$({Li}_{0.5}0{La}_{0.5}){TiO}_3$ (LLTO) solid electrolyte was grown on LiCo{O}_2 (LCO) cathode films deposited on $Pt/Ti{O}-2/Si{O}_2/Si$ substrate using pulsed laser deposition for all-solid-state lithium microbattery. LLTO solid electrolyte exhibits an amorphous phase at various deposition temperatures. LLTO films deposited at 10$0^{\circ}C$ showed a clear interrace without any chemical reaction with LCO, and showed an initial discharge capacity of 50 $\mu$Ah/cm$^2$-$\mu$m and capacity retention of 90 % after 100 cycles with Li anode in 1mol$ LiCl{O}_4$ in propylene carbonate (PC). The increase of capacity retention in LLTO/LCO structure than LCO itself was attributed to the structural stability of LCO cathode films by the stacked LLTO. The cells of LLTO/LCO with LLTO grown at $100^{\circ}C$ showed a good cyclic property of 63.6 % after 300 cycles. An amorphous LLTO solid electrolyte is possible for application to solid electrolyte for all-solid-state lithium microbattery.
The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li secondary battery. We investigated the effects of lithium salts, plasticizer addition, temperature dependence of conductivity and electrochemical stability window of polyethylene oxide(PEO) electrolytes. PEO electrolyte completed with LiCIO$\_$4/ shows the better conductivity than the others. PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte, when EO/Li$\^$+/ ratio is 8, showed adequate conductivity around room temperature. By adding propylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate to PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte, its conductivity was higher than that of PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ without those. Also PEO$\_$8/LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte remains stable up to 4.5V vs. Li/Li.
As the size of market for electric vehicles and energy storage systems grows, the demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is increasing. Currently, commercial LIBs are fabricated with liquid electrolytes, which have some safety issues such as low chemical stability, which can cause ignition of fire. As a substitute for liquid electrolytes, solid electrolytes are now being extensively studied. However, solid electrolytes have disadvantages of low ionic conductivity and high resistance at interface between electrode and electrolyte. In this study, Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO), one of the best ion conducting materials among oxide based solid electrolytes, is fabricated through RF-sputtering and various electrochemical properties are analyzed. Moreover, the electrochemical properties of LLZO are found to significantly improve with co-sputtered Li2O. An all-solid thin film battery is fabricated by introducing a thin film solid electrolyte and an Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) cathode; resulting electrochemical properties are also analyzed. The LLZO/Li2O (60W) sample shows a very good performance in ionic conductivity of 7.3×10-8 S/cm, with improvement in c-rate and stable cycle performance.

Solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells were fabricated using a polymer matrix in electrolyte in the purpose of the improvement of the durability in the dye-sensitized solar cell. In these dye-sensitized solar cells, the polymer electrolyte consisting of $I_2$, LiI, ionic liquid, ethylene carbonate/propylene carbonate and polymer matrix was casted onto $TiO_2$ electrode impregnated Ruthenium complex dye as a photosensitizer. Photovoltaic properties of solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells using polymer matrix (PMMA, PEG, or PAN) were investigated. Comparing photovoltaic effects of cells using hole conducting polymers (BE or 6P) instead of polymer matrix, we investigated the availability of the solid-state polymer electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells.

In the present work, to increase the chemical stability of the lithium-ion-conducting ceramic electrolyte ($Li_{1+x+y}Al_xTi_{2-x}Si_yP_{3-y}O_{12}$, LATP) in the strong alkaline solution, the surface of LATP was modified by the nitridation process. The surface and structural properties of nitride LATP solid electrolyte were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy and ac-impedance spectroscopy, which were correlated to the chemical stability and electrochemical performance of LATP. The nitrided LATP immersed in the alkaline solution for 30 days exhibits the enhanced chemical stability than the pristine LATP. Moreover, a rechargeable hybrid Li-air battery constructed with the nitrided LATP solid electrolyte shows considerably reduced discharge-charge voltage gaps (enhanced the round-trip efficiency) in comparison to the cell constructed with pristine LATP, which indicate that the surface nitridation process can be the efficient way to improve the chemical stability of solid electrolyte in alkaline media.

A lithium ion conducting borosilicate glass was fabricated by a conventional melt quenching technique from a mixture of Li2CO3, B2O3 and SiO2 powders. The Li ion conductivity of the lithium borosilicate glasses was evaluated in terms of the SiO2/B2O3 ratio. In the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass, the glass forming region decreases with an increasing Li2O content. At the same Li2O, the crystallization tendency of the glass samples increases with the SiO2/B2O3 ratio, resulting in a reduced glass forming region in the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass. The electrical conductivity moderately depends on the SiO2/B2O3 ratio in the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass. The conductivity of the glasses slightly increases with the SiO2/B2O3 ratio. The observed phenomenon can be explained by the modification of the glass structure as a function of the SiO2 content.

Lithium silicate, a lithium-ion conducting ceramic, is coated on a layer-structured lithium nickel manganese oxide ($LiNi_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}O_2$). Residual lithium compounds ($Li_2CO_3$ and LiOH) on the surface of the cathode material and $SiO_2$ derived from tetraethylorthosilicate are used as lithium and silicon sources, respectively. Powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy analyses show that lithium silicate is coated uniformly on the cathode particles. Charge and discharge tests of the samples show that the coating can enhance the rate capability and cycle life performance. The improvements are attributed to the reduced interfacial resistance originating from suppression of solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) formation and dissolution of Ni and Mn due to the coating. An X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study of the cycled electrodes shows that nickel oxide and manganese oxide particles are formed on the surface of the electrode and that greater decomposition of the electrolyte occurs for the bare sample, which confirms the assumption that SEI formation and Ni and Mn dissolution can be reduced using the coating process.

We explore the crystalline structure and phase transition of lithium thiophosphate ($Li_7P_3S_{11}$) solid electrolyte using electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The glass-like $Li_7P_3S_{11}$ powder is prepared by the high-energy mechanical milling process. According to the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and selected area diffraction (SAD) analysis, the glass powder shows chemical homogeneity without noticeable contrast variation at any specific spot in the specimen and amorphous SAD ring patterns. Upon heating up to $260^{\circ}C$ the glass $Li_7P_3S_{11}$ powder becomes crystallized, clearly representing crystal plane diffraction contrast in the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy image. We further confirm that each diffraction spot precisely corresponds to the diffraction from a particular $Li_7P_3S_{11}$ crystallographic structure, which is also in good agreement with the previous X-ray diffraction results. We expect that the microscopic analysis with EDS and SAD patterns would permit a new approach to study in the atomic scale of other lithium ion conducting sulfides.
Al and Nb-doped Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) and W-doped LLZO lithium ion conducting electrolyte samples were prepared and their H2O stability was investigated. The LLZO samples were exposed to 50% humidified air for 48 h. After H2O exposure, a cubic to tetragonal transformation occurred and acquired SEM images exhibited the presence of reaction phases at the grain boundaries of Al and Nb-LLZO. As a result, the lithium ion conductivity significantly decreased after H2O exposure. On the contrary, W-LLZO showed good stability against H2O. Although the cubic to tetragonal transformation was also observed in H2O-exposed W-LLZO, the decrease in lithium ion conductivity was found to be modest. No morphological changes of the W-LLZO samples were confirmed in the H2O-exposed W-LLZO samples.
Na-β"-Al2O3 has been widely employed as a solid electrolyte for high-temperature sodium (Na) beta-alumina batteries (NBBs) thanks to its superb thermal stability and high ionic conductivity. Recently, a vapor phase conversion (VPC) method has been newly introduced to fabricate thin Na-β"-Al2O3 electrolytes by converting α-Al2O3 into β"-Al2O3 in α-Al2O3/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) composites under Na+ and O2- dual percolation environments. One of the main challenges that need to be figured out is lowered conductivity due to the large volume fraction of the non-Na+-conducting YSZ. In this study, the effect of lithia addition in the β"-Al2O3 phase on the grain size and ionic conductivity of Na-β"-Al2O3/YSZ solid electrolytes have been investigated in order to enhance the conductivity of the electrolyte. The amount of pre-added lithia (Li2O) precursor as a phase stabilizer was varied at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mol% against that of Al2O3. It turns out that ionic conductivity increases even with 1 mol% lithia addition and reaches 67 mS cm-1 at 350 ℃ of its maximum with 3 mol%, which is two times higher than that of the undoped composite.
