific manner.
Oxidoreductases are effective biocatalysts, but their practical use is limited by the need for large quantities of NAD(P)H. In this study, a whole-cell biocatalyst for NAD(P)H cofactor regeneration was developed using the economical substrate glycerol. This cofactor regeneration system employs permeabilized Escherichia coli cells in which the glpD and gldA genes were deleted and the gpsA gene, which encodes $NAD(P)^+-dependent$ glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, was overexpressed. These manipulations were applied to block a side reaction (i.e., the conversion of glycerol to dihydroxyacetone) and to switch the glpD-encoding enzyme reaction to a gpsA-encoding enzyme reaction that generates both NADH and NADPH. We demonstrated the performance of the cofactor regeneration system using a lactate dehydrogenase reaction as a coupling reaction model. The developed biocatalyst involves an economical substrate, bifunctional regeneration of NAD(P)H, and simple reaction conditions as well as a stable environment for enzymes, and is thus applicable to a variety of oxidoreductase reactions requiring NAD(P)H regeneration.
The charge-transfer complexing properties of 1-methyl nicotinamide (MNA), an acceptor, and adenine, a donor, were investigated in water and SDS micellar solutions in relation to the intramolecular interaction in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide ($NAD^+$). The spectral and thermodynamic parameters of MNA-indole and methyl viologen-adenine complex formations were determined, and the data were utilized to evaluate the charge-transfer abilities of MNA and adenine. The electron affinity of nicotinamide was estimated to be 0.28 eV from charge-transfer energy $of{\sim}300$ nm for MNA-indole. The large enhancement of MNA-indole complexation in SDS solutions by entropy effect was attributed to hydrophobic nature of indole. The complex between adenine and methyl viologen showed an absorption band peaked near 360 nm. The ionization potential of adenine was evaluated to be 8.28 eV from this. The much smaller enhancement of charge-transfer interaction involving adenine than that of indole in SDS solutions was attributed to weaker hydrophobic nature of the donor. The charge-transfer energy of 4.41 eV (280 nm) was estimated for nicotinamide-adenine complex. The spectral behaviors of $NAD^+$ were accounted to the presence of intramolecular interaction in $NAD^+$, which is only slightly enhanced in SDS solutions. The replacement of nicotinamide-adenine interaction in $NAD^+$ by intermolecular nicotinamide-indole interaction in enzyme bound $NAD^+$, and guiding role of adenine moiety in $NAD^+$ were discussed.
NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase (EC 1. 6. 99. 2) was purified form S. cerevisiae. The enzyme readily reduced 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol, a quinonoid redox dye, as well as substituted benzo- and naphthoquinones, and could accept electrons from either NADH or NADPH. The purified NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase turned out to be capable of reducing nitrosoarenes as well as a variety of quinones. A chemical-trapping technique using 4-chloro-1-naphthol was used to show that the N,N-dimethyl-p-benzoquinonediiminium cation was produced in the reduction of 4-nitroso-N,N-dimethylaniline catalyzed by NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase.
The NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase (EC 1. 6. 99. 2) was purified from S. cerevisiae. The native molecular weight of the enzyme is approximately 111 kDa and is composed of five identical subunits with molecular weights of 22 kDa each. The optimum pH of the enzyme is pH 6.0 with 1,4-benzoquinone as a substrate. The apparent $k_m$ for 1,4-benzoquinone and 1,4- naphthoquinone are 1.3 mM and $14.3\;{\mu}M$, respectively. Its activity is greatly inhibited by $Cu^{2+}$ and $Hg^{2+}$ ions, nitrofurantoin, dicumarol, and Cibacron blue 3GA. The purified NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase was found capable of reducing aromatic nitroso compounds as well as a variety of quinones, and can utilize either NADH or NADPH as a source of reducing equivalents. The nitroso reductase activity of the purified NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase is strongly inhibited by dicumarol.
