Template Synthesis and Characterization of Four- and Five-Coordinate Copper(II) Complexes with Hexaaza Macrotricyclic Ligands 1,3,6,9,11,14-Hexaazatricyclo $[12.2.1.1^{6,9}]octadecane(L_1)$ and 1,3,6,10,12,15-Hexaazatricyclo $[13.3.1.1^{6,10}]eicosane(L_1)$

  • Cu(II) hexaazamacrotricyclic complexes $[Cu(L)](ClO_4)_2$ and $[(Cu(L)Cl]ClO_4$, where L = 1,3,6,9,11,14-hexaazatricyclo$[12.2.1.1^{6,9}]octadecane(L_1)$ or 1,3,6,10,12,15-hexaazatricyclo$[13.3.1.1^{6,10}]eicosane(L_2)$, have been prepared by the simple template condensation reactions of triamines, diethylenetriamine for $L_1$, and N-(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-propanediamine for $L_2$, with formaldehyde in the presence of $Cu(OAc)_2\;or\;CuCl_2$. The Cu(II) complexes of $L_1$ contain two 1,3-diazacyclopentane ring moieties and those of $L_2$ contain two 1,3-diazacyclohexane ring moieties that are fused to the 14-membered macrocyclic framework. Spectra indicate that complexes $[Cu(L)](ClO_4)_2\;and\;[Cu(L)Cl]ClO_4$ have square-planar and square-pyramidal chromophores, respectively. square-planar $[Cu(L)](ClO_4)_2$ are remarkably stable against ligand dissociation in acidic aqueous solutions. Square-pyramidal $[Cu(L)Cl]ClO_4$ complexes dissociate their axial Cl-ligands easily in aqueous solutions to form $[Cu(L)H_2O]^{2+}$ species. Infrared and UV/vis absorption spectra of the Cu(II) complexes reveal that Cu-N interactions and the ligand field strengths are significantly weaker in the complexes of $L_2$ than in the complexes of $L_1$.

Preparation and Characteristics of Calcium Lactate from Black Snail

  • Calcium lactate (CL) prepared from powdered black snail (PBS) or its ashed powder (ABS), was investigated for ideal manufacturing conditions to optimize color, solubility and sensory quality. Based on the amount of PBS and 100 mL lactic acid (LA), the yields of PBS-CL were 300% and 15 g in 10% LA and 260% and 20 g in 20% LA. Yields of ABS-CL based on the amount ABS and 100 mL LA were 400% and 60 g in 10% LA and 329% and 66 g in 20% LA. Both of the yields were decreased with an increase of the LA concentration on the basis of PBS and ABS amounts, but proportionally increased with the increment in the LA concentration on the basis of LA volume. Optimal preparation times of the dehydrated PBS-CL and ABS-CL were, respectively, 4 hr and 5 hr at 10$0^{\circ}C$, 3 hr and 4 hr at 12$0^{\circ}C$, and 1 hr and 2 hr at 15$0^{\circ}C$, which showed shorter time in preparing the dehydrated ABS-CL. PBS-CL and ABS-CL were confirmed to be Ca($CH_3$CHOH$CO_2$)$_2$ by the analysis results of IR and $^1$H-NMR. Calcium contents of the anhydrous PBS-CL and ABS-CL were individually 15.4% (w/w) and 17.3% (w/w) representing 84.2% and 94.5% or each theoretical value. Colors or PBS-CL and ABS-CL were light yellow and light-greenish white each. Solubilities of PBS- CL and ABS-CL in distilled water at pH 3~8 were 5.43 and 6.11 g/100 mL, respectively, which demonstrated higher mean solubilities rather than the 4.74 g/100 mL of standard CL. Solubilities of PBS-CL (3.14~5.03 g/100 mL) and ABS-CL (4.69~6.05 g/100 mL) against soup soy sauce, 3% brine, Soju (Korean distilled liquor), thick soy sauce, grape juice and orange juice were higher than those of standard CL (2.94~5.84 g/100 mL). ABS-CL was believed to have a wide use range due to its low sourness while different applications of PBS-CL in food are expected due to its mild astringent taste and strong savory taste despite its strong bitter taste as estimated by sensory evaluation.

The Effects of Reductants on the Behaviors of Fe Selective Chlorination using an Ilmenite Ore (일메나이트 광의 Fe 선택염화 거동에 미치는 환원제의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the behaviors of Fe selective chlorination in ilmenite ore by using PVC or $CO-Cl_2$ gas mixture as reducing agents under the condition of 1173 K, for 60 minutes were investigated. The weight loss ratio was 28% when PVC was applied as the reducing agent. The condensate formed at the outlet of reaction tube was identified as $FeCl_2$ by X-ray diffraction analysis. From these results, it was observed that iron in ilmenite ore reacted with HCl gas and Fe was selectively removed in the form $FeCl_2$. However, when $CO-Cl_2$ gas mixture was used as a reducing agent, the weight reduction ratio was 54%, and the condensate formed at the outlet of reaction tube after the experiment was estimated to be $FeCl_3$. It was observed that the ilmenite ore reacted with the $CO-Cl_2$ gas mixture and was simultaneously removed in the form of $FeCl_3$ and $TiCl_4$. However, the results of X-ray diffraction of ilmenite ore after the reaction showed that Fe was almost removed.

Effect of Temperature and NaCl Concentration on Germination of Italian Ryegrass (온도와 NaCl 농도가 이탈리안라이그래스의 발아에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to obtain the basic information on salinity tolerance in Italian Ryegrass. Seeds of 20 cultivars that contained diploid(9 cultivars) and tetraploid(l1 cultivars) types were exposed to eight levels of NaCl concentration ranging from 0 to 350 mM under three levels (15$^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$) of temperature. There were highly significant differences in germination percentage among the levels of NaCl concentration, levels of temperature and cultivars, respectively. Average germination percentage of cultivars in control(no NaCl was higher at 2$0^{\circ}C$(90.1%) than that of $25^{\circ}C$(87.8%) or 15$^{\circ}C$(87.5%). Average germination percentage of cultivars began to decrease over 200mM of NaCl concentration. The degree of decrease in germination was higher at $25^{\circ}C$ than that of 15$^{\circ}C$ or 2$0^{\circ}C$. At 2$0^{\circ}C$, the germination percentage and gemination speed were gradually decreased as NaCl concentration increased. The average germination day was lengthened by the increase of NaCl concentration and temperature. The germination percentage in diploid types were higher than that of tetraploid types but the average germination day in diploid types was shortened more than that of tetraploid types, regardless of temperature and NaCl concentration.

Influence of NaCl on Seed Germination of Cool-Season Turfgrass species (NaCl이 한지형잔디 종자발아에 미치는 영향)

  • The influence of increasing livel (0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0%) fo NaCl on the germination of red fescue (Festuca rubra) 'Sea Breeze', tall fesce(Festucaarundinacea) 'Pixie', creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra ssp. rubra) 'Cindy', annual rye-grass (Lolium multiflorum) 'Permer Ⅱ', perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) 'Pennant', fairway wheatgrass(Agropyron cristatum), creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) 'Penncross', and kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) 'Nuglade' was investigated. Red fescue 'Sea Breeze', tall fescue 'Pixie', and creeping red fescue 'Cindy' had greater than 90% seed germination at NaCl concentrations of 0.2% or lower, while showing similar seeding shoot and root lengths and TAA50 values as the control. Creeping red fescue 'Cindy'gave at 0.6% or higher NaCl. Perennial ryegrass 'Pennant' and annual ryegrass 'Permer Ⅱ' showed more than 95% seed germination when NaCl concentrations were 0.4% and 0.8%, respectively. Fairway wheatgrass, creeping bentgrass 'Penncross' and Kentucky bluegrass 'Nugade' had showing similar germination percent, shoot and root lengths and T50 values as the control at NaCl concentrations of 0.1% or lower. In general, germination percent and the lengthes of seedling roots and shoots of all species tested decreased as NaCl concentrations iscreased. The T50 values became greater as NaCl concentration increased. Seed fermination in red fescue 'Sea Breeze', tall fescue 'Pixie',perennial ryegrass 'Pennant', and annual ryegrass 'Permer Ⅱ' was compoetely inhibited at 2.0% NaCl. Creeping red fescue 'Cindy' and fairway wheatgrass gardly germinated at 1.6% MaCl. Creeping bentgrass 'Penncross' and Dentucky bluegrass 'Nuglade' showed a complete inhibition of germination at 1.2% and 0.6% NaCl, respectively.

Effect of NaCl Stress on the Growth, Antioxidant Materials, and Inorganic Ion Content in Head Lettuce Seedlings (양상추 유묘의 생육, 항산화물질 및 무기이온의 함량에 미치는 NaCl 스트레스의 영향)

  • In head lettuce seedlings, NaCl stress was treated with hydroponic culture containing 0, 50, or with 100 mM NaCl in the seedling grown up to two leaf stages. Our focus was on the effect of NaCl on fresh and dry weights, antioxidant materials, and inorganic ion level. Fresh and dry weights of head lettuce seedlings increased with the increase in salinity while the optimal growth occured at 50 mM NaCl. The chlorophyll a (Chl a), total Chl and Chl a/b ratio increased 6 days after treatment with 100 mM NaCI. However, the Chl b content decreased. Total glutathione increased only in the root of head lettuce seedlings, whereas significant increase of total arcorbate content was observed in both shoot and root after the treatment with 100 mM NaCl. In addition, the NaCl treatment resulted in the decreased level of spermidine content, and a increased spermine content. Furthermore, $Na^+$ content in shoot and root increased significantly while $K^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, and $Mg^{2+}$ content decreased. The alteration of inorganic ion level after treatment with NaCl caused the reduction of $K^+/Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}/Na^+$, and $Mg^{2+}/Na^+$ ratio with the increase of NaCl concentration. Taken together, these findings indicate that the treatment of NaCl causes the induction of oxidative stress, and results in the alteration of metabolic mechanism in head lettuce seedlings.

Polymerization of Ethylene over $Cp_2ZrCl_2$ Catalyst Supported on Montmorillonite (Montmorillonite에 담지된 $Cp_2ZrCl_2$ 촉매를 이용한 에틸렌 중합특성 연구)

  • Heterogeneous metallocene catalysts supported on montmorillonite (MMT), [$Cp_2ZrCl_2$/MMT, $Cp_2ZrCl_2$/MAO/MMT, and $Cp_2ZrCl_2$ + MAO/MMT], were prepared with three different methods of immobilization and tested for ethylene polymerization. The heterogeneous catalysts immobilized on organo clay (30B-MMT) showed the higher metal loading and polymerization activity than those immobilized on natural clay $Na^+-MMT$. These results suggest that the hydroxyl groups of organo clay interlayers react with the MAO and catalyst through the chemical bond. The metallocene catalyst supported directly on MMT showed lower activity for ethylene polymerization compared to the homogeneous systems, while MMT/MAO/$Cp_2ZrCl_2$, catalysts treated with MAO before impregnation, showed a higher activity. The polymers obtained from MMT-supported catalysts have higher melting point, molecular weight and molecular weight distributions than those of homogeneous catalysts. The polymer particles with increasing significant size. Ethylene polymerization over 30B-MMT/MAO/$Cp_2ZrCl_2$ catalyst was also performed varying the process variables to optimize the process conditions.

Complex Formation of 1,15-Diaza-3,4:12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane with Some Transition Metal Ions (전이금속이온과 1,15-Diaza-3,4:12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane과의 착물형성)

  • The stability constants of 1,15-diaza-3,4:12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane (NenOdien H$_4$, L) with transition metal ions such as $Co^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;and\;Zn^{2+}$ have been determined by potentiometry in 95% methanol solution at 25$^{\circ}$C. The complex formation of the NenOdien $_4$ with the transition metal ions depends on the basicity of the donor atoms. The order of complex stability was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) > Zn(II). The geometries of the complexes in solid state were discussed by visible-near infrared and infrared spectrophotometry, elemental analysis and electro-conductivity. The results suggest that the geometries of the solid complexes are octahedral for $[CoL_2(OH_2)Cl]Cl{\cdot}2H_2O$, $[NiL_2(OH_2)Cl]Cl{\cdot}2H_2O$, and $[ZnLCl_2]{\cdot}\frac{1}{2}H_2O$ and square pyramidal for [CuLCl]Cl, respectively.

Effect of Inorganic Salt Additives on Formation of Phase-Inversion Polyethersulfone Ultrafiltration Membrane (상변환 Polyethersulfone 한외여과막 제조시 무기염 첨가 효과)

  • The effect of addition of inorganic salts in polyethersulfone (PES) polymer solution on the membrane formation and ultrafiltartion performance was studied through the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of casting solution. To control the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of casting solution, various inorganic salts $[CaC1_2, LiCl, LiClO_4, ZnC1_2 $and Mg(ClO_4)_2]$ were added in the PES/NMP solution. Variation of membrane morphology and performance of the resulting membranes with change of the salt type and content added in tasting solution were discussed using viscosity, coagulation value, light transmittance measurement, overall membrane porosity, ultrafiltration experiment and cross-sectional SEM image. For all kind of inorganic salts, according as increase of the salt content in casting solution, viscosity is increased, coagulation value becomes lower, top layer thickness below the skin surface is increased, bovine serum albumin(BSA) rejection decreased and pure water flux is increased except $CaC1_2$ and LiCl. In case of $CaC1_2$ and LiCl, it is found that when the salt content is increased, the formation of macrovoids is suppressed and the precipitation rate becomes slow while instantaneous demixing of precipitation type is maintained. However, in case of $LiClO_4$ and $Mg(ClO_4)_2,$ it is found that precipitation rate becomes faster.

  • To investigate the recorded efficacy in Oriental medical references and effects in clinics, experimental studies were undertaken to estimate 'Palmiwhan' to the diuretic effect in normal rats, rabbits and rats with $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure and hypotensive effects on the nephrogenous hypertension in rabbits with $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure. The results of this study were summarized as follows; Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly recognized in normal rats and rabbits. Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly shown in rats with 2mg/kg $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure. Although plasma electrolyte and creatinine levels were little affected, plasma urea nitrogen levels were significantly elevated in normal rats and 2mg/kg $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure of rats. Although the blood pressure was not affected in normal rabbits and cats, hypotensive actions due to the diuretic effect were recognized in rabbits $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure.
