Cobalt(Ⅲ) Complexes of N,N'-Bis(2(S)-aminopropyl)-1(R),2(R)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane

  • A novel optically active tetraamine ligand possessing four asymmetric centers, N,N'-bis(2(S)-aminopropyl)-1(R),2(R)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (SRRS-apchxn) and its cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes, [Co(SRRS-apchxn)X2]n+ (X=Cl-, H2O, X2=CO32-) have been synthesized. This ligand has coordinated stereospecifically to the cobalt(Ⅲ) ion to give only the Λ-uns-cis-(SS) isomer. A trans dichloro complex has been obtained via the stereospecific isomerization of Λ-uns-cis-(SS)-[Co(SRRS-apchxn)Cl2]+ to trans-(SS)-[Co(SRRS-apchxn) Cl2]+ in CH3OH-HCl medium. Ligand and complexes have been characterized by electronic absorption, 1H NMR, CD spectra, and also by elemental analysis. It is of interest that this is one of the few CoⅢ(N4)X2 type complex preparations, which produces such an uns-cis isomer with stereospecificity.

A study on permeation of $CO_2-N_2-O_2$ mixed gases through a NaY zeolite membrane under permeate evacuation mode (진공모드에서 NaY 제올라이트 막의 $CO_2-N_2-O_2$ 혼합기체의 투과거동 연구)

  • In the present study, $CO_2$ permeation through a hydrophilic NaY zeolite membrane was studied under permeate evacuation mode for $CO_2$ single gas, $CO_2-N_2$ and $CO_2-O_2$ binary mixtures, and $CO_2-N_2-O_2$ ternary mixture. It was reconfirmed that the $CO_2$ permeation was governed by surface diffusion and the $CO_2$ selectivity was induced from blocking effect of adsorbed $CO_2$ molecules. The $CO_2$ permeance measured in permeate evacuation mode was much lower than that done in He sweeping mode, but was comparable to that obtained under feed pressurization mode. The NaY zeolite membrane showed a considerable $CO_2$ separation for $14%CO_2-80%N_2-6%O_2$ mixture : $CO_2$ permeance was about $1{\times}10^{-7}mol/m^2secPa$ and $CO_2$ selectivity was more than 10. Therefore, it was concluded that NaY zeolite membrane was one of promising membranes for post-combustion CCS process.

  • ZSM-5 zeolite composite membranes have been synthesized from a silica sol solution containing TPABr as an organic template by the dip-coating and the pressurized-coating hydrothermal treatment techniques. The CO2 separation efficiency of synthesized composite membranes was also investigated. The permeation mechanism of CO2 through ZSM-5 membranses was the surface diffusion, and that of N2, O2, and He gases was Knudsen diffusion or activated diffusion depending on the synthetic method of membranes and the measurement temperature. The CO2/N2 separation factor of the membrane prepared by the dip-coating hydrothermal treatment was 2.5 at about 12$0^{\circ}C$, while the ZSM-5 composite membrane synthesized by the pressurized-coating hydrothermal treatment technique showed the CO2/N2 separation factor of 9.0 at room temperature higher than that ever reported in the literature.

Gas Permeation Characteristics by Pebax/ZIF-9 Mixed Matrix Membrane (Pebax/ZIF-9 혼합막에 의한 기체투과 특성)

  • In this study, zeolitic imidazolate framework-9 (ZIF-9) was synthesized and Pebax/ZIF-9 mixed membranes were prepared by varying the content in poly(ether-b-amide)-1657 (Pebax-1657), and then a single gas (N2, CO2) was permeated to investigate the gas permeation characteristics of the mixed membrane. As the ZIF-9 content incorporated into the pure Pebax membrane increased, the N2 permeability gradually decreased, and the CO2 permeability increased up to the Pebax/ZIF-9 3 wt% mixed membrane, and then decreased at the content thereafter. And among the mixed membranes, the Pebax/ZIF-9 3 wt% mixed membrane showed the highest selectivity of 69.3 by selectively accepting CO2 as the gate-opening phenomenon occurred for the polar gas, CO2. In addition, both the CO2 permeability and the CO2/N2 selectivity increased, resulting in the closest Robeson upper-bound.

  • This study has been performed to investigate the effect of $CO_2$ content on the growth characteristics of the compound layer, porous layer and corrosion characteristics of carbon steels after gaseous nitrocarburizing in $70%-NH_3-CO_2-N_2$ at $580^{\circ}C$ for 2.5 hrs. The results obtained from the experiment were the thickness of the compound and porous layers increased with increasing $CO_2$ contents. At the same fixed gas composition the thickness of the compound and porous layer increased with increasing carbon content of the specimens. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that compound layer was mainly consisted of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}(N,C)$ and ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Fe_4N$ as the increased with $CO_2$ contents in atmosphere, compound layer was chiefly consisted of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}(N,C)$ phase. With increasing $CO_2$ content and total flow rate in gaseous nitrocarburizing, the amount of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}(N,C)$ phase in the compound layer was increased. The current density of passivity decreased with increasing $CO_2$ content due to the development of porous layer at the out most surface of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}(N,C)$.

  • Sonochemical synthesis of fullerene oxides $[C_{70}O_n](n=1{\sim}2)$ by fullerene$[C_{70}]$ and metal hexacarbonyl complexes $M(CO)_6$(M=Cr, Mo, W) took place under air atmosphere. The reactivity of fullerene$[C_{70}]$ and several metal hexacarbonyl complexes $M(CO)_6$(M=Cr, Mo, W) under same ultrasonic condition increased in the order of $Mo(CO)_6$ > $W(CO)_6$ > $Cr(CO)_6$. The MALDI-TOF-MS, UV-visible spectra, and HPLC analysis confirmed that the products of sonochemical reaction were $[C_{70}O_n](n=1{\sim}2)$.

  • Sodium type faujasite(FAU) zeolite membranes with a thickness of 5${\mu}m$ and a Si/Al molar ratio of 1.5 were prepared by the secondary growth process. The $CO_2/N_2$ separation in the vacuum mode was investigated at $30^{\circ}C$ for an equimolar $CO_2-N_2$ mixed gas before and after embedding 13X zeolite beads in the permeate side. The embedded 13X zeolite beads improved both $CO_2$ permeance and $CO_2/N_2$ separation factor, simultaneously. The phenomenon was explained by an increment in the $CO_2$ desorption rate at the FAU zeolite/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ phase boundary due to an enhanced $CO_2$ escaping through the pore channels of the $\alpha-Al_2O_3$ support layer. In the present paper, it will be emphasized that a hybridization of a membrane with an adsorbent can provide a key to break through the trade-off between permeance and separation factor, generally shown in a membrane separation.

  • The adsorption and desorption behaviors of NO and $N_2O$ over two mixed oxide catalysts, AlCoPd (1/1/0.05) and AlCoFe (1/1/2), have been investigated for the lean $NO_x$ trap applications. The catalysts showed good adsorption capabilities for NO and $N_2O$ without needing oxidation step. The adsorption decreased a lot when they are co-adsorbed with oxygen. While NO kept high adsorbability and selectivity with respect to oxygen, those of $N_2O$ decreased sharply. From the TPD results, NO and $N_2O$ are considered to decompose into nitrogen and oxygen in the higher temperature range and the oxygen seems to be strongly attached to the catalysts even at high temperature.

  • The dipole moments for octahedral [Co(III)-$O_3N_3$], tetrahedral [M(II)-$O_2N_2$] and square planar [M(II)-$O_2N_2$] types complexes are calculated by the expansion method for spherical harmonics using the valence basis sets for the central metal ion and the single basis set orbital ($2p_z$) for ligands. The calculated dipole moments for these complexes are in agreement with the experimental values.

  • Effects of various reaction factors such as pressure, time, and temperature on clathrate formation were investigated for hydroquinone with $CO_2$ and $N_2$. Experimental and spectroscopic results indicate that $CO_2$ plays more preferential role in forming hydroquinone clathrates than $N_2$. These results can be used in application of selective $CO_2$ separation from flue gases with the formation of clathrate compounds.
