  • This paper deals with the design of a yaw rate controller based on gain-scheduled H$\infty$ optimal control, which is intended to maintain the lateral stability of a vehicle. Uncertain factors such as vehicle mass and cornering stiffness in the vehicle yaw rate dynamics naturally call for the robustness of the feedback controller and thus H$\infty$ optimization technique is applied to synthesize a controller with guaranteed robust stability and performance against the model uncertainty. In the implementation stage, the feed-forward yaw moment by driver's steer input is estimated by the disturbance observer in order to determine the accurate compensatory moment. Finally, HILS results indicate that the proposed yaw rate controller can satisfactorily improve the lateral stability of an automobile.

  • In this paper, we deal with a quadratic stabilization by $H^{\infty}$ output feedback controllers with adjustable parameters. The designed controller contains a contractive time-varying gain which can be used to adjust the responses of the resulting closed-loop system. The free parameter expressed as time-varying gain is chosen so that a Lyapunov function of the closed-loop system descends as fast as possible. A numerical example is given to show the validity of proposed method..

  • In this paper, we present robust reliable $H\infty$ controller design methods of continuous and discrete uncertain time delay systems through LMI(linear matrix inequality) approach, respectively. Also the existence conditions of state feedback control are proposed. Using some changes of varables and Schur complements, the obtained sufficient conditions are transformed into LMI form. We show the validity of the proposed method through numerical examples.

  • This paper deals with an $H_{\infty}$ output feedback controller design for singularly perturbed T-S fuzzy systems. It is shown that the $H_{\infty}$ norm of the singularly perturbed T-S fuzzy system is less than ${\gamma}$ for a sufficiently small ${\varepsilon}$>0 if the $H_{\infty}$ norms of both the slow and fast subsystem are less than ${\gamma}$. Using this fact, we develop a linear matrix inequality based design method which is independent of the singular perturbation parameter ${\varepsilon}$. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed design method.

  • The useful method for determining parameters of weighting functions used to design the $H_{\infty}$ current controller for attenuating the current ripple due to saliencies which SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) also incorporates is described. To analyze the effect, the current ripple due to the structural and the saturation saliencies, the SPMSM model with nonlinear inductance function depending on the two independent variables, rotor position and stator current is simulated. After analysis, parameters of the weighting functions for $H_{\infty}$ current controller is selected to satisfy the robust stability, robust performance and specific performance in time and frequency domain by using the PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm in the linear SPMSM model. Especially, the robust performance is proved that the selected weighting functions play a role in reducing the current ripple caused by the saliencies of SPMSM at the desired frequency range by the simple experiment.

  • This paper presents application results of the augmented matrix eigen-sensitivity theories to TCSC siting problem for damping the inter-area low frequency oscillation in the large KEPCO system. First and second-order eigen-sensitivities of the inter-area low frequency oscillation in the large KEPCO system. First and second-order eigen-sensitivities of the inter-area mode are computed fro changes in susceptance of the transmission lines. The lines having high sensitivity are chosen as the initial candidates for installing TCSC. Then for each of the chosen candidates, Bodeplot of the transfer function with line susceptance as the input and the bus voltage at one side of the line as the output is computed. Using the Bode plots, the lines having any zeros near the inter-area mode are screened out since design of TCSC controller is very difficult in such a case. The $H_{\infty}$ TCSC controller installed at any finally chosen candidate is found to be effective in damping the inter-area oscillation, and the proposed TCSC siting algorithm is proved to be valid.   • This paper presents a control of active suspension for quarter car model with two degree of freedom by using H$\infty$ method. Absolute velocity of car body is measured for feedback. The system parameter variations are treated with multiplicative uncertainty model. Simulation results show that the H$\infty$ control provides good trade-off between ride quality, suspension packaging and road holding constraints. The experiment with a front wheel suspension system was done to verify the simulation results.

  • This study is concerned with H$_{\infty}$ control theory of nonlinear systems. Recently H$_{\infty}$ control theory has been developed to nonlinear systems, and especially nonlinear H$_{\infty}$ control theory based on the Hamilton-Jacobi inequality has been proposed. This corresponds to linear H$_{\infty}$ control theory based on the Riccati equation. In this paper, we apply it to a semi-active dynamic vibration absorber for multi-degree-of-freedom structure, and we design its state feedback controller via the Riccati equation. In the simulation, we show that it is effective for a vibration control.rol.

  • A robust H$_{\infty}$ control design methodology and its application to a Space Station attitude and momentum control problem are presented. This new approach incorporates nonlinear multi-parameter variations in the state-space formulation of H$_{\infty}$ control theory. An application of this robust H$_{\infty}$ control synthesis technique to the Space Station control problem yields a remarkable result in stability robustness with respect to the moments-of-inertia variation of about 73% in one of the structured uncertainty directions. The performance and stability of this new robust H$_{\infty}$ controller for the Space Station are compared to those of other controllers designed using a standard linear-quadratic-regulator synthesis technique.que.
