Effects of conventional rolling(CR) and differential speed rolling(DSR) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu-Ni-Si alloy were investigated in detail. The copper alloy with thickness of 3 mm was rolled to 50 % reduction at ambient temperature without lubricant with a differential speed ratio of 2:1. The conventional rolling in which the rolling speed of upper and lower rolls is identical was performed under identical rolling conditions. The shear strain introduced by the CR showed positive values at positions of upper roll side and negative values at positions of lower roll side. However, it showed zero or positive values at all positions for the samples rolled by the DSR. The microstrucure and texture development of the as-rolled copper alloy did not show any significant difference between CR and DSR. The tensile strength of the DSR processed specimen was larger than that of the CR processed specimen. The effects of rolling methods on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-rolled copper alloy are discussed in terms of the shear strain.

In order to improve the adhesion properties of copper, MPS(3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane) organic film were employed. The plasma pretreatment in pure He or $He/O_{2}$ mixed gas environment greatly increased adhesion force. Adhesion force was measured by scratch test with nano indenter. Microstructures and surface roughness were observed with scanning electron microscope(SEM). The characteristics of MPS layer for pretreatment were studied with flourier transform infrared spectroscope(FT-IR) and contact angle tester. The heighest adhesion was achieved in the specimen pretreated with mixed plasma and NPS coating, which was 56mN. Other specimen showed lower value by $20{\%}$ to $30{\%}$. The roughness of substrate was not affected by the bonding strength of copper plating.
Simultaneous removal technology of particulate/NOx/SOx/HCl using CuO/3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters is an advanced air pollution process and provides significantly to reduce hazardous gases emitted from coal-fired power plant. This process uses a high-temperature catalytic filter for integrating SOx and HCl reduction through injection an alkali sorbent (such as hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate), NOx removal through ammonia injection and selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and particulate collection on the catalytic filter surface. The advantages of the process include : compact integration of the emission control technologies into a single component; easy handling of dry sorbent and by-product; and improved SCR catalytic life due to lowered SOx, HCl and particulate levels. CuO/3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters showed a possibility of simultaneous treatment from results which have ascertained high removal efficiency at various combined gases conditions, and in pilot plant test for 3 months, NO conversion was showed 90% over.

Cu/Fe/$Al_2O_3$ granules with various sizes have been prepared by a combination of sol-gel and oil drop method for the use in sulfur trioxide decomposition, a subcycle in thermochemical sulfur-iodine cycle to split water in the hydrogen and oxygen. The size of composite granules have been mainly changed by the flow-rate of the gel mixture before dropping in the synthesis. The structural properties of the samples were comparable with granule size. In the reaction, the catalytic activity was enhanced by decreasing size in the entire reaction temperature ranges.
Microstructure and characteristics of the SiCp/Al-4.5wt%Cu-1wt%Mg composites fabricated by the combination of the compocasting and the pressurized continuous casting process, which is one of the processes to decrease the limitations of the size, and shops of the products, are investigated. The main results are as follows: 1) the SiCp/Al alloy matrix composites can be made continuously 2) as the amount of SiCp addition increases; (1) the degree of directional solidification of matrix structure decreases, and that of SiCp dispersion improves, (2) wear resistance improves, and especially these composites show the excellent wear resistance under the high sliding speed and high final load condition, (3) wear mechanism of these composites is changed from adhesive wear into abrasive wear, and the tendency of that becomes outstanding with increasing sliding speed.
Al-based alloys have recently attracted considerable interest as structural materials and light weight materials due to their excellent physical and mechanical properties. For the investigation of the potential of Al-based alloys, a surface porous $Al_{88}Cu_6Si_6$ eutectic alloy has been fabricated through a chemical leaching process. The formation and microstructure of the surface porous $Al_{88}Cu_6Si_6$ eutectic alloy have been investigated using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The $Al_{88}Cu_6Si_6$ eutectic alloy is composed of an ${\alpha}$-Al dendrite phase and a single eutectic phase of $Al_2Cu$ and ${\alpha}$-Al. We intended to remove only the ${\alpha}$-Al phase and then the $Al_2Cu$ phase would form a porous structure on the surface with open pores. Both acidic and alkaline aqueous chemical solutions were used with various concentrations to modify the influence on the microstructure and the overall chemical reaction was carried out for 24 hr. A homogeneous open porous structure on the surface was revealed via selective chemical leaching with a $H_2SO_4$ solution. Only the ${\alpha}$-Al phase was successfully leached while the morphology of the $Al_2Cu$ phase was maintained. The pore size was in a range of $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$ and the dealloying depth was nearly $3{\mu}m$. However, under an alkaline NaOH, aqueous solution, an inhomogeneous porous structure on the surface was formed with a 5 wt% NaOH solution and the morphology of the $Al_2Cu$ phase was not preserved. In addition, the sample that was leached by using a 7 wt% NaOH solution crumbled. Al extracted from the Al2Cu phase as ${\alpha}$-Al phase was dealloyed, and increasing concentration of NaOH strongly influenced the morphology of the $Al_2Cu$ phase and sample statement.
The purpose of this investigation is to Dancheong documentary project of Tangible cultural in Jeollabukdo. The colored pigments of Nahanjeon Hall in Songkwangsa Temple analyzed and composition and repair period for each pigments were compared. The result are that blue color is Ultramarine blue($Na_6Al_6Si_6O_{24}S_4$), green color is Yangrok($Cu(C_2H_3O_2)_2{\cdot}3Cu(AsO_2)_3$), orange color is Jangdan($Pb_3O_4$), yellow color is Chrome yellow($PbCrO_4$). It is difficult to distinguishable from coloring period by analysis of pigments of Nahanjeon Hall.

The crystallographic and high frequency characteristics of $Fe_{73.9}Cu_{1.0}Nb_{3.5}Si_{14.0}B_{7.6}$ soft magnetic alloys were investigated under magnetic field annealing, The crystallization fraction of annealed samples with longitudinal magnetic fields is higher than that of samples without magnetic field. When the transverse magnetic field is applied, the crystallization fraction does not increases but decreases until $500^{circ}C$. It is found that for samples, the saturation induction are all same with 1.3 T. The coercive field of as-cast samples is 1.03 A/cm, but in annealed samples it decrease from 0.56 to 0.1A/cm with increasing annealing temperature from 400 to $550^{circ}C$. The squareness of annealed samples under transverse magnetic field has a small value than that of both without field and with longitudinal field annealing. It is noted that the magnetic field annealing with transverse direction to amorphous $Fe_{73.9}Cu_{1.0}Nb_{3.5}Si_{14.0}B_{7.6}$ profoundly influenced on the Mossbauer spectra in contrast to that with longitudinal direction and without magnetic field.

The effects of silicon content on the corrosion rates of Cu-7wt% Al alloys have been investigated by the use of electrochemical methods. The corrosion current densities of the alloys are decreased with the addition of Si up to 2wt%, and the slightly increased at 2.5%Si. This increased corrosion rates are attributed to the precipitation of more anodic gamma-2 phase. The X-ray diffraction tests reveal the dealuminumification of these alloys and mixtures of CuCl and Al2O3 formed on the surface of the specimens, which are considered to passivate the alloys at noble potentials.
To combine the mechanical advantages of ceramics with those of metals, one often uses both materials within one composite component. But, as known, they have different material properties and fracture behaviors. In this study, a four-point bending test is carried out on $Si_3N_4$ joined to ANSI 304L stainless steel with a Ti-Ag-Cu filler and a Cu interlayer at room temperature to evaluate their longitudinal strain behaviors. And, to detect localized strain, a couple of strain gages are pasted near the joint interfaces of the ceramic and metal sides. The normal strain rates are varied from $3.33{\times}10^5$ to $3.33{\times}10^{-1}s^{-1}$ Within this range, the experimental results showed that the four-point bending strength and the deflection of the interlayer increased with increasing the strain rate.
